Do you guys think there is too much censorship in content like words and phrases not nsfw content that should be censored but a regular everyday kind of thing. Like beeping words on videos and music. Podcast audio and more censorship on graphical work that doesn't involve sexual theme or SMUT content.
7.2K opinions shared on Other topic. There is a time and place for censorship. The problem is most platforms get it so wrong. This website is a poster child for that.

1.4K opinions shared on Other topic. Yes. I'm for censorship of content that breaks laws like incitement to crime and violence. However criticism shouldn't be censored. On the other hand we have so many protected and privileged groups like "chosen ones", "PDFs", "PoC", "Diverse Religious Nutters"... who can't handle any slightest criticism but social media protects them to arouse low level emotions in majorities. The question is why?

5 moCertain things need to be censored. Things like white supremacy homophobia transphobia Holocaust denial and disinformation and conspiracy theories about vaccines 911 climate change etc.

The Holocaust is real, transphobia and homophobia are not

Vaccines are actually bad for you because they put mercury in them. Climate change isn't real because the methane from a cow fart has a half life of 5 years. In 10 years the fart no longer exists

@Awesomesauce2005 Where did you hear this bullshit from? Alex Jones or Don the Con. Vaccines don't kill people. Vaccines save lives you imbecile. Climate change is very real. It's serious and it's up to us to stop it and we need to do everything to stop it before it kills the planet.

AskIn the world of gaming and creativity, expressing ourselves is vital. 🎮โจ While some level of censorship is necessary to maintain respectful online spaces, it's important to strike a balance. Over-censoring can stifle creativity and honest expression, especially when it comes to everyday language and harmless art. It's about finding that sweet spot where content can be shared freely while still being respectful. 🤝 Let's embrace diverse voices and viewpoints, just like we do with different gaming genres.

5 moYes and I'm sick of it. Nudity should be censored on social media like Facebook, IG, TikTok, and anywhere that it's not specifically meant for nudity, like OF.
Death threats should be censored. Stuff like saying "I'll find you and kill you and all your loved ones." Stuff on that level should not be tolerated and I'm okay with arresting people that say that kind of stuff online.
But when it comes to opinions on politics, LGBT crap, immigration, masculinity, femininity, and gender norms, the environment, shaming promiscuity, opinions or facts about races... none of which are potentially fatal... they should be allowed. People should be allowed freedom of speech like Elon Musk has allowed on X.
I remember the good ole days on social media when you could call others idiots in the comments or say stuff like "Fuck you" without getting censored. Now, it's bad... even stuff that isn't mentioned with ill intent could get censored and get your account flagged.
The more technology progresses, the less freedom we have over what we say.10 Reply 779 opinions shared on Other topic. Depends on whether social media is considered a platform or a publisher. A platform is merely the vehicle by which information is shared- the content is the responsibility of the users, rather than the platform, as the platform does not curate content. A publisher, on the other hand, curates content and therefore, is responsible for the content. Within this framework, responsibility determines the authority to sensor.
That being said, we do live in a culture with certain social norms. In the US, that's where section 230 of the Communications Decency Act comes into play, giving platforms some censorship power. However, this requires robust, self-policing social norms that have been collapsing lately across the western world. I'm not sure there's a direct, objective answer to your question, but rather, it calls out a cultural failing.10 Reply
5 moI definitely agree there is too much censorship in social media, and it's not even about the NSFW content. Honestly, if I even got my hands on those who enforced it, I would [censored] them [censored], [censored] by [censored].
In all seriousness, though, there is far too much censorship out there, and it even went as bad as to get political. You could literally wish death on anyone, as long as that person was on the right. Criticizing anyone on the left, though, even if done in a very subtle, nuanced way, would amount to "hate crime". It got better recently, at least in the USA, but there is still a lot to do in this regard. I wish there was a way to bring freedom of speech to the entirety of the EU, for example. At this point, the EU is most likely worse than China, maybe even worse than North Korea.
10 Reply1.7K opinions shared on Other topic. No. Content is content, and like anything using another's platform is subject to ToC and rules.
Too many dimwits scream "censorship" at everything. When in fact very little is censored, and more is actually removed for violating platform rules, more than state laws.
It's platforms, more than government, who decide. Sure government can have a say in some content, but it's usually only things of national security, or law. They couldn't give two shits about what mad conspiracy many have spinning.

5 moWAAAAAAAAYYYYYY the fuck too much!!! Have you SEEN the new list of dirty words?
Kill, dead, murder, suicide, rape, penis, vagina, retarded, gay, sex, and a slew of other words that, until a year or two ago, were just commonly used words that anybody could say, even on religious channels!!12 Reply- 5 mo

5 moI think No, but the censorship that exists is grossly inconsistent. For example, YouTube demonitizes the video if the word "shit" is used (it's one of those words George Carlin identified as words you can't say on TV) yet allows a video of train hitting and killing a person.

5 moYes. I live in a country where the founding fathers wanted you to have a right to say anything whatsoever, short of rebellion and insurrection. yet I can't post my own beliefs on the internet, which aren't even different from what Americans held 50 years ago by the way, without getting deleted and banned.
