I live with a trans guy. I knew him as a girl and I still fumble some times. It's never intentional in a way to piss him off. I used it as a joke when he would wine like a girl about things like when he sees a spider he jumps up like he's a girl still. I've talked about it with him he doesn't take offense but that's just our relationship as friends.

Probably because they're trying to make it a legal offence to not use whatever pronouns they come up with.

    2. If a trans person gets butthurt over pronouns, they have no business leaving their home. Maybe people would have more respect for them if they didn't start crying over such nonsense

Respect and civility and two different things. Respect is earned, not given. Just because you're a human, doesn't mean you automatically deserve respect. You earn respect by being respectable. That being said, you have the free choice to live your life as you please. The other person also has three free choice to believe what they want and has the freedom of speech to address you as they see fit.

If you have to alter your way of thinking for anyone that can be offended by what you say you end up silent forever

I Will respect a trans person that picked between male and female and say sorry if I saw it wrong but that is where I draw the line

Why do we have to purposely call them by their preferred pronoun? A lot of us unintentionally don't do it and it requires a lot of conscious effort to actually call you by your preferred pronoun because we have been calling males a he and females as she for millions of millenniums.

It depends on how well they pass. If a 6’5 280 pound dude puts on a dress and a wig and says he’s trans I’m still saying he. But like Ellen page looks like a dude fr now so I have no problem saying him. I’m not finna think too hard about it

So if someone were to change their name a long time ago and someone found out and started calling them by their old name that would be ok to you because “that’s who they are”

@SmokinAces2000 Your example is invalid because people can have any name that is given to them (by themselves or by someone else) but a pronoun has the purpose of describing someone's biology. A man is called a man because he has the inherent biologial characteristics that describe a male (male reproductive organs and the ability to produce sperm that can fertilize a female human).

For example, a guy named John from birth may change his name to Ken meaning he is now Ken; there is no inherent quality of being John or Ken so changing name isn't a problem. However, a "chair" will always be a chair regardless of whether we decide to call it a "donut" or not, because a chair is something built to be sat on. For this reason, someone can't claim to change their pronouns because they will always be male or female by definition (males are born with male reproductive organs and females are born with female reproductive organs).

In conclusion to my point, what you are calling their "old pronouns" is their only pronoun because it is not possible to become a male after being a female as every cell in their body is still male (XY chromosomes in DNA), they have just attached a foreign object to their body.

I’m not trying to be a smartass but if someone is using a pronoun correctly, then the object of the conversation should not be present in the conversation. Basically someone would have to “leak” the conversation to the object of the conversation in order to be offended. The issue with pronouns is not whether or not we’re respecting the person but it’s a matter of being mandated to use certain words when we’re supposed to be protected by the first amendment.

That’s not what I said. You know that. Why is it that you immediately start attacking me just for disagreeing with your point of view? What you’re actually suggesting is that everyone else change the way they speak so you can feel better and if they don’t change the way they speak, then they will be punished. That attitude is evident in your response. You don’t even have the decency to respect my point of view without attacking me but you demand that I respect yours without daring to question why.

I don’t attack you I’m simply saying that you say we are supposed to be protected under the first amendment, so if a person wanted to follow a trans person yelling slurs at them that’s would technically be free speech so do you think that should be protected under free speech

Just because someone doesn’t agree with you doesn’t make them a “transphobe”. If the first amendment is a problem for you, how much better are transgender people treated in countries where speech is controlled? I don’t see pride parades in Iran, China, or Russia. People in these countries are routinely executed while you whine and complain that someone used a word you don’t like when they were talking about you.

I never said you were a transphobe and I personally just feel like the first amendment has been abused by people who just feel entitled to say whatever they want to say to anyone without repercussions, now in this instance yeah technically you have the right to call someone something they don’t like but why would you hide behind an amendment to excuse being rude to someone

For the record, I don’t think it’s okay to harass anyone the way you described earlier. However, have you considered what the end game of this pronoun debate is? Controlling speech is starting to happen already where this pronoun debate is simply to method to get people to comply. This is simply being used (and the LGBT are being used as political pawns) to usher in a Marxist form of government. Look at what countries are doing this already - Iran, China, and Russia are the big ones who don’t allow free speech. Now why don’t you see Pride Month in any of these countries? Is controlling other people’s speech going to actually make you more free?

