- We know that females are subjectively treated better by the courts, even in murder cases.
- Is this grounds to acknowledge that the courts may be biased against blacks too?
- 3.6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
+1 yStatistically speaking? No. If we look at traffic violations for instance, blacks are far more likely to commit them yet are twice as likely to be let off with a warning compared to whites. Statistically blacks get longer sentences which is true. . . its also true that they are fare more likely to commit crimes, have an abnormally high rate of recidivism, far more likely to resist arrest and actively assault officers.
Now if we look at police incidents we see that far from blacks being actively targeted, they are under targeted. That is whites are more likely to be shot by an officer compared to blacks when one takes into account police interactions. Over 50% of all manslaughter, assault and murders are commited by blacks, they are also more then 50% of robberies, abnormally high representation in other crimes like rape. Despite this whites are more likely to be shot by police then blacks per capita. Intersetingly black suspects are MORE likely to be shot by a black officer then a white one comparatively speaking.
In addition to that more cops are killed by blacks per year then blacks are killed by cops despite their abnormal rates of violence (despite being only 13% of the population).
So no, they are not only not treated worse, they are actually treated better statistically speaking then whites are.49 Reply- +1 y
You may be committing some logical fallacies here. It's easy to look at statistics and draw conclusions that are not necessarily try. Saying blacks commit more crimes might align to the statistics, but that might not be the actual issue. The actual issue may be that people in poverty commit more crimes and that black people are disproportionately in poverty (hey, they're only a couple generations out of slavery - things don't always change that fast).
Saying that whites are more likely to be shot by police may be supported by statistics, but are whites more likely to be unjustifiably shot by police? Probably not. - +1 y
@MotorcycleMan No, you just don't like what the statistics say so your trying to rationalize why your view must still be right even in the face of all the evidence showing you your wrong (studies have consistently shown that when people are shown evidence that their view is wrong instead of changing their view they become more certain they are right (paradoxically. Also not an insult or anything this is just human psychology for what ever reason, this is what humans do))).
If it was due to poverty whites would still be far more likely to commit crimes then blacks because their are more poor whites then poor blacks. If it was poverty the greatest areas of crime would be occuring not in urban areas with high black populations but appalachia which is not only the poorest region of america today, but has ALWAYS been the poorest part of the united states and is predominantly white. Yet we do not see that.
- +1 y
@MotorcycleMan If it was poverty then why did it start in the sixties? They where far poorer in the past yet had fewer issues compared to now. If it was due to slavery, why aren't the irish in just as bad of shape? Why if it was slavery, did the first self made female millionaire occur before WWI (I believe around 1909 if memory serves) and was a black woman? Why where the first black congressmen made congressmen within the first ten years of the ending of slavery, the first black US marshal (Bass Reed (the lone ranger is actually based off of him)) was an escaped slave, the first black schools where created by freed slaves like Booker T. Washington, George washington Carver was born a slave yet was also one of the most famous scientists of his time (in fact time magazine refered to him as the black Leonardo Divencie) and was himself quite rich (in current US dollars he would have been a millionaire), etc. etc. So clearly slavery has nothing to do with this nor does poverty.
What it is due to, is fatherlessness. In the sixties we saw a push to create (some say intentionally others unintentionally) a fatherless black community. It was done through specific legislation, that is welfare programs that REQUIRED that a man not be in the home and a woman to have children before she could collect (some find this suspicious as it incentivizes broken homes, especially since another welfare system was being pushed for that would have allowed people to collect welfare if the father was in the home and thus not incentivise the breaking up of the family unit). - +1 y
@MotorcycleMan This combined with the "sexual revolution" that suggested that we should all indulge in casual sex created a system that destroyed the family structure within the black community (72% of blacks are born out of wedlock, for every other demographic its under 30%(and historically was more around 20% and for blacks historically around 28%). If we where to fix the home we would fix these problems but instead grifters who make money and get votes off of angry black people use these discrepencies to push their agenda so they can get money (their is a reason that Al Sharpton's net worth is half a million and Rev. Jackson has a net worth of over a million.) or votes. You'll notice that their are always excuses made for why blacks cannot succeed (which of course helps no one because your telling them don't bother trying) yet every one ignores all the blacks who succeed (Obama was black, that didn't stop him from becoming president of the most powerful nation in the world or the fact that he was voted in with the white ethnic majority vote. No one talks about Oprah who is a multimillionaire TV mogul. No one talks about how "black" music has been dominating the charts for decades making those "artists"(some are some are not in my opinion) millions. No one talks about how Thomas Sowell, a black economists, has managed to succeed despite being raised in those times of discrimination. If what your saying is true, then none of these people would be in the position they are in).
- +1 y
@MotorcycleMan As for being shot, where are you getting that? Notice, you have presumed that blacks are uniquely targeted and yet your evidence is. . . . nothing. So we have statistics showing that blacks are far more likely to commit crime but less likely to be shot and your conclusion is that for white people its justified (yet have not produced evidence or a rational as to why that is the case) and for blacks it is not justified (yet have not produced evidence or a rational as to why that is the case)? How does that make sense? Blacks are far more likely to resist arrest resulting in deadly force being used, this is a fact, yet they are still less likely to be shot. Statistically more cops are killed by blacks then blacks are killed by cops, clearly we cannot argue that police are some how wrongly killing blacks, but we can actually show that blacks are wrongfully killing cops.
Removing personal responsibility from the equation helps no one and hurts every one. You cannot claim that some one is not responsible for their actions. 80% of all interracial violence and crime is perpetrated by blacks against whites. When you remove whites from the equation its 80% of interracial violence being perpetrated by blacks against hispanics. Blacks are statistically 150% more likely to commit a hate crime then whites are. Yet here you would argue that some how this doesn't "count"? Why? Whats your evidence? What do you have to support this idea other then your previously held belief that they are some how discriminated against (which is circular logic, you know they are discriminated against, the evidence says otherwise, we know evidence is wrong because discrimination exists, we know discrimination exists because discrimination exists. No evidence no rational argument is presented). - +1 y
well researched, and well said. Of course, those who aren't interested in FACTS will howl... wait for it.

