Is Covid overblown?

Well you can count me and I'm being one of those idiots because I agree investigate covid-19 and investigate 5G do you know before 5G even came out over a thousand scientists all over the world all over the planet I said do not fire up 5G why because it will kill people it will give people blood clots as a matter of fact he will give you the same symptoms as covid-19 does isn't that amazing now each time they fire up 5G on the outskirts of your town or country or whatever we have a different type of covid-19 about 5 months ago everything was good and what did they do they fired up more plants or towers of 5G and then all the sudden we had it again as a matter of fact 5G stated that it would give blood clots before covid did about five months into covid-19 they're saying people are dying because of blood clots oh yeah idiot would take the government's word that all this shit is legit somebody that smart is somebody that knows that the government has lied to them many times would kind of be standing back watching listening learning your a grown man you can do whatever you want you can think whatever you want I choose to not follow I choose to investigate things myself and the things that I found out with blow you away
Depends what aspect you mean.
What a lot of numbnuts don't understand is that Covid the virus is only a fraction of the problem.
The main issues (and reason for lockdowns, restrictions, etc) are the long term effects of Covid and health uncertainty. It's hospitalisation and infections rates are worse than peak Ebola.
In other words, the symptoms of Covid are just a small external effect. The internal damage you can't see, to your lungs, kidneys, brain and endocrine system, reduce your life expectancy. If not trigger your underlaying health conditions and lead to your early death.
Hence why it's laughable when dipshits go with the "I had Covid, but I'm fine!". No Karen, your organs will have been damaged, and you'll need to undergo many a scan and examination in the future when you come down with something - if you don't die within the year by triggering something first.
It's the black hole uncertainty in every 21st century medical field that Covid has created, which is making even businesses sit up and take notice. But Karens with their essential oils think a nice lavender candle is all you need.
It's no worse than the flu.
You know how flu season comes around every year so you have to start throwing all the dead people into mass graves because there's no more room in the morgues? Yeah, the flu.
Where exactly are these mass graves? They only exist on your TV because there is no pandemic. How many fucking sick dying people have you seen in person. How many ambulances and funeral cars since 2020? I am guessing not many. You know damn well that what the news is reporting is not adding up with reality at all.
C its an international one. It sure as fuck doesn’t care about borders.
Opinion
42Opinion
Covid is a fancy name given to a common cold variant in order to scare the sheeple into submission. It always has been and people are still refusing to accept it.
Death rate of 2.2% (that's assuming all covid cases are legit, but let's say they are)
SARS: 9.6%
MERS***: 34.4%
H7N9 Bird Flu: 39.3%
Marburg: 80%
All these taken from the site satista. com I'm talking international here this is not some rigged number given by a politically biased group of a given country.
Numbers don't lie and they certainly don't listen to opinions.
Covid is the lie of the century a way to shift the power scales by media manipulation. They show you a hospital with a dying patient ignoring the millions of patients who didn't even show symptoms. Like I'm sorry but we can't save them all it's sad but it's life no matter how much we quarantine and how thick the tape over our mouth is people are still gonna die it's just how humans work.
So is covid overblown? Answer: duh.
Covid has killed less than 700 000 worldwide so far it is not on any list I checked multiple sites among which the world health organization and places that are at least a bit "credible".
But one can give the counter argument that compared to ebola covid hasn't been around long enough for example so the total victims are not a valid measurement as opposed to how deadly it is on average especially since it's very infectious and the sample of contaminated people is huge.
AGAIN this is not how satistics work.
Virus A: 500 infected 450 dead.
Virus B: 10000 infected 600 dead.
Virus A is more deadly even if it has killed less.
Covid is one of the most contagious viruses out there and it broke out in a world of near 8 billion people as opposed to the others who saw their rise in a much smaller world.
It doesn't matter that it killed 5,357 070 people (assuming all the fake cases are real) it matters that there were 271,963,258 infections.
That means:
266,606,188 people survived.
It means the virus is not deadly and nothing to fuss over.
THAT is how statistics work.
A virus is more deadly if it kills more people. Statistics be damned. A virus that kills 100% of infected people, but doesn't have a mechanism to transfer from person to person without, say, licking their eyeballs, will not be deadly. You simply step away from the infected person or wear glasses.
