The simp guys are being fake nice to sleep with a woman, not all the time but definitely often. I also think that there are many simps who will put down men although you may not have run into them yet. It's called dirty macking. If the simps are like the ones I just mentioned I don't think there's any difference.
I know a lot of woman will side with the simps though because oftentimes it is beneficial for women. Simps buy them things and give them attention and I think many times women will not want to see the fact that the simps are doing all this to sleep with them. I do think that there are plenty of women who recognize this though, and they either refuse to have simps worship them or they'll use him because they don't believe he's worthy of their respect. Vice-versa also applies exactly the same way where men will often side with pick me girls because it is beneficial for them. Pick me girls won't usually be buying guys things because of societal norms but instead they'll sleep with them and/or worship the man in different ways.
Of course there are simps who are more like the ones you described as well as pick me girls who are like that. For some odd reason, men are more likely to put down the simps and women are more likely to put down the pick me girls but I really don't see any difference. There are good and bad in both pick me girls and simps. But I think with the feminist movement, the simps are larger in number than pick me girls.

The problem with Simps isn't that they're too nice, it's that they're one or two rejections from going incel. There's a significant overlap between the two.

I don’t think simps are anywhere close to being like incels. You’d have to be pretty damn creepy and weird to be an incel. Plus simps are getting laid, and they don’t shit talk women any change they get
I suppose we'd have to have a common definition of what we're talking about then. As I understand it, Simps are pretty much never getting laid. That's why they stalk the DMs of Internet celebrities and women already in relationships. They're not aggressive or mean or bad, but they're definitely severely deficient in social skills and often in basic self-esteem. Nobody goes from 0-incel in a day. It takes a long time for a person to feel completely defeated in the dating game, and it's usually a result of exactly the kinds of social practices that I mention.
Having said that, I can also see your point about sexist men writing off basic decency as "simpy". That definitely happens. But I don't think it's accurate to say that there doesn't exist a social archetype of a low confidence guy that can't stand up for himself.
Simps can and will throw other men under the bus if it means getting closer to pussy. Caring about and standing up for women is never a bad thing, but to throw away your own morals, betray your friends, and putting on a fake feminist white knight facade just to get brownie points with women is where it gets eye brow raising.
But of coarse women are more likely to defend simps because it benefits them in the end. Payed drinks, validation, attention, and sometimes their rent even.
Simps are guys that will do all kind of nice things, being all fake with the sole intention of getting the puss.
Pick me's (a term I only learned from this question; jesus it's tough keeping up with all these new gen terms)... the way I perceive it anyways, are guys that won't just do whatever to get with a girl and have their strict guidelines for stuff they will and won't do. They don't chase hard after girls and aren't the type to be lead on. They're more confident that simps for sure.

A simp is someone who acts nice to women who don't reciprocrate to them at all. A pick me from what I've seen is any woman another woman doesn't agree with, usually a feminist, or a woman who simply just agrees with a mans opinion
