At one time, the storm was projected to pass directly through my hometown in northeast Florida, but it eventually took a more southerly course and then stayed offshore as it was steered away by the Gulf Stream. We had winds of up to 40 mph and heavy rains for about hours, so we missed one day of work and then life went back to normal. We were quite fortunate while others were far less fortunate.