No offense but I feel like it’s kinda arrogant for you to say that people are trying to control your speech asking someone to call someone else by their respective pronouns is not controlling speech it’s just asking to be respected, now if someone wants you to call them zebborp or something like that it’s different

Well, it may come off as arrogant but this is not that different from totalitarian takeovers in the past. Create meaningless divisions, have the two fight over something meaningless, then sneak into power and oppress both sides is how a lot of totalitarian regimes start. There really isn’t that much of a difference between you and I and there’s no reason we can’t coexist.

    What are you referring to?
Being transgender needs to be communicated to anyone you might date since it effectively means you cannot conceive children - and to expect someone to be happily misled into loving you 'for you' when they want biological offspring is selfish.
Apart from that, there isn't any trouble with anything else (as long as it is consentual)

Deserve "respect" for what? Your mental illness prognoses?

You don't deserve to be beaten or threatened. But don't try and claim you're "the same" as me just because you've paid your therapist to convince you that you are.

For the same reason trans people can be cunts.
Anyone can be a cunt, and sometimes being a cunt is justified, if someone else is being a cunt with no justification.

So, a PHD is bullshitery field demands to be referred as a doctor, a lot of people will purposefully refer to that person in demeaning ways, because, why not?
    This can be a reason.

Another reason is that the purpose is imputed, not real.

Another reason is the person is being a dick on purpose.

It is not my responsibility to cater to someone else’s emotional needs. My rights do not end where your feelings begin. In the last year I’ve been called racist or privileged just for being white, been called delusional for being Christian, etc etc I've been called things much worse than the “wrong” pronoun.
They can just deal with it. The world doesn’t owe you just because you’re a guy thinking your a woman etc.

One of the most common reasons is them asking unreasonable pronouns that would make you align with a seggregationist ideology if you use them. Another would be people disagreeing with their decision.

But that really doesn’t justify anything. It’s simple you don’t have to believe in anything just call people what they want to be called and that’s it. Now if it’s an accident or something alright no big deal but if someone is purposely going out of their way to call someone something that they know that person doesn’t want to be called that’s highly disrespectful and unnecessary

It’s nothing like that 😂 it’s not hurting someone to call someone what they want to be called and like I said 100 times you don’t have to believe in something to respect it and people deserve respect. A trans person can be the nicest person in the world but people will still hate them and disrespect them because they don’t agree with them

Point is, it's easy for us to judge those we don't understand. Its easy to take a moral high ground and preach upon high about immorality. Trust me, I've heard it enough just from being a lesbian.

I personally don't want to lie to my children about it when or if it comes to it. I'm not really sure how I would go about it though.

That being said I feel like there's a difference in lying because you want to and "lying" because society expects you to. The first doesn't cause frustration, the second does.

I kinda feel like society expects me to lie to my children about these things, but I personally want to be open and honest with my children about any topic. I'll definitely do my best to make sure they have fun though.

Either way, I don't really care for pronouns and I call people by whatever they prefer to be called. It's just a label and it's not my business.

No it is crappy behavior. You can believe whatever you want to believe but you have no right to force your beliefs, your religion onto other people. Nobody has to follow the rules of YOUR religion.

Again you are uneducated on gender dysphoria and it's obvious. Calling someone who identifies as a woman (using she/her) he/him would be lying. You can't tell me you'd be checking a person's genitalia before using their pronouns because that is just plain disrespectful.

Eh... not to be that girl, but biology proves 2 sexes not genders and intersexed isn't clear cut really. A lot of times it is just sort of left up to the parents and they could be wrong.

As for the "lie" part of it. May I counter argue that the words we use today were created by man and have modified heavily through the years. So in reality, you aren't lying by saying her for a transwoman and he for a transman. If that doesn't work, you can also use they/them which satisfies your thoughts of lying while delicately moving around around their preferred gender.