How many people worldwide did those diseases kill: SARS, MERS, H7N9 Bird Flu, Marburg?
Look man it seems we are doomed to disagree which is fine.
3 years in I think anyone who can't see that covid is bullshit probably doesn't wanna see and I'm not judging. If you're happy with the state of the world then I'm glad.
But by the same token there is no argument that will convince me that we need to be cowering in fear wearing masks and staying away from humans just because some virus has a very slim chance of killing one of us.
The eye licking thing is a solid point and I agree with you there but it doesn't change that I don't wanna spend the years of my youth trying to preserve a life that I will maybe get to enjoy when I'm old and frail
This does not contradict that. It has nothing to do with people wanting to live their lives.
Your life is worth nothing if you're not living it. Hiding away in your room is no better than being dead. I know I'm being dramatic but it seems to me people are so caught up in defending covid as a "threat" they are forgetting that they are forsaking their own lives.
Ok it killed people so did so many other things we (humans) have always solidered through, we survive natrual disaster as well as wars we start ourselves. A thousand things try to kill us every single day but we keep going.
And Covid is not gonna be the thing that stops us and kills our will to live.
I disagree. Trust me, at my age a couple of lost years is a larger proportion of what's left than you have. Even so, there have been very few restrictions on me over the last year, at least over here. Is your life not worth living if you're not having unprotected sex with multiple people? Of course it is. Work together, protect each other, and the world is a better place.
You say that at 56 but keep in mind I am less than half your age. Can you honestly tell me you would have reacted the same to these restrictions at 24? A few years mean nothing to you because you've already had over 50 of them to me a few years are still a good chunk of my overall life.
I may always use protection in bed but you better believe I keep very busy in that department but masks are not equivalent to condoms.
Being responsible means if you got covid quarantine and make sure not to spread it as opposed to go have a window licking competition with 20 people. I'm not saying let's forget covid exists I'm saying let's not let it take away our good years living in fear
What, exactly, are the restictions where you live? Here, at the moment, you have to prove you're fully vaccinated or recovered in the last six months in order to go into a non-essentials shop. Everybody should wear at least a medical mask. That's it, afaik.
When I was your age, my parents were still alive, and I'd have been worried about their safety.
I live in Europe my parents are not even in the same country so no risk there. And we have to prove vaccinations for even essential shops. If you're not vaccinated you have about as many rights as a stray dog.
See I willingly got vaccinated I don't mind a vaccine but I do mind that even with the vaccine available for free worldwide we're still considering covid a threat.
It still is a threat! That's why people who choose not to be part of the solution are treated as part of the problem. And don't get me wrong, it's a choice; it's not like your parent's religion or skin colour, it's a personal choice whether to get an almost completely safe injection or not.
I finally decided you weren't going to answer my question, so I found this:
www.statista.com/.../
I also found: "From 1967-2012, 571 cases of Marburg virus disease including 470 deaths were reported."
Seriously, 45 years and 470 deaths, and you think that's comparable to less than 2 years and 5 million deaths?
Get serious, please!
Well is it overblown to Americans.
the following are the numbers killed in WW1, WW2, Vietnam and 9/11.
World War I: 116,516
World War II: 405,399
Vietnam: 58,220
9/11- Afghan War: 2,977 ish
Which is 584k deaths.
let’s round it up to 585k.
then add in the number of years….
well for Covid, it’s currently 805000 deaths.
Yes okay some will have died in a road accident but will have had Covid, even if you take off 100000 people, you still have more people killed from February 2020 to December 2020, than last few major wars.
Imagine loosing 800000 Americans in a war in less than 2 years.
Could there be a in between? Like it was a bit over blown but at the same time, it is still a dangerous Virus?
It is overblown by the people that want government vaccine mandates, but they doesn't mean it wasn't a serious Virus if that makes sense? I am fine with businesses having vaccine mandates for employees and customers however, they are private company and can do what they want. However, like if people choose to go out to bars, vaccinated or not, they know the risk of getting the virus, and they are making that decision for them selves, the same goes for the workers. You chose to work at a place that doesn't require masks or vaccines.
So like I said, I am on the both train. It was definitely a bit overblown, however, doesn't mean that Covid itself isn't something that shouldn't have been taken seriously.
