Should Robert E. Lee's statue be replaced with a statue of George Floyd?

Let's see.
One man had committed a few crimes in his past and was murdered by a dirty cop and his death helped to see how dangerous dirty cops really are.
Another man was a traitor to his country and fought for an army who were traitors to their country, and one of the things they fought for was to keep men women and children as prisoners against their wills by beating raping murdering and chaining them up.
How many hundreds and thousands of people died because of the actions of all the rebel soldiers decisions to try and succeed from America.
If i had to make a choice as to which one deserves a statue more, geez not a hard choice at all.
No, because General Lee and other Confederates were not traitors.
The Confederacy had left the United States and its people were citizens of the Confederacy. They could not, therefore, be traitors to the United States because they were no longer US citizens.
The War of Northern Aggression was about the tyrant Lincoln using force of arms to impose his will upon the people of the Confederacy.
George Floyd was a vile piece of shit. His death made the world a slightly better place.
Floyd was a career criminal and drug addict. The highlight of his criminal career was when he placed the barrel of a pistol against the womb of a pregnant woman (after he had broken into her home to rob her) and talked about murdering her unborn baby.
Floyd should have been put down decades ago.
Would never say anyone deserves to die, that is the sign of evil in my opinion. But I get what you mean. But are you glad the north won or would you have rather the south won?
Why they had a statue of the loosing general from an enemy of the USA, (put up by money from the kkk and the Birch society by the way) I have no idea.
I would put up a statue of a victorious general who fought for the united states and defeated our enemy not the looser who fought to enslave people and murdered tend if thousands of loyal American soldiers. Piss on Lee, piss on Hitler, piss on the enemies of the USA!!!
Put up a statue of Grant, that's traditional correct?
Or, you could just put up a statue of kee whipping a slave child.. because he absolutely represents SLAVERY. And if you try to whitewash history, you'll never learn from it.
@rcljr he was a confederate general fought to keep slavery legal and lost. I shouldn't be surprised a racist piece of shit like you would want a statue dedicated to a slave holding racist.
@rcljr No, they weren't americans. they were confederate traitors who rebelled against america so they could keep slaves. quit getting your history from the daughters of the confederacy and the kkk you racist cum drinking piece of dog shit.
@rcljr Fuck you, you ignorant racist bitch.
Maybe just leave the space empty, because neither one deserves a statue.

I think Floyd doesn't deserve a statue unless it is not about him but about the movement that is death caused. Because I think that is what you are asking. Obviously Floyd did nothing to deserve a statue outside of his own home but the movement his death cause will be in history books so therefore he does get a statue somewhere if not on the streets.
wow, you are polite.
It would have to be something the State or the local jurisdiction approved of. Otherwise, it was wrong to put it up.
But Robert E. Lee? That statue should have never been erected in the first place. Even Lee said it was silly to continue to have these monuments.
And I quote;
Lee’s letters said that while he would be grateful for such a gesture, these symbols would slow the country instead of “accelerating its accomplishment; & of continuing, if not adding to, the difficulties under which the Southern people labour.”
Erasing history because of political correctness is not great either. These statues, if you take a step back and think about it are a part of our culture and history regardless of it being good or bad. They represent a paradigm shift in times and should be there as markers for who we are and what we learned as a nation in those trying moments as we grew.
Burying history and downplaying it only causes lies and distrust to grow.
Not an American so I don't know that mucba out your history but why make a statue for him? Sure his death was tragic and all but its not like he was a clear record citizen that should be made a hero of... People of all races a across the world die or are killed in worse ways or for better reasons... Should we make a statue of every one of them?
Do they have statues of stalin in romania?
Not that I know of, anyways he wasn't that popular around here we were too busy with our own little dictator which we shot dead some 30 years ago for being an ass hole ya know as one does... Why choose Stalin tho? He didn't die for a good cause he died due to his own paranoia and killing of competent doctors and a stroke
i wasn't suggesting building a statue of stalin, i was wondering since romania is a former soviet block country.
i don't know much (or anything) about romanian history.
We were also legionary at the start of the war so I guess you could've asked about Hitler as well heh...
But I assume then that this Lee fellow was someone important in history? Question is why change that statue with the statue of a not so law abiding citizen? Just on the basis that he was killed by an idiot who didn't value human life? If that's the case there should be thousands of new statues in the US alone all over from what I hear.
The only idiot that didn't vallue his life was himself!! He died of an OD, NOT because of anything the cops supposedly did!!
Be what may i see no point in building him a statue
Neither do I!! Who's next on the list to get a statue, Charlie Manson? Hitler? Charlie's son doesn't even like what his dad did!!
Robert E Lee was a good man our founding fathers had slaves too despite them not liking the institution of slavery that was how things worked back then. WHY DO YOU THINK HE HAS A STATUE In the first place? To satisfy the racists? No. There was a lot of bravery in the confederacy it was about states rights over federal government Lincoln just made it about slavery to hurt the south. Thats why its called the war of northern aggression. George Floyd is just your typical black criminal with a rap sheet.
