Am I alone in thinking that political parties should be abolished and we should all become independent?

I’m an independent and me personally I feel like everyone should be too because all this fighting is extremely ignorant each side blames the other for everything each side makes up conspiracy theories about the other and all the in fighting is getting out of hand and it’s quite ridiculous

You're not alone, but it's not a realistic proposal. If you're serious about correcting the problem with the two party system, you'd need to:

1) Amend certain legal documents, which will be vehemently opposed by organized coalitions

2) Decide on a solution, which will likely not have full support even among the initial protestors

The country is way too divided for there to be any support for anything like this at all. If you DON'T amend the voting process and you run as an independent, you won't get anywhere. Nobody ever has.

Even if you did implement something like ranked choice voting or some other alternative, the philosophical and moral differences underpinning political belief are similar enough on a basic level that you'd find yourself in the company of one of few large groups anyways. We like to flatter ourselves by thinking that our politics are indefinable, but I can assure you that I'd be able to put you on the orthodox political scale with enough information.

Yes. As that's called "anarchism" and has never worked as an ideal or system on it's own.

Sort of like in the book "lord of the flies". If no one is in charge, then things turn to shit rather quickly regardless of players and intent.

Nope, I agree with this, though I don't believe for a second that it would solve all the issues. In fact, it would definitely create new/different problems.

It will not ever happen though. It would require virtually every recognizable name in politics to strip themselves of significant amounts of power and influence.

To be honest, the only effective approach would be to remove 90% of the power and funding from the federal government. Then the problems of politics go away on their own, when the people who make their livings on it have to go find something else to do.

Sounds great to me, I was originally a Democrat back in the 90's but they've gone so far left that I can't be that anymore... I also briefly tried being a Republican and hell no.

That said, I'm probably closer to a constitutionalist, in following the law... so third party or whatever independent. Often thought political parties should be outlawed.

I’m a firm believer that not only should parties be abolished; but if parties are found to be starting the members need to be arrested under charges of conspiracy to subvert an election and tried for treason.

This has all gone too far and we need to put an end to it now.

You will always have political parties as long as people have the same interests.

But I would change the system the US has to where no one party is allowed to have more than 35% of the seats in Congress and that POTUS and VPOTUS is randomly selected by lottery of all eligible voters who meet the requirements in the US Constitution.

Fun fact, George Washington hated the idea of a multiple party system. He believed it was one of the things that was wrong with England. He believed if we adopted that kind of political system, it would eventually lead to the end of America.