Covid is significant, but yes covid is overblown. There are worse diseases (CAD, TB, stroke, cancer, diabetes, etc) that kill more people both proportionally and absolutely that don't receive any of the level of attention or counter-measures that covid has. By definition, covid is overblown relative to these other diseases.
Ironically, this year covid is about on the same level of suicide.
Additionally, these far more significant diseases have been exacerbated as healthcare is repurposed towards this distraction. More people may yet die from covid hype than from covid itself.
To be clear to you authoritarian folk, I'm not saying we should panic over every single disease. I'm saying this level of hypochondria is insane.
Not disputing your beliefs, just curious how you think "COVID Hype“ will kill people.
@HazyDaze63 I think he's saying it will indirectly cause avoidable deaths
@HazyDaze63 As one example in my country for cancer alone, the reallocation of hospital resources combined with reluctance to go to hospital has resulted 24k potential undiagnosed cancer cases, and 20k cancer patients not getting their treatments.
When it comes to cancer, time is essential and their chance of death will have gone up significantly. The estimated additional death toll is 18k. That's cancer alone.
I suspect omicron is, for now... because the severity will be less. we will see how deadly it is soon... then there is the subsequent variations to come for the next few years.
In general it was not overblown, it's a virus that can overwhelm the medical system's ability to care for people. Some people get very sick and die, most survive. The numbers of deaths are large, so govt clamped down.
5G I don't know. I've had sensitivity to EMF's so that is real, 5G has not been a problem so far that I've noticed.
We're all going to die of something, so just keep trying to live your best.
What ever happened to Fukoshima... oh yea... it's still leaking radiationin to those fish we eat... for the next million years...
It's not a national emergency.
It's an international emergency. Correct the wording.
Our borders are (for some fucking reason) still open, they have been pretty much the whole fucking pandemic, so anyone else who's fucking up is by proxy fucking us up as well because we're stupid and our Prime Minister is a fucking moron.
There are PLENTY of idiots still. I had a flame war with one in the comments section of a post a little while ago and his absolute fucking stupidity and insistence on not vaccinating because it's his right to choose and no one has dominion over him just got too much for me, I dropped my piece and blocked the fucker and left. I hope these dumb fucking morons all die.
At least then we can cull the dumbest fucking weakest links and finally obtain herd immunity like we should've a year ago. stupid fuckin' idiots.
The SARS2 COVID-2 pandemic is serious... and affects people in the entire world. Governments and the media spend a lot of time and money telling us how bad it is. They don't tell us that less than 2% of the people who contract COVID die. Look at the US figures... 50 million infections, 800 thousand deaths... that 1.6 deaths for every hundred people infected.
Don't get me wrong, many people are dying from COVID in the world. But many more are surviving. Instead of being a negative naysayer, let's be positive. It's something we are all going to have to live with for the foreseeable future anyway.
Nope, it’ll kill ya.
For those that say that the government is chipping you, an RFID chip would not be effective as it is so short range AND you carry, and pay for, a phone that tracks you everywhere.
For those that say God will protect you, He did by giving you a vaccine but don’t expect personal attention from God as you lost that when thrown out of the Garden of Eden.
For those that say it’s overblown, take a tour of the morgue or talk to people with first hand experience.
For those that say those people had other conditions… yep, and now they are dead ☠️ So many would be alive if they didn’t get Covid as the last straw to other conditions.
It's not even fucking real. All you need to do is research the PCR test. It does not diagnose a virus. They are looking at exosomes which are dead cells and calling them viruses. We all have exosomes in our bodies and the PCR test tests for those not viruses. This is documented facts but since you only care about fake politics and your side winning the argument you refuse to do any research. Covid is just whatever someone is sick with. Pneumonia fucked people up before 2020 it still exists but now when someone is in bad shape they diagnose it as covid.

>new "variant" comes out
>lockdowns to combat "virus"
>new booster from big pharma overlords
>some die from side effects
>begin to relax a bit
>new "variant" comes out
Yes, what other outbreak of such an insignificant magnitude has forced us to lock down and shut down the economy like this? This is clearly a ploy to make big pharma rich.
I am for vaccinations in general but when you start trying to mandate shit that is a hard NOPE from me.
These restrictions are comparable to telling people they cannot have sex during the AIDS epidemic. The government has no place restricting our freedoms like this and attempting to create medical apartheid.
How many million Americans is it worth shutting down temporarily for?
