How did you fare during these resent storms Elsa Henri and Ida? Are you concerned about Larry?

These storms were harsh and for many they were devastating.
So I figured I ask and give anyone a chance to vent or to express their blessings.

For me
These past three months have been tough. We've flooded repeatably. With Ida I know it could have been worst and that I am luckier than many. Yet the damage even though light compared to the devastation it did in many other states still hurts. I'm still dragging stuff out of the basement but I'm only one person and there's only so much I can do at a time.

Not even a 1/4 done yet

Overall yes I know I was blessed not to have lost a lot more.
And I feel terrible for the many who lost everything and even their lives.
I pray 🙏 for those who suffered greatly during these storms.

Did a major clean up. Sent 3 truck loads to the dump and still have one truck load left for tomorrow. Sadly that doesn't complete my work load. There is still a lot more cleanung up to do.

I live in northeast Florida and the last direct hit by a hurricane was Hurricane Dora in 1964.

In the Atlantic, the gulf stream steers storms which approach it tangentially, so storms tracking up the Florida east coast will pass Jacksonville 50-100 miles offshore and move on to South Carolina. Storms which approach the gulf stream perpendicularly can cross it and keep going, and that is what Hurricane Dora did in 1964. And that is the last time that we had a direct hit by a hurricane. We get some winds, rains, and local flooding but it does not compare to a direct hit. It is quite unusual for a storm to approach the mainland on a westward course, rather than a northwestward course, at this latitude.

The other way we take a hit from a storm is f it goes into the Gulf, turns eastward, and comes back across the state. It is not unusual for that to happen but by the time the storm gets to Jacksonville, it has been downgraded to a storm or depression rather than still being a hurricane.

We are quite blessed in this area.

That's a cool bit of info. It just shows how rare occurrences can happen.
I lived in Puerto Rico during Hurricane George in 1998. That was a nightmare. It hit the Island in it's entirety. I recall being without electricity and water for 6mos washing clothes by hand in the river and collecting water at a spring.

I at least know how to wash laundry by hand... Infact just did so today because my washer is partially dead I can fill it by a hose it tumbles a bit (I have to help it along at times) and it drains but won't rinse or spin so I refill it after it drains set to "wash" to rinse and then wring it by hand and toss into the dryer that miraculously survived three floods... I'm penny pinching cuz I've gotten quotes hitting just about a 1000 to have help removing the damage items and appliances and having them junked.

I know how you feel, I live in Pennsylvania USA and I do know one Hurricane
we were hammered with high winds and rain but It's strange cause we live
down in Valley our City has 2 names Mon-City PA USA and Monongahela PA
USA Also one Summer years ago, I watched an 8 foot Pine Tree of my
former neighbors get ripped out of the ground and as I looked outside
the rain and wind was life threatened but we didn't get home damage
and the thing down at my old house I was lucky cause we had a
huge tree in front of our house but no storms hit it

there were leftover twigs from trees on the streets and the neighbors
tree rooted up laying in their yard.. I just scared to be without power

I hate going without power. My stove is electric so when ever we lose power because of these storms we have to use a grill... Grilling on the front porch while it pores outside NO FUN even with an awning there's still wind blowing the rain towards you.
Then there's the dark... used to use Candle light but now I wised up I use solar power outdoor pathway lights. Charge during the day and bring inside at night... I sent quite a few packages of them to Puerto Rico after hurricane Maria. They might not had electricity but they have plenty of sunlight to charge those panels!

with no power from a horrible snowstorm and we went from Friday to Sunday no power to
Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p. m. yes it sucks big time

I live in Canada and we get far fewer hurricanes and I’m not sure if we get any hurricanes at all but we have other problems like some of our provinces have expensive forest fires that put a dent in our annual tax budget etc…

I have seen those fires on the news 😳 I think I'll take the hurricane over fire 🔥. I have more experience with hurricanes than fire. I don't think I'd know what to do in those infernos.

@meetkitty123 with hurricanes you have a chance it will not do much damage whereas when a fire comes you don't have much chance at all. I am in Louisiana, I have seen my share of hurricanes...

I live in the upper Midwest and honestly they caused some pretty desirable weather patterns up here that are getting us out of the extreme drought we're in.

The ONLY time I endured a hurricane was with Hazel in 1954. I was 9 and it tore a huge oak tree right out of the ground in my front yard.

The eye of Hazel was tracked across several towns in North Carolina as the system continued northward. At 18:00 UTC on October 15, the hurricane became extratropical near Raleigh, and within six hours had passed near Washington, D. C. Its extratropical remnants accelerated to the north through Pennsylvania and New York along an extended cold front. Despite widespread observations across the eastern United States, there continues to be uncertainty in the track of Hazel as an extratropical storm. The Canadian weather service maintains that the original circulation dissipated over western Pennsylvania and a new one formed over western New York.[6] In contrast, the U. S. Hurricane Research Division later assessed the circulation as becoming elongated but continuous. On October 16, the storm crossed into Ontario and over the Toronto region.[3] Shortly thereafter, the former Hurricane Hazel dropped to gale-force winds after moving almost 1,000 km (620 mi) over land.[3][6] The storm slowed and turned northward, passing over James Bay early on October 17. After turning to the northeast, the remnants of Hazel were absorbed by a larger extratropical storm over Canada on October 18.