@MDollarBill Oh, I'm well aware of how these things work. How do you think I know all of these facts? I researched, made an argument, and they howled. I then had to go through to see if I was wrong and baically have had these arguments so often I can write them while having a completely unrelated convsersation with some one else (I've actually done that). But its important to get that information out their, every once in a great while some one actually does accept the truth.

1.7K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. A study from 30+ years ago found that when you're really young, black kids get harsher sentences than white kids for the exact same crime. The theory was that people think the white kid is "innocent" and soft but the black kid is hard/tough and can take a harsher punishment. Once you get put into the system young, it's easier to stay in the system (for multiple reasons). That said, I don't like it when anyone doesn't take responsibility for their own actions so I'm not saying people shouldn't be punished for crimes... but do some people get special breaks: yes.
Everything has to be looked at on a case by case basis tho. You can't prove a specific case was unfair just on the basis of skin color. Lot more to it than that.10 Reply

+1 yNo. Judges follow sentencing guidelines that take several things into account such as value of stolen object or was anyone injured. It's why you get a harsher sentence for robbing a bank than shoplifting. They'll also consider your past criminal history. There's no sentencing guidelines that say give blacks harsher punishments.

They are treated like children by every system. So if you mean are they treated like men? No. They are given the benefit of the doubt most of the time and have the bar lower to ridiculous degrees for benefits, they are given multiple chances, people put up with their shit far too much, and they are even fed by the state because they can't manage to survive on their own. I think they should be treated equally, but most of them would die if they had to live up to normal standards. So most people let it slide because it’s like picking on hand caped kids...

But you don't even need to look at differences between defendants to see problems in our justice system. Anonymous(36-45)+1 yHonestly, I'm kind of still neutral about this. People say Black People are treated worse by the Justice System (usually people on the left), but I'm not so sure about that. If you commit more crimes then you will get a harsher sentence and the stats show blacks commit more crimes and if that's the case then ISN'T IT DESERVING. You can't commit crime after crime and expect not to deal with the consequences of your actions. I think another question worth asking is not that they're treated worse, but "Why are blacks treated worse? That's the most recent year I can find from a Reputable Source. It can help explain why blacks are punished worse. @Exterminatore: Because they are black. History doesn't favor blacks in America no matter how much one likes to pretend things have "changed" in terms of social equality.
- +1 y
So you’re saying across the country a jury of a persons piers, which if the defendant were black I’m sure would include black people are intentionally declaring people guilty and judges are then intentionally giving harsher sentences on the grounds the guilty party is black…NOT considering prior criminal convictions and NOT due to severity of the crime. Simply because their black and for that reason alone?
- +1 y
Things have changed. I’ve demonstrated this before. Go ahead and post on there on FB on Twitter on any social media a post with copious amounts of the “N” word and see what happens. Go to your job and use racial slurs and see what happens. Go in public and loudly say the “N” word and see what happens. Then…. do the same using racial slurs against whites and see what happens.
Things have changed. Racism against whites is tolerated, promoted and accepted. Don’t agree? Then why are Woke people aloud to talk about white privilege and why are they aloud to openly claim that ALL white people are oppressors and automatically racist upon birth? - +1 y