There are hardly any lockdowns any more, and (you won't remember this), in the 1980s the mainstream media started talking about sex, and safe sex, and condoms. That was the equivalent of masks today, and a massive change in attitudes.
It’s a mix definitely the omicron variant is over blown the delta and alpha is over blown for healthy people and young people for the elderly and people with pre-existing conditions is dangerous, It unfortunately depends on who you are and your personal health. I’m relatively healthy it’s out of the bad habit of smoking but I’m likely not going to die from it so it just depends on who you are it’s not a conspiracy and it’s no longer a national emergency given what we know now about the virus
But healthy people are dying. You just haven’t personally seen it…
https://youtu.be/LCcFUh_FXcI
@joeldalton No, it doesn't, because it didn't show larger particles, and it didn't show how much the masks intercepted the smaller ones. Experiments need a control group/test to be scientific. (I've also seen a video "proving" that having to re-load a gun doesn't affect fire rate much, except the magazines were easily grabbable, and, more importantly, the guy pulled the trigger more quickly when he had to re-load than in the "control" attempt.)
@joeldalton https://youtu.be/CmC0h819OV8
@Stoner710 according to @goaded This isn’t scientific because you didn’t show that people wearing no masks exhale the same amount of breath, lol.
@goaded https://youtu.be/xHhkfmN9gZk regular vaping
@joeldalton It's nice to know you pay attention to what I say, and unsurprising to see that you didn't bother watching the video which starts with her with no mask, and goes on to show how all real masks have an effect, and double-layer cotton, medical and N95 (FFP2 in Germany) masks work really well.
@goaded I can tell you beat molecules are way way bigger than Covid molecules. There’s only two things you can do lock us down forever or except the fact that this is endemic are you going to quit your job are you going to let the government rule your life or are you going to accept real risks to life I probably have had Covid no symptoms whatsoever I probably had delta I probably had original and frankly I probably had The new one, it’s not gonna stop me from living my life your head live your life in fear wear your mask that does not work go ahead but your trust in government which is responsible for the number one cause of death in the 20th century I choose to live my life without fear bringing on Covid if you’re really the God that you pagan worshipers fear I don’t believe in you I’m not afraid of you kill me go ahead
@goaded if masks reduce the spread why are New York and New Jersey the epicenters for Covid and they’ve been masked up since March of 2020 masks don’t work the vaccine doesn’t work everything the government has tried to do to fight Covid has failed miserably, government can’t protect you from Covid and they never will
You might have missed Florida overtaking the number of deaths in New York over the last 18 months? Half of New York's deaths were by mid-May 2020, half of Florida's in the ten months since mid February 2021, by which time it was understood that masks worked, treatments were no longer just guesses, and vaccines had even started to be administered. DeSantis just didn't want to follow the evidence.
There is a third way (actually a second, because nobody ever said everybody will be locked down forever). It's the one that's being recommended: increase restrictions as needed to keep the level of new infections and hospitalisations at a manageable level (with leeway in case of a return to exponential growth), while vaccinating as many people as possible to allow restrictions to be lifted.
Governments manage risks by implementing restrictions, like saying what side of the road everyone's going to drive on, set speed limits, and so on.
Why do people keep trying to paint others who are willing to accept restrictions in order to save lives as "afraid"? They're not, they're just sensible.
Regarding the covid molecule size thing, they're apparently 100nm in diameter, which is the lowest size that FFP2/N95 masks are required to filter out 95% of particles. When you breathe out, the virons are usually in a droplet of water which is naturally larger. One thing I've noticed is that they're not designed to filter oil vapour, and I wonder if vaping falls into that category.
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/.../tileshop_pmc_inline.html
@Stoner710 See how stupid is looks, calling people afraid when they're not?
@goaded Locking people out of society who decline to get an experimental medical procedure off the top of my head. Being a healthy person hiding behind a paper mask and thinking you're being helpful. Ruining your children's life by not letting them get an in-person education or socialize with their friends. Treating everyone else as a threat to your safety is absolutely mental illness.
@joeldalton You might have a point if (a) there wasn't a pandemic killing thousands of people a day, and (b) schools had actually been closed any time in the last year. Of course, you think wearing a mask, which you will insist against all logic and scientific evidence is useless, is a terrible imposition on your life.
