Much like I feel about the recently enacted "Juneteen" "holiday." Mostly benign indifference. It is a holiday - and a month - targeted at specific groups and my hunch is that you could not swing a dead cat in a crowded city and hit anyone who was not already an activist who would care one way or the other.
The analogy is to my Jewish relatives. They celebrate the Passover and Hanukkah and the like. If they invite me to such a celebration I attend. However, day to day, it is not a part of my life. I do not begrudge it to them and wish them the very best, but it is not in any sense meaningful to me.
Ditto Juneteen, albeit that the "holiday" is not about when the Emancipation Proclamation was issued, but when the slaves learned about it. It is kind of about reporting rumors accurately and one gets the sense that it is more about current sensibilities than it is about historical events.
Indeed, the African-American community now has two Federal holidays to its credit. The other being Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday - which was signed into law by President Reagan back in the 1980s. Unfortunately, Dr. King's "judged by the content of your character and not the color of your skin" theme is now hopelessly out of fashion among the activist community and therefore the need for Juneteen.
The last arrow in the quiver being the eventual abolition of Columbus Day. Italian-Americans, not having a strong politically correct activist community behind them, will be left to take the hindmost.
The point being that this is less about a historical event than about the current passion for moral exhibitionism and right thinking. It will come and go, as Martin Luther King Day now comes and goes, and will be used less to honor the past than to advance the agendas of the moment.
For my part, all Juneteen means is that I won't have to go out to get the mail that day. That's one less day to get bills. Good enough for government work - or not. As to Black History Month, it comes and it goes but it is not aimed at me, was not made for me and it passes with me only thinking - "Gee, I can't wait to get through February so it will begin warming up again."
Now Spring!! That is something I take seriously.

Black History Month is about recognizing a marginalized and oppressed group of people who continue to feel the legacy of formal systems of racism. The whole idea of BHM is to make sure that black people's plight is not forgotten so that we can eventually get to the point that you're talking about, namely, where all races are equal and we don't have to set aside time to talk about anyone in particular. (It doesn't logically make sense to say that the way to get there is to pretend we're already there.)
The way you solve racism is by talking about it, owning it, reversing the bad policies, setting up good ones, and things of this nature, and that's exactly the kind of positive action that BHM is designed to encourage.
I hate that for both pride and BHM that we are limited to just a month to make people feel good they got to slap a sticker on something and get free rep out it. In both cases this should be an all year thing where we teach about the heroes who stood tall to advance our rights in society. To celebrate accomplishments and contributions to the world.
This should not ever be a situation of "oh I guess it is February, time to roll out the same commercials covering the same people every year and build out customer relations for a month." It shouldn't be "hey let's add a rainbow to our merchandise and profit off pride month."

Growing up, I didn't think much of it. My schools would talk mainly about contributions to the nation's history, especially in regards to innovations and culture- Cool stuff that makes one proud to share a country together.
That changed significantly around 2007 where it basically turned into Civil Rights deprivation guilt month, and now it's borderline black supremacy month where news anchors scream at football teams with white quarterbacks for winning a game against teams with black quarterbacks, and every major business is practically tripping over themselves to make cringey commercials. Serious mistakes have been made.
Personally, I'm of the opinion that trying to attribute individual accomplishments, trends, and failures to the entirety of a race is pretty wildly stupid no matter who or what the subject is. Dedicating an entire month to a specific race which is of itself very multicultural while simultaneously and consciously ignoring others is divisive, at the very least. The US is far too ethnically and culturally diverse to afford entire months for this purpose.
I think it's important to stress black Americans' contributions to history; especially in today's climate of critical racism training, trying to convince our darker skinned bruddahs they're excluded, or somehow not fully members of the same society as the rest of us. It's important to refute that by celebrating those who overcame adversity and paved the way for the equal opportunity everyone has now.
You just have to find your own examples instead of lapping up whatever the racial grievance salesmen on TV and in the classrooms spoon feed you.

It looks to me like you’re the one who’s offended by someone not agreeing with you. Why ask the question if you don’t want to hear differing opinions? Why do you assume someone „hates“ them or is offended by them? Jumping to conclusions like that is harmful.
To me, what some term „Black History“, is an integral part of US History and we should be encouraging each other to have a shared identity as Americans.

