The smirking teen got hundreds of millions of dollars of "justice." What about Jan. 6th? VOTE!

To me, there is noting more important than paying hundreds of millions of dollars to a teen who was caught smirking on camera.

In my opinion, finding out why January 6th turned into a deadly riot at the Capitol is more important than the smirking teen.

The question is the fallacy of the false alternative. Those who have been involved in January 6th have gone to prison. In the case of the Covington boy, he sought redress that, in legal terms, would "make him whole." He got that. Justice was served.

In the case of the Covington boy, see my response to this question: Is the Covington kid the most undeserving millionaire ever? Suffice to add that there would have been consequences both for Mr. Sandmann and for the broader media had the issue his situation not been addressed.

As to January 6th. So far a number of those who participated have been convicted for illegal trespass and other similar violations. The fact that, as the FBI report noted, that there was no evidence that January 6 was a conspiracy but was rather a "spontaneous event" - i. e. a riot - has meant that the charges and convictions were less worthy of headlines. That is to say, if a riot in the nation's capital were not considered sufficiently noteworthy. However, either way, justice has been done and in the January 6 case will continue. The fact that does not sate the passions of the partisans does not make it any less just. The only question remaining being the investigation of President Trump himself, who seems to have been slow to ask the rioters to stop, though again, at least based on the FBI report, there does not appear to have been a pre-planned conspiracy.

Congress is looking into the matter of President Trump, but given the partisan divides, it is not apt to reach a conclusion that will satisfy anyone. Not to mention the fact that if President Trump was slow to respond, that is deplorable but not criminal.

In any case, as noted, the question is fallacious in its premise. To have left either issue unaddressed would have been grotesquely unjust. As it is, Mr. Sandmann's issue has been addressed and the January 6 event is being addressed. The fact that does not satisfy the partisans hardly amounts to injustice. Indeed, if anything, it suggests the degree to which these issues have been justly handled.

You make nice, obvious points while at the same time, missing the point. Keep in mind the investigation into January 6th will most likely be squashed if Republicans take over Congress in a year. This poll is intended to gauge how people feel about two politically inspired events. If it helps encourage those who care about things that actually matter to not to sit on their asses (like Trump did for three hours during the insurrection) when the midterm elections roll around, all the better. We will get stuck with a bunch of liars who are willing to put democracy in jeopardy if we allow them to minimize the evil that Trump and his cultists were up to, not just on January 6th, but all of those MONTHS that Trump and his gang spent lying that the ONLY way he could possibly lose is by a "rigged election.". The smirking teen incident reached and will continue to reach a conclusion. Will the investigation into January 6th reach a conclusion though? Let's not help to whitewash what happened or create a murkiness by a series of well-written paragraphs. OK? Thanks! :)

First, it is not clear what will become of the January 6 investigation. Media interest itself began to decline after the FBI issued its report.

In any event, with inflation, Afghanistan and all the rest, the country is not apt to focus on January 6. It also not being clear why the January 6 investigation is the hinge on which democracy turns. (Why does no one recall the episode in 1954 when terrorists sprayed the House chamber with bullets, wounding several Members? Did that not have ramifications for democracy, or is it only those episodes that suit our biases?)

No matter, you have loaded up a lot of suppositions on the back of your political preferences. I was no fan of Mr. Trump, but in any context that episode was hardly the apocalyptic event you imagine it to be.

Oh it wasn't? We haven't seen the conclusion of this yet, Mr. Crystal Ball. If there are no consequences to Trump and his buddies in Congress and former President Clown gets to run again in 2024, he will declare himself the winner regardless of the vote tallies, if history is any guide. But THIS time, he may have the people in place to make his 2020 cheating failures a success in 2024. You know this is a real concern. So kindly stop with the whitewash. OK, friend?

So please, then, lay out the scenario by which it would have brought the Republic down. Keeping in mind, before you do, that the country has seen its Capitol burnt do the ground. That it experienced - and held together - a civil war in which more Americans killed each other than in both world wars combined. That experienced the aforementioned shooting in the House chamber in 1954. That survived the utter collapse of the economy in 1930 and the resulting extremism that followed.

Given that those events did not bring down the democracy, how pray tell would a group of rioters, with no plan - as revealed by the FBI investigation - and no organizational structure, and no weapons to speak of - would this event have ended the democracy.

(Also, as an aside, do you believe that the Clinton campaign and the infamous dossier should be investigated by Congress - currently the majority refuses to do so - given the revelations of the Durham investigation? After all, if the democracy is as fragile as you allege, then certainly the dossier and the impeachment that it inspired have very sinister and grim implications.)

This I will agree with you to this extent - the republic is fragile, but not because of rioters in Viking hats nor dossiers. Rather because of a poorly educated citizenry that allows its wishes to be the father to its thoughts and thus is ruled by mere emotion rather than historical analysis.

Justice for January 6th is about punishing the liars who spent months casting doubt on the results of the election and encouraging their cultish buffoons to fight to take back their country. You know this. Enough. Trump should never be allowed to run for president ever again. And if the impeachment vote was done privately, the pussies would have voted that clown down. All those statements about Trump being responsible suddenly changed once the pitchforks and torches and death threats flowed against McCarthy, Graham, etc.

Cameras caught the ridiculous, extended smirk on camera and the news implied that the rowdy teens and their smirking buddy were being disrespectful and mocking the gentleman. But then there was blowback because the teens said some gentlemen of color were the ones harassing them and there is evidence on camera of that, too.