Some reasonable people might think that having under 29,000 (New York, since June 2020) fellow citizens die is better than 58,000 (Florida), and might even be worth some small inconvenience.
It’s underblown. No one wears masks where I live anymore
No, my aun't husband and brother's old friend both died from it.
Jut some light reading… www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2106599
The entire point of it is meant to be to decrease the severity of the symptoms you experience when you contract the virus, not prevent you from contracting or spreading it, hence why countries like Gibralter, who's population is 140% vaccinated are currently experiencing a spike in cases and have cancelled Christmas
Um no it's an article about the effectiveness of the vaccine at reducing the severity of symptoms and the lasting effect as it wears off, because it doesn't prevent infections...
My link is from a reputable mainstream news source, so what's your point?
Amazing how you continue to either deliberately (or just out of sheer stupidity) miss the point but I'm not surprised considering the asinine shit you're spouting
In every newspaper that's been published for the last year and a half, in every radio broadcast made in the last year and a half, I've also talked to my General Practitioner and a few doctors and nurses sooo
It's only been since this recent booster rollout that I've seen a small group of people, you being one that have started popping up out of nowhere claiming it prevents infection
Please just research it…here’s an easy to follow guide from the CDC:
www.cdc.gov/.../work.html
@Aurora1010 they died from something but when they call fucking everything covid that is not proof that the "virus" is real.
Well you think you are one because you watch the fucking news. I am not one but the guy who actually created the PCR test said it was not designed to diagnose a virus so who are you gonna believe? CNN and Fox News or the fucking guy who created the test? He passed away before "covid" but stated that it was not meant to diagnose a virus. It looks for exosomes which are dead cells which we all have in our bodies. This is why you can be perfectly healthy and get a positive result so if the test is fake then the whole narrative falls apart. I really am not concerned with left vs right BS. I am concerned with the truth and this is all a giant lie.
It's not working though! Didn't you hear that the WHO said to stop using the test? They are going to stop using it because of so many false positives which I don't trust the WHO at all so I am guessing this is so they can force some new BS on people. Not all scientists agree and if a scientist spilled the beans they would do it on Bitchute because the people who want covid to continue control the entire news media. Then people will say oh this guy is on Bitchute he is not credible. This is how they work. I got nothing against anybody who believes different than me but I know this was all planned and the flu does not just disappear. They said in 2020 that the flu cases dropped because people were wearing masks but covid cases were on a rise because people weren't wearing masks. That is impossible.
@PapiMijo sorry buddy more research on your end would help…
www.reuters.com/.../fact-check-who-released-guidance-on-proper-use-of-tests-it-did-not-admit-pcr-tests-showed-inflated-infection-numbers-idUSKBN2A429W
In some ways it is and others it isn’t.
I feel like a lot of political figures and/or entities have used COVID for their own agendas.
I don’t think they legitimately care about people’s lives.
I think they care about furthering their narrative and at the same time drowning out opposing narratives, thoughts, conversations, or viewpoints.
the omegatron virus brought down the marvel universe so i think it will kill ours as well
Gee, given the double talk from you in the left Establishment, why are you surprised we don't believe you anymore?

No. It has done a great job of increasing wealth for the 1% while limiting opportunities for the middle class. Majority of people are stupid so as long as the news keeps telling people what to think and it fits w/ their beliefs they will continue to fall for this nonsense. For me I hope they continue Covid forever it's been great for me both personally and financially.
Neither. It's bull to the shit. Feeling controlled and somehow still lucky enough to survive this atrocity? (totally not marked as covid) Well welcome to stage 3! Watch as mandates battle with the supreme court and other districts throughout the United States!
It’s not a qanon thing but why is America investigating wuhan? I say the world should investigate Bc it could’ve been an accident that let it out but like the place has to be treated like it should. The people there have been eating animals for the longest time so like that’s rare to get an illness
Covid is basically the flu maybe slightly worse. It's certainly not something we needed to ahut down our entire society over. If you people panic over a virus with a 99.997% survival rate god help us when we get something serious that kills like 1in3
P, ease stop parroting right wing shit on YouTube and do some research.
https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/data/mortality
And you should stop believing left wing talking points. A death toll of 1.6% is still insignificant. And let's look at these stats from the CDC. data.cdc.gov/.../9bhg-hcku?mobile_redirect=true
As you can see the majority of deaths are among the 65 and older crowd. So yeah if your an old retire lock yourself up. As for the rest of us we have shit to do.