Anyone who thinks the civil war was about freeing black people is deluding themselves that was just a byproduct
Americans are funny sometimes.
Like are you seriously doing a side by side comparison between a military general who's achievements and shortcomings shaped the world you live in today with a some random criminal who just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time?
Regardless of who's racist or a traitor or anything, to be honnored with a statue should be a reward for lifetime achievements not just handed out to someone for just dying
Just so you know, it''s not ALL Americans,, only the loony lefties that believe everything they hear from CNN and the other bullshit media. Those of us with brains (the vast majority of Americans) KNOW that he was a criminal junkie and died of an overdose!!
No offense taken. I was just clarifying.
Replace statue of freedom fighter with that of a convicted criminal... hmm that is a tough question.
He is as much of a traitor as the founding fathers.
Personally I think the statue should go down and the agreement that deeded the land so long as the statue is there revert land ownership back to the family.
A freedom fighter who fought to keep slavery legal. Boy that's rich.
Your mixin that up, states right for a state to decide its own destiny to keep slavery legal or outlaw it.
That is what the civil war was about, not slavery but a states right to decide to keep it or not.
The northern states had the right to choose to keep it legal or outlaw it, the southern states never had that choice.
You must not be for states rights at all. Technically speaking if the south can't choose to keep it legal, the northern ones should of had no right to outlaw it either.
So what you're saying is he fought for the right of states to keep slavery legal. Lol. So ultimately there's no difference then.
It is a slight difference, the issue was states right, the topic though was slavery.
The south would of eventually outlawed slavery on its own, if the northern states had exercised their own states right and stopped buying product from the south. As other countries around the world started embargoing the south and its products, they would of eventually would have had no one to sell to.
There is a difference, I'm sorry if you don't understand states rights.
Right, the rights of states to own slaves.🙄 there's no difference and you're splitting hairs.
The union had already boycotted products from the south and blockaded the South whose profits mostly came from overseas trade and that didn't make a difference in their stance on slavery.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anaconda_Plan
To those who support state rights, its a big difference.
That plan wasn't until after the war started, I was referring to before it got to that point.
At the same time within 20 or 30 years after the American Civil war, many countries around the globe had gotten rid of slavery peacefully... had the north had some patience they could of done that too, just like the rest of the world.
The main reason states rights are so weak these days is cause of Lincoln and thus we have a central government much like the USSR had... even marriage now is regulated by the federal government and the 10th amendment is largely ignored.
No, it makes no sense to remove a historical statue of a war criminal to some, hero to others, and replace it a statue of a known felon, drug abuser, and overall troubled man. George Floyd shouldn't have died, that much is true, but he also shouldn't be commemorated as a saint either. His actions led to his demise. Had he simply cooperated, he would still be alive today
He DID died of his own hand but it was the OD that killed him!! The cop (s) had NOTHING to do with the reason he died!!
@haphazard He was already over-dosing on it before the cops even got there1 They didn't even get him in the car yet and he was yelling about how he couldn't breathe. They tried to get him to sit in the back seat and he dropped to the floor, instead and kept going on about how he couldn't breathe.
A Junkie who threatens a Pregnant Woman by putting a gun to their belly isn't a Great Person. Statues are reserved for Great People. Floyd was far from it. Floyd didn't deserve to die the way he did, but nobody in their right mind would think he was a Great Person.
i will be laughing my but off when they have to tear the statues down.
Fuck no George Floyd was a horrible person, What Robert E lee defended was horrible but at least he didn’t hold a gun to a pregnant women’s stomach and told her he was going to kill the baby unless she gave him all the money for his drug habit
Yes. Absolutely. King troll. Bigots can deal. I drink their whiny little bitter tears of impotent ineffectual rage. LOL rotflmao hahah
Nope. The statue should be returned. Right, wrong, or indifferent, Lee is part of our history. Next things the snowflakes will cry about would be Mount Rushmore, the Washington Monument, Monticello, and other sites that are part of our history.
No because its just plain stupid to put up statues of a criminal. I will be laughing my but off when they have to take the statues down for harming america's reputation.
---
PS: George die of a drug overdose while the cop had his knee on his back.
Nope. Now if you wanna put up a statue of MLK, or rosa parks or someone who actually fight for civil rights I'm fine with that. But Floyd was just a junkie who died of an overdose.
LOL George Floyd statue just makes a mockery of blacks.
Why would it be replaced with George Floyd if I may ask? Cause he aimed a handgun towards a pregnant woman and robbed her?
No I don't think so. Maybe someone more upstanding.
Martyrdom is very Early Christian ✝️ and it's always been a little odd to fetishize someone dying. We don't want people dying dying for a cause we want them living for a cause.
Yeah,. because EVERYBODY should honour and praise a criminal and OD victim rather than a great General!!
A slave owner and a druggie that put a gun to a pregnant woman's belly... so this is all America has to offer now?
