It is true a large minority of sexual violence comes from people the victim knows including former intimate partners, but that doesn't necessarily rule out that those people could also be incels.
I don't doubt that it is as you say most incels will not get to the point of actually physically assaulting women, but I'd also venture to say that number isn't 99%. I'm willing to believe you if you have any real evidence of that though.
Even if they don't get to the point of physically going through with it, they do themselves no favors in removing that doubt with how they talk about females as if we are some sort of selfish and shallow creature that doesn't give them a chance. The sense of entitlement there is astounding. We don't owe you anything other than to just treat you like any other human being. You aren't entitled to a girlfriend or for any girl to give you sex. You join the social world and interact like a normal person. You don't just to get sit there and expect women to throw themselves at you. If you strike out, stop blaming others and not taking personal responsibility.

This is a subject near and dear to my heart because my brother and I know many incels.
You know how the internet has made 2 different terms for nice guys? There are nice guys, who are really decent men, and there are "Nice Guys" who are fakes and just acting nice to mask their contempt and/or their desire to get in your pants.
I'm starting to think there should be 2 terms for incels. One to be used for the misogynistic assholes, and another to use for the hundreds of incels my brother and I have known, close to half of whom are women. You read that correctly. Women. (Though the misogynistic assholes for whatever reason insist that women can't be incels)
My brother was born with cerebral palsy. He, and subsequently I, grew up around many disabled people. Many of them were deformed, or mentally disabled, or a host of other things that rendered dating extremely difficult indeed. (And if you're about to say, "Being disabled and/or deformed does not make dating extremely difficult! Why I know/saw a disabled/deformed person who has a spouse!" then I'm about to tell you that the examples you're pointing to are outliers, not the rule. Don't believe me? Go visit a state nursing facility and witness the countless heartbroken individuals who are 50, 60, 70 year old virgins about to go to their graves like that)
Now my brother married. His face was never disfigured and many have said he's quite handsome. In addition to being a make up artist (who touched the face of Cindy Crawford no less!), he is also a licensed counselor for the disabled who has worked very closely with therapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists. Sex and dating is the number 2 problem he deals with. He doesn't pull punches. Dating is difficult for his clients and some never do. He's watched too many of his friends and clients go to their graves (sometimes prematurely) as virgins, in spite of being friendly, as positive as possible, and good people, to believe otherwise. He has held them in his arms as they very understandably wept about never knowing romantic love. He has tried his best to come up with strategies for coping. His wife and I have joined him in holding these people. If you're about to write a sentence with the phrase "pity party " in it, then know that if you did that in my brother's presence, he would probably go full Santa Claus from Miracle on 34th Street and hit you on the head with his cane! Their pain is very legit and sometimes it's very understandable that they break down and weep.
If I sound proud of my brother, it's because I am.
But these disabled clients of his are by no means the only incels I know. I have a few friends who are incels, in the sense they haven't had sex in... well probably as long as you've been in alive, Ez. Two of my aunts were incels in the technical sense. One died a virgin at 89, the other died having only had sex with a man who beat her. Both did their best in a bad situation, but at times I could tell they were understandably sad.
Originally there was a psychologist on YouTube who worked on researching incels, but I'm damned if I can remember her name. This was well before Elliott Rodger when hardly anyone knew the word "incel". She recorded the statements of 5 incels, 2 of whom were women. None of them were entitled or violent. None of them said anything misogynistic. None of them expressed hatred of any kind. If I remember correctly, it was called the Incel Project. Any rate, since the term incel has become synonymous with misogyny and violence, Project Incel has disappeared from YouTube. I suspect it was removed. A pity because I think it shouldn't have been.
The incels I know aren't the violent misogynists you speak of. They are lonely people who are, for various reasons, haven't experienced love. Sometimes they are understandably sad. None of them that I know are violent. None of them feel entitled to love or sex. Many of them don't even call themselves incels or even know the word. Many are women. They aren't Elliott Rodger. They are the grocery store clerk you just said hi to. They're the banker who completed your transaction. They're the crossing guard who make sure your kids are safe. They are often your family or friends. You might even love one and not even know they haven't been with someone in years. Most are just trying to get by just like you.
I agree with you, Ez. The number is probably not 99%. Although I don't have scientific numbers, based on my experience, when you include the incels I wrote about, the number is probably more like 99.99%.

But what isn't talked about, and what you failed to talk about in your post, Ez, is that they're message boards are equally full of severe depression, mental health issues, and suicidal ideation. The media often only mentions that in passing.
I believe that for every incel that turns a gun on someone, there are at least as many, and probably many more who turn a gun on themselves. My brother has lost a client from suicide.
Many people just think, "An incel killed himself? Good riddance to bad rubbish!" Tell that to the grieving families they leave behind.
Telling them they're not entitled to sex/love, or love isn't all that important, and the million other useless things that people on GAG say is not helpful. That first part you sort of glossed right over there that mentions the misogyny and violent language. You don't just get to paintbrush over that and talk about severe depression.
I have severe depression. I hate everything about myself. I have, on more than one occasion, opted to try and end my life rather than to keep going. You know what I don't do? Post things about harming anyone else just because of their gender.
I sincerely hope you find sunnier slopes, Ez. Lately I'm afraid I find myself on occasion waking up and wishing I had died in my sleep. That's different from wanting to kill one's self though. I feel for you.
The reason why I didn't get into more detail about the misogyny and violence is twofold. A) You and most people have already covered it at length. B) My response is to shed light on the incels who *aren't* violent or misogynistic, many of whom are contemplating ending their lives.
Your response is nothing I haven't read a bajillion times before. Just Google the word "incels" and you'll see reams of articles basically saying what you and so many on GAG have already said. Search the word "incels" on GAG. Same thing. How many actually focus on the depression, mental health issues, and suicidal ideation? A paltry few.
If all one does is read message boards on incel forums, or GAG for that matter, it's easy to think that the violent and misogynistic ones are legion. But every single one of those my brother and I have met in real life, and it's more than a hundred, are decent people, not violent or misogynistic in any way. Not a single one. This makes me believe the violent and misogynistic ones are a very vocal minority. Dangerous to be sure, and that must be dealt with, but a small minority nonetheless.
I thought I made it abundantly clear that I wasn't speaking about a tiny but dangerous minority (because that's an issue that you and countless others have been addressing again and again for all the seven years I've been on gag). I was speaking about the overwhelming majority who are seriously depressed and quite possibly pose a danger to themselves.