Lol I got those stats from the CDC not John's Hopkins. Even so John Hopkins is still a better source than the Chinese run world Healthcare organization
Covid is an experiment used to strike Fear into us and easily control us, covid is an advancement in the NWOs agenda 21 goal
And it worked better than they could have ever expected.
Your government
Who passed a mask mandate, you dolt
Maybe it is neither of those? The Omnicron variant won't bring the economy to a halt. Vaccines are effective. And even more effective with the booster.
every 3 months, lol.
@joeldalton Every three months what?
for your booster schedule.
@joeldalton OH, I just got it!!! So you think that as different companies come out with boosters, you are supposed to take each booster.
Wow!!!
Dude, if a person takes the moderna vaccine, they should only take the moderna booster. And no other booster. That's it.
You are absolutely terrifyingly. I mean to not understand that basic point. . . wow!!!
@joeldalton Dude, I live in America. What you guys do in the UK is none of my business. Boris Johnson claimed this was a national emergency, etc. I have no idea about how the UK is going about administering its vaccination program.
In the U. S. we have our vaccines and each with its own specific booster. If your government has your shooting up every three months. That's on you and your government.
I'm not in the UK, but if you think the US won't try this nonsense you've had your head in the sand for the past two years.
@joeldalton Wait a minute. Dude, why post me a article from the UK?
We have our vaccine program.
You can shit any conspiracy theory you want. But those are the facts.
You do not mix boosters. And only the vaccine makers will make a booster for the vaccine they created.
Period.
@RolandCuthbert Dude. It was a conspiracy theory back last winter that there would be vaccine mandates.
The point is you're already on the hook for 2 boosters over your two shots and you think that's completely normal.
@joeldalton Lying, again? The UK has said you can get your *first* booster shot just three months after being fully vaccinated (rather than six), because of the new variant. Nobody has had two boosters. There wouldn't be any need for vaccine mandates if there weren't idiots like you. For some reason, they thought that people would want to protect themselves, family, and neighbours. Silly them, that kind of thinking is so last decade!
@joeldalton What are you even talking about? There is no national vaccine mandate. States, local jurisdictions can do what they choose.
You anti-vaxxers have lost your minds. When this nation came together, it formed a constitution that prohibits the government from making a national vaccine mandate. But any state can decide if it wants a state-wide mandate. That is not only permitted, is it the guiding principle the Constitution is built upon.
Texas has no vaccine mandate. The Federal government cannot overrule it either way.
My anti-vax friend, your ignorance is dangerously malignant.
You are on the hook for one shot of J&J with one booster.
Or two shots of Moderna and one booster.
Or two shots of Pfizer and one booster.
Take your pick.
But stop lying.
@RolandCuthbert I'll choose no shots and no boosters. I am recovered from covid and do not need them.
@joeldalton You can choose whatever you wish dude. Just stop whining.
Who's whining? I'm not getting blood clots from a shot.
@joeldalton Dude, at this point you are just shitting out your mouth.
Nothing you say makes any sense, much less an argument supporting the claim we have to take boosters every three months.'
ok, we'll see. CDC already announced your 2nd booster for immuno compromised... guess what will be next.
@joeldalton Dude, just do your voo-doo dance and pray to the sun-god. Then burn some incense, you know. . . like you folks do.
Call the psychic friends network.
They do that blood clot thing for you!
@joeldalton And dude, don't forget. Try a good blood-letting.
That will get those clots right out of you, then wash all of that down with some trump branded bleach.
@RolandCuthbert The guy praying to Lord Fauci mocking voodoo is peak hilarity.
People exploit disasters for personal & financial gain. And other people are driven by fear that clouds their judgment. Simple. Overblown? Yes. Conspiracy? Maybe, don't care. Real? Obviously.
People get sick from many causes.
Some live.
Some die.
Why is Covid more of a problem then other illnesses?
If Americans weren't such lard asses, Covid would be less of a problem.
800k lard asses
It's causing republicans to off themselves en masse. So it can't be all that overblown.
It was a serious emergency. Ironically, we're over the hump of it now, and the powers that be are reacting to Omicron like they should have reacted to the initial outbreak.