Take it down, leave it up, I don't care... but why do people think that hiding history somehow changes history or erases history? Also, that George Floyd bust in the picture looks like it's made from butter.
Sure. And then when I ascend to be the first US dictator I'll replace it again with a statue of my cock.
George Floyd, the canonized saint of Fentanyl in the church of racial grievance grifts doesn't deserve a statue anywhere at any time for any reason.
Well one was a soldier, the other is a criminal, wife beater, child abuser, drug dealer, and thief. I would rather have the southern general there than that worthless piece of shit.
Wow, putting put statues to a man who’s contribution to society was overdosing which provoked horrible rioting. RIP USA.
There is no plan to.
But statues are a waste of time and money anyway.
A bad history still is history.
Why not place them side by side?
who the f is George Floyd. We are in real trouble if if he is the best choice of a black man to honor with a statue
Damn straight!! Better to put up a statue of Prince or Dave Gregory!! Bob Marley, MLK, Jimi Hendrix, Willie Mayes! There's already one near here of Roberto Clemente.
@FunkyMonkee Excellent examples, but Roberto Clemente was Puerto Rican. 👍
@NYCQuestions1976 Yeah, I thought of that, too but, wasn't he black? I've never been into sports and was still a little kid when he was killed.
@FunkyMonkee Well, he wasn't pale, but he wasn't African American. Hispanic/Latino, born in Puerto Rico. Also one of the all-time best players in baseball history.
@NYCQuestions1976 I knew he was PR but as far as all the pictures I've ever seen, he was black.
As music is my forte, the only other blacks I could think of that deserve to be admired and honoured were musoes. I was trying to get away from that and pulled up his name.
@FunkyMonkee Clarence Clemons. 👍
@NYCQuestions1976 How about Dr. Daniel Hale Williams who preformed the first successful open heart surgery
@sponge-bob Of course. Dr. Ben Carson also. He was the first surgeon to separate conjoined twins. However @FunkyMonkee brought up musicians, so I mentioned Clarence Clemons. 👍
@NYCQuestions1976 we would be here forever naming all the great black musicians
@sponge-bob True.
@NYCQuestions1976 I would sooner pick Ron McNair, the black saxophonist that died ion the shuttle explosion. On that trip, he was going to help Jean-Michel Jarre make the first record ever recorded partially in space!
This is what it would've sounded like.
https://youtu.be/jtGG1WLP1pk
@NYCQuestions1976 Like I said, I only brought up musicians because that's what I know best. Had I known of some of these others mentioned here, they might've been on the list, too.
@FunkyMonkee I'm more of a rock-and-roll fan, but I appreciate the mellowness. It's like noir mixed with a techno background.
@NYCQuestions1976 Jean-Michel makes electronic music albums. His dad was a French orchestra conductor that was very famous for making lots of big name movie scores. His name is, Maurice Jarre. Here's a bunch of the albums/soundtracks he's done. www.45worlds.com/vinyl/artist/maurice-jarre/all
@FunkyMonkee Nice.
One was an honourable man and the other drug dealing cockroach.
Lee was not a drug dealer.
I would prefer not but I can’t control what people will do.
General Lee was Loyal to the people, mark of a true leader. Only treasonous to a corrupt Government.
Loyal to white people, but indifferent about black people and slavery. what a hero. 🙄
General Lee knew the north wanted to abandon black people with no other means of supporting themselves. Many Black people starved after the war. There are far worse things in the world than slavery. Abandonment and genocide are just a couple. Wake up moron, the government isn't your friend.
No and i am not racist i say that since we need to respect the past and be able to be proud of what the past has taught us.
No. We need to remember our history. It's important. Only Communists want to destroy a Countries history.
Nope - no man deserves a statue. Keep the parks and public spaces of the world free of ideology I say.
This is a stupid question, and the answer is no. Here's a better one. What did Robert E. Lee EVER do to improve life in this country? Hmmm... I can't think of a fucking thing.
Nope. You know things are going bad for a country when a criminal gets a statue. God help us all.
George floyd the guy that put a gun up to a pregnant lady belly to rob her?
should we have statues of anybody at all?
No, i don't think we should
Yes so people can spray paint it and deface it like you do to all other statues
So we take down a “traitor” and replace it with a criminal? Makes good sense to me? NOT!
Good riddance to his racist, treasonous statue.
He never actually attacked. He fought defensively. And at that time it wasn't treasonous to secede, there was no law against
Our whole country was started by treasonous people. We used to be part of England. But your right the statue was up long enough
Hell no! If they have to replace it, do it with a statue of Derek Chauvin!
Yes. Lee was a horrible traitor.
Fuck no
Ehh, I’m sure we can find a better role model.
Omg no. Lulz, what are people thinking.
It would be desecrated within a week
Most of the other paintings, murals and statues of him already are!! What goes around, comes around!!
No he has nothing to do with that
FUCK NO!
Lol no
