people are going to die because of the decisions that Biden is making. It would be a success when you got everyone out who was eligible. This whole surrender and withdrawal has been such an enormous embarrassment. It’s worse than Vietnam. In terms of what it says about this country. We have surrendered all sense of moral leader ship on the world stage. I don’t know the details of all this, hand up. But always remember, just like CNN and the left wing media spent four years absolutely refusing to say anything positive about Trump, FoxNews and other right wing outlets are going to do the EXACT same thing with Biden. And I bring that into it because the common person’s common opinion is much more often than not —I’d argue “mostly”— influenced directly or indirectly from their chosen political affiliation’s friendly news sources, on TV or through hearsay in life and on social media. Like I feel like it’s important to very often stop and check on where our thoughts are truly coming from before they become ingrained in us as our “beliefs”, haha. But anyway, all of these news sources will omit or highlight information as they deem most palatable to the preconceived notions of their viewers. News is no longer about accuracy or integrity, solely about viewership and advertising dollars. So don’t get caught up too much emotionally with the bullshit, it’s unnecessary strain on yourself. That’s exactly what they want to do, appeal to your emotions: your fears, your frustrations, etc, all your negative emotions. Telling you everything is fine, or at least fine enough where you’re not going to be dead tomorrow is TERRIBLE for ratings. They aim to create an illusion or exaggerated representation of chaos in the world, just around the corner from YOUR home.

This might be getting sold to us as worse than it is, it might be worse than they’re telling us, it might have been an abject disaster, I don’t know, I don’t really care. The reality is that you, yourself, will be fine. Loss of life is always tragic, particularly in something as senseless as war, but people die, often for no good reason. Such is life, and with all respect, there’s probably no job you sign up for with more expectation of possibly dying than joining the military. I wish it hadn’t happened, but that’s on the US government, because there’s no legitimate reason for us to have been over there. This could have happened under any president’s watch, Biden happened to be the guy. I don’t care either way about Biden, he’s just the next empty suit as far as I’m concerned, I’m not really in acknowledgement of countries and governments and authority, etc, so I have no dog in the fight. I just unfortunately see like 90-95% of the US population in lemming mode, split in two, but all of them running headlong towards a cliff just because their friends with like-minded politics are doing it too.

I haven't heard anyone say it wasn't a shitshow, but I do hear people saying that it was going to be bad no matter what, which is a really stupid perspective to have. These are the same people who honestly believe that anyone disputed whether getting out of Afghanistan was the right idea. Anyone who has actually spoken to real Americans knows that getting out of Afghanistan was a good idea. Trump's plan was to become energy independent and then slowly withdraw from the country (dependence on foreign oil is the only reason we invaded the Middle East to begin with). Biden shutdown our domestic oil production (forcing us to depend on foreign oil), and then handed over our presence in the Middle East to the exact terrorist cell that threatened our access to oil in the first place. Afghanistan might be the graveyard of nations, but it's really tough to argue that anyone but Joe is to blame here. The guy literally undid 20 years of work, got 13 Americans killed (and god only knows how many of our allies), cost us trillions of dollars, and gave a massive payday to our enemies.

I think that's one of the tricky things about war - it's not often as simple as 'beat the bad guy and we win'. Our occupation in Afghanistan was never going to end well because we weren't up against an enemy, we were up against an ideology - an ideology that only strengthened because of our occupation. There was never going to be a way to leave the country and not have this happen. Never. The situation isn't as simple as Joe vs Trump vs Obama vs Bush, it never is. And it's not as easy as 'well if we'd just stayed... if we'd just done this...'

It's tragic, and painful to see what's happening, and my heart goes out to all the service members and families that have paid the ultimate price, as my heart goes out to the millions of Afghani citizens who are now suffering and dying and trying to find a way out. But to say that it's any one president's fault or to say that if we'd just stayed, or to say that if we'd just done x, y or z is far oversimplifying the situation.

The occupation and then airlift out of Afghanistan was not a success. We may have found the people responsible for 9/11 but the way that we went about it led to this end, and, for the most part, it has been an endless, bloody tragedy.

Okay, so if I threw a birthday party and 13 of my guests died at the birthday party, I wouldn't hop on social media and declare my party a huge success, however, in this real world scenario, what plan has anyone concocted that would have led to "the perfect" evacuation? Everyone likes to talk out the side of their mouth about "what should/could/would" have been done, but unless you're sitting in that pressure cooker trying to make these insane decisions based on the intel you have, everything is BS. Trump can sit at his hotel and say he would have done better, but the truth is, he didn't while he had his four year chance. I'm not high fiving Biden, but I'm also not condemning everything he has done because there are literally thousands of people back in the US today who can hug their loved ones, and drive their kids to school every morning, and will get to enjoy Christmas this year with their families for the first time in years instead of in a dusty desert a million miles off. I dare you to tell those families that this evacuation was a complete and total disaster.

