Bill Cosby is getting out of jail this afternoon based upon a ruling by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. And it looks like he can't even be re-tried again. This is some messed up nonsense. I will say again, the American Justice System is jacked.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Pennsylvania’s highest court threw out Bill Cosby’s sexual assault conviction and opened the way for his immediate release from prison Wednesday in a stunning reversal of fortune for the comedian once known as “America’s Dad,” ruling that the prosecutor who brought the case was bound by his predecessor’s agreement not to charge Cosby.
Cosby, 83, has served more than two years of a three- to 10-year sentence after being found guilty of drugging and violating Temple University sports administrator Andrea Constand at his suburban Philadelphia home in 2004. He was the first celebrity tried and convicted in the #MeToo era.
Cosby should be locked up for the rest of his life. But unlike most people I actually dug deeper and read up on what really happened.
Cosby was promised years ago that if he testified in a civil trial that he would not be criminally liable. During a CIVIL trial (again not criminal) he admitted to drugging women. That testimony was used against him in the criminal trial to secure his conviction. This is a blatant violation of due process. This is why his conviction was overturned.
Yes this should of never happened but again the prosecution can’t violate their own oath and that’s exactly what they did.
No matter how much you hate the defendant you can NOT deny due process to anyone no matter how unpopular they are. There has been a push for mob rule in the United States recently and it’s scary.
There are two questions here. First: is it right that Cosby's conviction was overturned? Yes. He was charged and prosecuted in violation of agreements the court made with him. There HAS to be accountability there, or Constitutional protections from the government mean nothing. And Double Jeopardy is one of those protections. Better that a hundred guilty people go free, after all.
What's not right about it? There are very strict rules governing prosecutorial conduct, and they were violated to a gross extent. It HAD to be overturned, or the whole point of the justice system would collapse.
Wait. . . if a rapist goes free, and you think that is right, you may need to acquaint yourself with the English dictionary.

There is nothing moral or good about this. But it is. . ."legal".
As for prosecutorial conduct or misconduct that began with the silliness of letting him testify and admit to the rapes without being held to account. We all knew Cosby was guilty. It was just a matter of getting enough evidence.
It's not good that courts are held accountable to the law? It's not good that evidentiary standards are upheld? It's not good that "sleazy" is recognized as being different from "criminal"? This is sure as hell not a pretty thing, but that doesn't mean it's not good.
If you choose to get wasted and choose to drive home, they don't arrest your car. Even if they did- even if Cosby did was morally rape- one rapist on the loose is a hell of a lot less dangerous than an unrestrained government that can convict on accusation alone.
It’s not morally right that he’s going free but people skate on legal technicalities all the time so I’m not surprised. He’s probably too old and frail to victimize anyone these days, at least I hope so.
On the grounds that he was actually exonerated for, I cannot disagree, I think it's a bad precedent to set, to revoke immunity at a whim. And I know how much that totally sucks,.
He is completely guilty by his own admission and the system is failing the victims. Beyond what was mentioned, there are other failures in the system for the victims here. Statute of limitations is one (from what I understand). While he isn't facing any immediate justice, the one small victory is that it is almost impossible at this point that he'll be able to continue victimizing others. Hopefully in the future justice will be served. The problem is his forced testimony was being used in an illegal way, as a linchpin for the prosecution. There are other ways he should be screwed, and the fact he's not is the biggest problem, in my approximation.
And no, I would never volunteer this opinion if a woman I know was upset and venting to me about their displeasure at this.
Really? He is OLD as DINOSAURS, and TOTALLY DISGRACED!! The best he can hope for is heart-attack, and passing, and in ten years someone "Rediscovers" his comedy from the 1970s and 1980s! I think he is kind of like that dog, that was beaten too much. Just sad, and pathetic!
No. He gets off on some technicality because he's privileged. He should do one year for every woman he's violated, and since there are about 30 of them, that would be enough to assure he dies in prison.
No. The issue with this case was that the other cases were beyond the statute of limitations. They were going to nail him for this one because he admitted to buying drugs with the intent to use on the women he met.
He was an entertainer spent his whole life sexually assaulting children, the disabled, and possibly even corpses, and having it covered up by powerful people; it only came out after he died, so he suffered no consequences at all.
Yeah, teenager come back in a decades or two. Maturity will help with your logic issues. The justice system gave him a pass. What the hell can "metoo" do? Sit outside his house and cry?
Oh, well since Bill Cosby pay to get out of jail. It’s fine. Doesn’t the Bible says, “if someone commits a crime. The suspect will have to pay the victim’s family?”
