How can anyone be proud of something they did nothing to achieve? Be proud of a nice sun tan but don't proud of being born with a certain skin tone.

You see the problem, there’s a clear connotation. You can be proud of your ethnicity but being proud of your race is idiotic since race is a made up human construct and ethnicity has more influence on a person than race.

There's no other way I could refer to ethnicity. When it comes to culture, there's no distinct ethnicity in America these days.

No, it's because they lost touch with their traditions and heritage. European-Americans because they were assimilated into a consumerist society, African-Americans because they were enslaved. Americans regardless of skin color should have a critical view about our society and culture as part of the American experience.

Race and ethnicity are the same exact thing. the two words are synonyms, like gender and sex.

I'm Caucasian. That's my "race", but ethnicity goes beyond that. I'm English and my ethnic background is vastly different to a Caucasian from Scandinavia or the Mediterranean.
I live in South Africa. There are 11 official languages spoken here. 9 of them are African languages and the cultures they represent are ethnically diverse, yet most people would just say "black".
So I'm proud of my ethnic background - English, not necessarily my "race", Caucasian. European Caucasian's descendants have fucked up North America and Australia and New Zealand for the indigenous peoples by displacing them. They fucked the continent of Africa by dividing it up into European-type nations but ignoring traditional tribal boundaries, resulting in a continent at war for over a century as tribal boundaries are displaced by the invasive style. The Hutu and Tutsi genocide in the 90s was the result.

Race is not a social construct, it is shorthand for "racial ethnicity", it is citing your dna and your genetic relation to other people, and nothing else. No actual studies state otherwise, and this is how its been referred to since before you were even born. Race does not have cultural or sociological implications, as people are individuals, and culture is region and law based, not ethnicity based.
Gender is not a mentality, thinking like a male or thinking like a female is a "woke sjw" fabrication with zero scientific backing. There is no actual difference between how men and women think by default, and any common difference between them is the result of cultural influence overriding individual preferences (ie being a follower), real world experience has proven this, and anyone who believes an internet claimed study to the contrary, has zero concept of sound methodology when running a study, and is blind to whats in front of them.
Gender symbols are used in animal encyclopedias, medical books, books on paleontology, biology books, etc to note an organism's biological sex, not their mentality or behavior (which varies greatly by both individual, and species), and stereotyping genders into ways of thinking needs to stop, because again, people are individuals, and countless studies about every other biological topic have indirectly have proven this, as does just interacting with people or other animals.

It should be noted that the mentioned dictionary was made when most words only had one definition (as it should be), because most people who had a say in what went in, were literate, and not arbitrarily offended by everything.
From the same dictionary, the only definitions for "race" reads only this (gender only has one definition in that book by the way)

1. gender = biological sex
2. race = ethnicity = sub-species, but also ethnicity can refer to culture or origin as well in anthropology, so for the only duel definitions, you had it backwards, but both are still synonyms.

That said, I can't relate. Being proud just because someone else is also white? I don't see how that relates to me at all. Might as well be proud of someone because we all have eyes.

What does it mean to be “proud of being white”? Being “white” is a weird Anglosphere concept of throwing together loosely connected ethnicities in Europe that share little ancestry, history, cultural traits and constantly fought with each other.
There's no other name for Americans of European descent. They lost touch with their heritage and traditions as part of the European-American experience.
I am proud, very proud and when I compare their success to that of other races I feel even prouder. I will raise my daughter to hate those who try to shame her for her race. Should we shame blacks for their extreme history or violence and rapes? Why hold one group accountable for things that they didn't do and excuse another groups for things that they still do?

I would not say it is horrible to be proud in the sense that you have pride in what you ancestors accomplished, but it is wrong to be proud in a way that makes you think of people who are not white as lesser than you, because that it not true.
Overall, I think one should be proud of their own accomplishments rather than their ancestors', but I would not say that it is horrible or extremely defaming to be proud of others' accomplishments.