Different PTB, and we can only hope.
Even the Daily Mail (a UK right-wing, questionable source) says: "Donald Trump deliberately undermined the COVID response to focus on the election, blocked CDC briefings, didn't want people to wear masks and ignored advice so Americans could go back to church and sing in choirs, Congress report states"
www.dailymail.co.uk/.../...gress-report-finds.html
Well, we are. The latest data on Omicron is actually great, even though it will still kill people, it will be far less lethal over all. The speed it moves may mean that the death figures remain the same (roughly) for a short time but it will burn through the population faster.
(e. g. 10,000 infections a week, 2% mortality, and 100,000 infections a week with 0.2% mortality, both amount to 200 deaths, but the second one moves through the population 10 times faster.)
The numbers are irrelevant, I was just showing an example.
It's got a solid foothold in the UK already, and the number of new cases yesterday was 93,000, starting from a baseline of 30-40,000 a day over the last couple of months, which was killing about 100 a day. In a couple of weeks, we'll start to see how many people die of the new variant, but even if it's a lower rate, it will be of far higher numbers.
Look at the up-tick over the last couple of days:
www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/uk/
@goaded Yes. it's got a foothold. It is 70 times more transmissible.
It is still a milder variant though. 100% of delta hospitalisations required oxygen, where as with omicron it's closer to 10%. .
Assuming what you say is true, if the number of people getting it doubles every 3 days, that just means that the number of people on oxygen will take 10 days longer to reach the same figure as if they all had Delta. And the maximum number of hospital beds and staff can't increase exponentially.
Unless the NHS can cope with the whole population who aren't immune getting it at the same time, it's something to worry about. It's not over yet.
@goaded I said people are gonna to die. It's just better than Delta but we'll get a bunch of deaths up front.
@goaded It is if it means we get it all over with.
Not necessarily. I don't know what the magic number of hospital capacity is, but I know it's a constant.
"10,000 infections a week, 2% mortality, and 100,000 infections a week with 0.2% mortality, both amount to 200 deaths, but the second one moves through the population 10 times faster." All very well, unless your hospitals can only manage the effect of 20,000 new infections a week (or even 99,000).
You also missed out exponential growth from your hypothetical numbers.
What's actually happening is new cases in the UK were pretty much constant for Delta, each new case being balanced by one person recovering (or dying). Hospitals are strained, but can manage.
Omicron infections are doubling in numbers every few days. Even if hospitals could cope with three times the cases they have been, and one tenth the number of infected need hospitalisation (made up figures, of course, but that's 30x "safer" than Delta), that's only five doublings or a couple of weeks before the hospitals are overwhelmed, and the mortality rate goes through the roof.
It would be great if this turns out to be almost a natural, self-administering vaccine, but I don't think it's a good idea to assume it. Wait and see.
@goaded It isn't a pyramid scheme. Stop pretending like there's an infinite amount of people for the exponential growth to get.
Even the UK's own worst case scenario has only 50% of the population getting infected. This will burn through the population quickly. That is a good thing.
The issue won't be an overwhelmed NHS, it will be if BoJo insists that infected people isolate for 10 days.
@goaded That's not gonna happen. But if it did, you'd see about 300,000 requiring treatment, 30,000 would require some sort of oxygen. There wouldn't be enough resources and you'd see something like 50,000 to 60,000 deaths.
But like I said - not gonna happen.
There's a middle ground between, "Conspiracy" and "National Emergency" and that's where covid sits.
But that wouldn't give him the answer he wants. He wants to set up a false dichotomy so he can strawman everyone who disagrees with him.
@BrosephBrostar Damn! I’ve been discovered! (Smoke bomb)
It is act of war by the Communist Chinese. They engineered it in Wuhan.
Well, I would not call it an act of war on their part as much as a colossal foul up on their part, a biological Chernobyl so to speak. The amount of dead Red Chinese is still not being honestly reported. If it had been deliberate on their part, it would have been unleashed upon the Tibetans and Uighurs and Hui and others the Red China regime does not like, not in the middle of Wuhan, where the majority Han Chinese live.
But it came out of their lab in Wuhan.
@Curmudgeon has that been proven? I haven’t seen anything pointing to that? Just racism.
@oddbememe is a good dupe.
