Should censorship on social media really be all that necessary?

I oppose censorship. Only things that incite physical harm should be regulated. That would include violence, sexual predation, pedophilia, child/human trafficking, and some things like that that are already illegal.
I am opposed to letting SJWs, politically correct cry babies, ideologues, and self-serving moneyed interests dictate what people can say and what information is allowed.
People can decide what to read and what sites they visit. And, as you said, they have the right to block or unfriend people they don't like. I'm in favor of letting individuals be their own censors.

I'm strongly against it. I'm a big proponent of freedom of speech and not just in terms of constitutional rights, but as a value to uphold everywhere. Besides that, I like to see where people stand. It's like if there are a bunch of Neo-Nazis inciting hate speech, I want to be able to see them out in the open instead of going underground so that I know to watch out for them.

I think there's a historical tendency with heavy censorship to not only filter out the most harmful ideas that challenge the status quo but also some of the best ones.

Social media manipulation is at its peak, people say all kind of fucked up shits, even give death threats and get away with it. Censorship is not really necessary but a better moderation is cuz social media is ruining lives.

I remember an incident where there was this teenager Kode, who fucked up, maybe even committed some crime which he agreed that he did, well he committed suicide cuz thousands of people were trying to find his address, trynna hurt him and his families. People took law in their hands and literal adults celebrated that murder of a child and got away with it like nothing happened.

@iboobs what if it does not stop there, what if they're people from your workplace, your school, your neighborhood, or even family/relatives, what if the online BS starts online but then becomes an actual thing happening to you in real life, in person... would you want that kind of stupidity unleashed towards you? what if they were too vicious and too many, against you.

And then, what if some of them are not only stupid, but actually dangerous, and very capable of harming you, what if they were to target you and show up at your house, or just going to have a pizza slice at some place... they show up with a rifle with whatever ideas they got from social medias, and well... point is, for you personally, how much of all this stupidity is enough, for you to say "okay enough" this has to stop.

Just because stuff is not happening to us personally, it doesn't mean we should just be okay with this happening to others, there has to be sensible limits, and also regulations, especially when it comes to... stupidity.

I agree, but that assumes that the social media sites in question are independent of pressure or dictates from all politicians, which definitely doesn't seem to be the case.

When people promote violence, or promote lies that lead, or can lead, to an insurrection and deaths, it's appropriate to censor them. Same goes for when people promote bogus health claims, that lead to injury and death.