The airlift was a success in terms of how many people were brought out + the low number of soldiers lost during the operation.
BUT: The whole operation was way too expensive and the Americans could have been there for twenty more years and the results wouldn´t be much different. You can´t change culture if most of the society is against you. Besides women and people living in the big cities there weren´t many Afghans interested in a change of culture.
Because the government of Afghanistan was rather weak due to corruption the whole system had to break down sooner or later.
The problem is that European forces and the USA didn´t know much of the country and come from different societies they weren´t prepared well for that mission.
It wasn´t possible from the beginning to bring out everybody that wanted to because where do you wanna bring them? You´re talking about ten thousands of people? How do you know they might be persecuted, because they probably have seen that Americans live a better life style than they do so they want the same.
I think the way of going out was a failure but I think the mission is way too overrated by some people looking back.
It should have been clear that you´re not turning Afghanistan into a Western-style society as foreigners.

My troops have been in that country for twenty years. The longest war in US history. When shall the citizens of this country be responsible for what happens in their own country? I’ve personally heard complaints that the US troops should be back to where they came from, US troops bring nothing but war, get them out of my country, etc. This war isn’t helping the economy either. The US is in so much debt that is not even funny.

My question for you is “knowing that people will die no matter what. Whether the US stays in that country or leaving. What outcome were you expecting?” I want my troops to come home and heal. I want my economy to grow for a better living for myself and loved ones.

Why do you choose to say it’s blood in Bidens hands and not blame the Taliban which is the direct cause for terrorizing their own country and the exact reason why the US encased that country to begin with? Pentagon: U. S. can get up to 30 C-17 evacuation flights out of Afghanistan each day.
16,000 people evacuated in the last 24 hours, about 11,000 of those on military flights.
Have you ever seen a C-17? I know most of my fellow aviation nuts have, but for my friends/family who have not, that is a HUGE aircraft. Absolutely immense. And the USAF is cranking out a full C-17 flight from Kabul every 45 minutes, using a SINGLE runway in enemy-controlled territory, non stop, 24 hours a day right now. This has literally never been done before in the entire history of aviation... the USAF is literally making history. They evacuated more than twice as many people YESTERDAY as we did in the entirety of the Saigon evacuation in 1975.
Anyone who wants to pop off about this being a failure needs to shut their piehole unless it's to commend the incredibly hard working men and women of the US Air Force, and the ground forces supporting their mission. It started rough, no denying that, but in less than a week, the situation has been stabilized and the mission exponentially increased to a tempo never before seen, not even during WW2. The part that gets me is the logistics of supporting this mission - the ground crews are going full throttle right now, bringing in fuel, oil, fluids and servicing the aircraft as best and as fast as they can. What they are achieving right now is nothing short of incredible.

If anything, it was largely Biden's decisions that led to this crisis
Much of it could have been averted by simply holding to the Peace Process.
The Taliban would not have dared crossed the United States, if it recognized it was committed to the peace process, and would make it void (as was threatened) if the Taliban broke any of the agreements.

However, Biden made it clear that an unconditional withdrawal would take place
and the Taliban recognized they would have free reign.
This also further destroyed the morale of the Afghan Government, and only exacerbated the corruption/ineptness of that government..

The Loss was 100% the Fault of the Afghan Government
which for many years... became a waste of USA resources
FOR EXAMPLE, how Afghan Government officials (and Military leaders) would siphon off resources that were meant to go to the ANDSF.
Many soldiers were not given their salaries, and many outposts were not being armed... because the elites of Afghanistan wanted to make some $$

The Taliban were not strong.
They were weak..
They were not capable of conquering Afghanistan.
But the Afghan Government's corruption assured its own destruction
Remember.. the Taliban did not force their way into many provinces... many Provincial Governors simply sold their territories away
Many military units were also betrayed... some fighting for weeks after the surrender of their governors (like in Herat).
this list goes on and on and on and on and on

The Afghan Government DESERVES nearly all of the blame

However, Biden also deserves some blame for taking a somewhat tenable position
and completely screwing it up
and mishandling the withdrawal in the most pathetic way possible.

I’ve heard about the troops being pulled out while a couple hundred American civilians were left behind. On the surface, it would seem like a screw-up and it was rushed, but then the thought occurred to me that maybe those couple hundred Americans are CIA or NSA operatives left behind deliberately. Biden couldn’t come out and say that, for security reasons, but all the top Pentagon people would have gone over all the possible scenarios of an operation this big. The story of Americans being stranded would be a good cover story, I’m not saying that’s what actually happened, but it can’t be disproven either.

Trump made the withdrawal agreement with the Taliban, Biden postponed it a bit.

Leaving was good, the way it was done, however, is a disaster and a disgrace. And it makes it nearly impossible to get local support in any future military endeavors since they can't rely on the US in case of a withdrawal.