@OddBeMe You are in a deep hole (all the way to Red China? ). Stop digging:

@Curmudgeon You are aware your links don’t show evidence right? It just reports interest in the “lab leak theory”. Which I agree with…and asked you about.
800,000+ dead Americans disagree with the idea that its "overblown"
IMHO, COVID is a problem but the government doesn't need to make everyone paranoid or over-hype the situation. The virus isn't going to stop until everyone on the planet has been infected with some variant.
It's a problem but not worth anywhere near a response we have had. We somehow lived with polio since the beginning of time and didn't spend the entire time locked into our homes.
Yes, because as of 2021, anti-vaxxer refers to people who are against the vaccine mandates. Obviously, if there weren't any mandates to begin with, there wouldn't be any anti-vaxxers to oppose them.
Even if we refer to the 2015 version of anti-vaxxer, people who oppose vaccines as a whole, have been laughed out of the room by both sides of the spectrum as much as people laughed at those who participated in the Satanic Panic in the 80s. So I doubt many people existed in the time the polio vaccine was released either.
@goaded OK where's the strawman? All I said is that our ancestors will probably call us pussies for at least desiring to give the government power to tell everyone what we should be doing with our own lives all because of a disease that is no real threat to you unless you already have a foot in the grave. Compared to diseases that have always been around that are far more serious like one that can paralyze you from the neck down if caught, covid barely holds a candle to those and yet we never locked down.
History has shown time and time again why that is a horrible idea and you only need to look at what the other countries are doing to see what I mean. If you are fine with what they are doing, do everyone a favor and move there because those who paid attention in history class want nothing to do with this.
That comic agrees with your "I think we would all benefit by applying the most charitable interpretations to people we disagree with", or at least gives a name to the opposite.
Polio was beaten by vaccines, which continued to work over decades because it doesn't evolve as quickly as flu or coronaviruses.
Why no lockdowns? "Poliovirus is usually spread from person to person through infected fecal matter entering the mouth". That's a bit different from airborne, don't you think?
@goaded It's not airborne but it's a disease that can still spread from person to person so quarantining is still an effective measure if you genuinely don't care about that person's mental health.
https://www.cdc.gov/polio/what-is-polio/index.htm
@goaded You dare question the CDC? If you were on YouTube, Google would be on your ass about that.
The CDC says it's by contact from person to person so I assume it includes people who touch people haven't washed their hands after using the bathroom.
FDR had Polio so I guess you thought he was caught literally eating shit.
We're not freaking out, it's simple maths. If hospitals get filled up with covid patients, lots of people will die (not just of covid: car accidents, heart attacks, cancer) because they can't get care. It makes perfect sense to spend a little time to see what effect new variants really have before saying they don't matter, especially when they spread as quickly as Omicron.
Yeah until it reaches Spanish flu level it's way overblown for me. And what's this crap about 5g? 😂
I don't think it's a conspiracy but it's definitely overblown.
Damn what an idiotic post made by a libtard who loves being controlled by the government. Majority disagree with you in the polls lmao
Figure it ouuuuuut
it is real and it is a true emergency but i have to say that the media all media does make us even more crazed about what is going on too.
Why don't you have an option for overhyped? It's real but it ain't the black plague like the media makes it out to be. If that virus was here, we'd all be dead.
It's a dangerous disease for sure, but the policy response has been a disastrous mess and has gone way too far. So in that sense, yes it is overblown.
Given that everyone was initially told once they're vaxxed the masks can come off AND given that we're all about to be declared unvaxxed again regardless, I'm inclined to disagree. Politicians are doing what they do--attempting to remove any check on their ability to control. It's not a great situation.
First off--the issue is with policy makers--not scientists. They can make mistakes, BUT they do have to have errors that go in both directions. When it always only goes one way, you know something is wrong. And when mistakes are never admitted it's not generally a good idea to hand over more control.
Punish China for killing millions of people on purpose.
You’re the one who still wears a mask, aren’t you.
I know you're a liar. You have a court order that forbids you from being around children.
I know exactly what you are.
Its real it a Pandemic come on
Covid wasn't deadly enough.
Change my mind.
See that makes the news because the young dying of Covid is very rare.
It should have been the opposite and I understand that includes me too. If people had an actual tragedy of a pandemic on their hands they wouldn't be using the virus as a political tool.
Its serious
Always has been
