Have you ever experienced a hurricane?

We're getting hit by Debby with a whole lot of rain today and tomorrow and there's a huge chance of flooding. I have experienced a few hurricanes living in NC. I have even driven through one in my college days. I don't recommend it. I couldn't see anything and the wind was blowing hard. I also had to go around fallen trees. I was soaked because my umbrella gave out when I was walking back to my truck after class that day and it was a long walk and it was absolutely pouring down raining. If that wasn't enough I came home to find the power was out so I couldn't even take a shower. So I am very thankful I don't have to be out in the storm today.

Nope but I was almost about to be there with Debby. I was on clearwater beach when they first announced it and I was having the time of my life... the skies were clear, my parents were about to be put on an anniversary cruise and me and my cousin were standing knee deep in the water. (Yet my dress somehow got wet even though it doesn't even touch my knees.) We took pics and then the dark clouds came in. And we had to pack up quickly. We unfortunately only had 2 vans which is 11 seats a van because we took two seats out of the back rows of each van for luggage purposes. So imagine 29 people trying to fit into 22 seats. Luckily and unfortunately the cruise was cancelled so all 3 vans were there. So we all packed up, lost the keys to the thrill seekers van (there were 3 vans 2nd Unit, Moderate, and Thrill Seekers. My van was the thrill seekers ofc.) We finally found them in the trunk (Isaac was moving too fast and left them in there on accident.) We stayed in Kissimmee for 2 extra days and while leaving out the skies were so dark and it was pouring down raining. So we literally almost got caught in it but left before it hit. LOL.

Also it was 13 seats a van... And 2 extra seats in the back had luggage in them, I just wanted to clarify. There were 26 seats without luggage.

I've never lived in an area that gets hurricanes, but I have experienced one. I was in Taiwan, working on a project, when a massive hurricane arrived. There was plenty if advance warning. The hotel I was staying in was prepared, putting plywood on all windows and sandbags at all doors. Thiugh we were effectively locked in, we were safe.

In the middle of the typhoon (what they call a hurricane in Asia), my colleagues and I got a call from our customer and they needed our help with the computer system. So my 2 colleagues and I snuck out a back entrance and walked to the customer site several blocks away. In hindsight, it was one of the dumbest things I've ever done. Pouring rain, highwinds, things blowing around. Fortunately, none of us got hurt. We helped the customer and they were very thankful.

Too many times growing up in Florida have I dealt with these tropical storms. As you said the power outages, mucho rain, wind that is too loud to sleep. Debby knocked over one of my trees yesterday. Please everyone be safe and Debby will be out of here by next week. Then we track the next storm as always this season.

Yes, I have lived through a few. Once when I was a kid I had a tree house and it had a roof deck. I had an American flag attached to a tree. I did not want the flag to get blown away so I went in the woods and climbed up to the tree house and went on the roof and retrieved the flag. The trees were swaying back and forth and I was afraid I was going to fall.

I was on vacation once in Florida and experienced one. It was just intense enough to be interesting, but not too intense to be dangerous. So I actually enjoyed it

@Grond21 as a Floridian I kind of agree with this. I don't know if I'm weird but for the most part it makes me feel safer at home. The last time I was scared about a Hurricane was that one (forgot it's name lol) that was supposed to be as strong as an atomic bomb but when it landed it's strength had decreased and did no real damage.

It barely made it to a category 1 when it hit the Florida bend. You didn't experience a hurricane. I doubt it was even a tropical storm by the time it hit North Carolina. It was just a tropical depression. That said a category 1 is nothing. Category 3 is kind of when you pay attention. Category 4-5 are dangerous. I've been through many hurricanes.

I experienced the lack of the experience if that makes any sense. The day after my cat died there was a random tornado that went around my block. We noticed nothing, normally tornados don't exist here so that was very random.

Oh yes. My first was Hurricane Belle on the day tomorrow in 1976. The eye of the hurricane came right over my house. It was eerily quiet when that happened around midnight to 1 AM EDT on 10 AUG 1976.

Southern Texas... we've had a couple direct hits before, other than that... lots of storming, and some tropical storming

Back in the 80's we had a big storm. The waves picked up rocks the size of cars from the breakwater and tossed them through buildings on the beach. I remember driving around town with my dad cutting up fallen trees for firewood.

We don't get hurricanes in L. A. but we did get that rare terrible Tropical storm last August. We were woefully unprepared for it.

The things we gotta worry about here are earthquakes and fires