I hope you can see the article for the propaganda it is. I see in several places where statements are made that do not indicate this to be concrete fact. For example one sentence reads “what the evidence suggests……..” I’m sorry. That’s not fact. That’s a hypothesis. Yet the article is written to sound as if what’s in it is Iron clad fact when it’s not. They did the same thing with teaching the THEORY of evolution in schools, only it’s not taught as a THEORY but as absolute fact.
Mark Twain said: “there are lies, damn lies and statistics.”
All this article points to is statistics which can easily be manipulated depending on the data entered or withheld. What would really need to be done is a literal evaluation of every case where it was suspected a black man was given a harsher sentence than a white man who committed the same crime. Both cases would have to be looked and and mitigating factors would have to be looked at.
Can’t just go “a white guy got 10 years in prison for rape, but a black guy got 25 years for rape, so therefore sentencing is racist.” Maybe the white guy only got 10 years because of factors that were not present in the black guys case, but…the media has an agenda to prove how horribly and irredeemably racist America is and is certainly NOT going to take into account facts that might derail their agenda.
I’m sorry brother I simply can’t believe courts are packed from coast to coast with racist judges and further more don’t believe in such a thing as racial bias…that is being racist without intending to be so. Racism is a choice. One must deliberately believe one race is superior to another and act accordingly. There is no passive racism.

Only white men don't receive Affirmative Action in universities and the workplace, violating the equal protection clause of the 14th amendment to the U. S. Constitution. Essentially, white men pay companies to hire women and coloreds... aka the women of race.

Meanwhile: marriage, cohabitation, sex and childbirth rates are at all time lows, women file 80% of divorces, get custody and alimony in 90% of cases and can falsely accuse a good man decades later without consequence.

That's where they're being convicted. These places have high crime rates. That sort of granular data can't be ignored when looking at this issue. And it's not just a matter of people being falsely convicted, it's also excessive sentences. When's the last time that places like New York City, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Detroit, New Orleans, St. Louis, the District of Columbia, Los Angeles and Chicago had Republican DAs and prosecutors?
- +1 y
It was within the past decade that I saw this data, so I'd need to find updated data, but the Bible Belt imprisons blacks at a lower ration to whites than northern states like New Hampshire with tiny black populations. Most blacks live in areas where the prosecutors are Democrats.

You need to be crystal clear about what exactly you want to talk about. Are you only interested in talking about innocent people being convicted of crimes they did not commit and people being sentences too harshly for crimes they did commit?
I do think there's a lot of prosecutorial abuse and a lot of unethical things done by prosecutors, but I suspect you're only interested in cherry picking from that. - +1 y
The only bias shown here was yours (and it was racial bias), and , additionally, you specifically brought up blacks being screwed over by prosecutors, it had to be pointed out that those prosecuting them are usually Democrats. So either Democrats are racist or this is a problem that cuts across race.
But, yes, prosecutors abusing their power is the problem, and it’s a mistake by leftists to frame it as a racial issue. - +1 y
You NEVER prove any of your guilty race-baiting claims. Heck, getting you to state what you want to say clearly is like pulling teeth sometime. And you sure as hell didn't provide evidence that most blacks who are convicted are convicted by Republicans. I wouldn't doubt that there are some places where that is case, e. g., Idaho, but those places have few blacks to begin with. Places like Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, New Orleans, Detroit, Baltimore and Philadelphia do. Think any of those places have Republican DAs? And do you think Democrat DAs are hiring Republican prosecutors as assistant DAs?

Here's a perfect example of the nonsense surrounding this topic. Read this article:
www.msn.com/.../ar-BB1gwxAj
Despite all the blather about "Jim Crow", the DAs during the 40 year period Williams cites (1974-2014), were, wait for it- Democrats! Harry Connick from 1973 to 2003, Eddie Jordan (who is black) from 2003 to 2007, Keva Landrum (also black) from 2007 to 2008, and Leon Cannizzaro until Williams got elected in 2020.
Now, it's clear there were a lot of prosecutorial abuses during that 40 year period that Williams cited, and it's utterly ridiculous that anyone was convicted by a majority jury vote, rather than a unanimous one, but, again, these were all Democrats, as were the vast majority of jurors during that time period.