I have known about it since I was a child. The fact that you (and others like you) hadn't heard about it and knew nothing of it's importance is just further evidence that Critical Race Theory is necessary in America. Funny that you don't think President's Day or Valentine's Day being in February (already the shortest day of the year) are "taking days away" from Black History Month, or it also being "American Heart Month" takes away from Black History Month. Now you show your lack of intelligence by inaccurately defining Critical Race Theory. CRT isn't about simple personal racism or saying all whites are/have been racist. It is about the history and impact of systemic racism. You know there is a difference between racism and systemic racism, don't you? Systemic racism, or structural racism, or institutional racism is about the role of the government in establishing racist norms as law of the land.
Black people have been the only government sanctioned slaves in America. BIPOC have been the only slaves in America. White people (mainly Irish immigrants) have been indentured servants, but never slaves. The two are not the same and the time period in which it covers are not comparable. A number of black slave owners does not equate to the commonality or legality of white men owning slaves. Also, white men were never singled out systemically as less than a person. You are aware of the Three-Fifths Compromise?
And just to let you know, the systemic (structural, institutional) racism in America didn't end when slavery did. Do you know anything about the Reconstruction Era, Jim Crow Laws, Redlining, Segregation, Red Summer of 1919, Tulsa Race Massacre, Rosewood Massacre, Ocoee Massacre, etc., United Daughters of the Confederacy or COINTELPRO? These are all government led and sanctioned forms of racism.
Do you notice how everything you're mentioning doesn't really exist anymore and also apply to white people at some point you're a racist as well this is the problem we have in America right now a lot of our black people think they can't be racist and became black supremacists. Not a single thing that I listed has ever negatively affected white people. Not the Three-Fifths Compromise. Not Reconstruction Era laws. Not Jim Crow Laws. Not segregation. Not redlining. Not Red Summer of 1919. Not the Tulsa Race Massacre. Not the Rosewood Massacre. Not the Ocoee Massacre. Not the effect of the United Daughters of the Confederacy on American education (one of the primary reasons CRT is now needed). Not COINTELPRO.

To think that 250 years of enslavement and another 100 years of legal oppression and segregation don't have any impact on the present is simply asinine. The fact that you want to hold on to your inaccurate depiction of American History is further evidence of the lasting impact it actually has. Baby Boomers were born and raised during segregation and many were nearly (or already) finished with high school by the time the Civil Right Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1968 were passed. They grew up seeing "WHITES ONLY" and "NO COLOREDS ALLOWED" signs. They were accustomed to the mistreatment of black people being publicly acceptable. And this is the time period most commonly referred to by MAGA being great. "Make America Great Again" - great for who?

CRT doesn't teach racism - it teaches the accurate history of systemic racism embedded in the fabric of our country and the impact these historical events and laws may still hold today. It helps explain why White Americans may have the perception of Black Americans that they do. It helps explain why there is such a wide gap in generational wealth. It helps explain why there is the prevalence of racial injustice to this day. It helps explain these things rather than simply saying "white people are evil and racist," it actually does the opposite of what you claim it proports. By no means do I think Black people cannot be racist. By no means do I think White people are inherently racist. I do believe there is a large contingency of racist White Americans, but I also believe that a large portion of them are uneducated on the history of this country and why things are the way that they are.

Is there a Nigerian-American Heritage Month? Egyptian-American? Ghanaian-American? Kenyan-American? Ethiopian-American? Ugandan-American? Rwandan-American? Congolese-American? No, there is not.
Black people have a history month because African-Americans have a mixed heritage that can't be traced back to specific countries in Africa due to slavery. We also were mixed together with American Indians, Mexicans and white Americans.
Actually, there is no specific country for any race other than white people. There's American Indian, not specific tribes. There's Asian American month shared with Pacific Islanders, not Chinese American or Japanese American or Korean American, etc. There's Hispanic-Latino month, not Mexican, Colombian, Argentinian, El Salvadorian, Ecuadorian, Nicaraguan, Brazilian, etc.