Because getting things like that right is not that important. And this is provable.
You see, most trans people don't care that much about getting such trivial things right. Otherwise, out of their wish for equality, when they claim gender reveals are outdated, we MUST ensure that this includes the moment a trans person reveals their gender. And if we don't have to get things right and include that moment, then people vertainly don't have to get their gender rights either.

@Ez-Bri-Z I'm not concerned about that.

If a MTF transgender is a female in all respects, no different from any other female, why is there such a fuss about those MTFs competing in women's athletics? How is it that they are breaking previously established female records routinely? Simple answer: they are not really female.

Also, ironically, if they let teens go on hormone blockers until they are old enough to start transition they wouldn't have all those advantages you talk about.

People get all freaked out about teens have sexual reassignment surgeries and that's not what it is about. It's stopping puberty so that they can go through one closer to their identified gender

      @Ez-Bri-Z

He says it a bit harsh maybe but to be honest the People that wanna be called anything else than he/him or she/her have created the hate themselves.

      Just like BLM did

They claim to want to be treated equally but then do everything to force their beliefs in too society and demand respect while attacking anyone that has other beliefs. I Personally draw the line when someone doesn't feel like a man or woman. We can't all adapt to a small percentage of the world.

Of course actual trans, gay , bi and lesbian People should be getting respect a lot. The lgbtq community activist group with there rainbow flags are forcing those rainbows in to everything and making People that can not separate those attention seekers from the actual lgbtq People hate them.

The dad and brother of my best buddy are gay , my brother is BI and my sister is lesbian have respect for all of them.

They are Just living their lifes but I am really sick and tired of that rainbow flag. Especially here in the Netherlands where the first gay marriage ever has been.

Those rainbow flag People make their sexuality their entire Personality.

We can treat them as equals all they have to do is live their lifes and stop pushing that rainbow flag in everything

It ruined the Euro's together with the BLM bullshit.

If you want respect earn it don't keep nagging on places where People are trying to escape life for a while.

I also don't believe that real gay/bi/trans People are part of the rainbow flag group. Cause all that group is doing is setting gay acceptence in reverse while it was on a not so. quick but great path to be accepted in every western country.

@Ez-Bri-Z the People that have fought for your right to marry their work is being undone by the pushing of the People with that rainbow flag.

No. I have no problem if you don't want to support it, but when you come on here and actively try to tear down lgbt including those who are transgender that's where I get upset. Notice I didn't really go after the ones who just didn't agree. It's the ones who say "they can never be a different gender" who earn my scorn.

There is not just 2 sexes let alone genders. You can be intersex for example. Gender is a social construct. You don't have to agree with it and im not forcing you to even if it is correct. Im just saying don't come on here saying they can't identify as their correct gender just because you get icked out by it.

Personally, I like that some countries to even identify gender in their language. That would be a hell of a lot easier but this country pointlessly genders everything.

Which by the way, nobody bats an eye when people gender a car or even their own genitals, but a person trying to do it sends everyone into a damn hissyfit.

I never claimed to be a brave man or a savior for transgender people I’m just a nice person that believes that people who give respect deserves respect and frankly you don’t deserve any respect. You don’t have to agree with everything. If everyone agreed with everything the world would have probably died out a long time ago. But if you respect people the world will be a lot better instead you rather be a dick and hate on people that you don’t even know

So Michelle, by your logic once they have a sex change you will use their correct pronouns or will you move the bar on them again?

Yep exactly! Gender is a social construct and can be fluid

Sure can. Males have XY chromosomes and woman have XX - XY you have a dick , XX you have a vajaja. There is no "social construct". Taking hormones doesn't TRULY change you gender does it? NOPE.

Nor does surgery. You still have XY or XX.

      *sigh* another one...

Sex is not gender. You are referring to sex chromosomes and even then there are at least 6 different combinations or at least those.

Gender on the other hand is a social construct.

Also... sexual reassignment surgery exist so they could xy chromosomes and also have a vagina. Your whole comment is just odd.
