if you don't vote it may risk the bigger of the two evils winning, but choosing the lesser of two evils is not great either. what would you do here?

I don't vote, because I dislike voting for a "bundle"/Person who only run on their beliefs. More often than not, they barely hit 70% of what matters to me and often strongly have things I am against. I personally wish they would allow us to vote on what we believe is the most important to us as a nation (so essentially vote on the issues) and then elect a person who we believe will follow through on what we voted for. (as opposed to voting for what they personally or as a group believe). So this would essentially force politicians to run how we desire, as opposed to having a hodgepodge of various positions.
The fact we have essentially a 2 party system doesn't help at all and only further polarizes the country. Also several people believe "if you didn't vote for A (or vote at all), you voted for B", which is a major falacy and further frustrates me against getting involved.
Vote for the lesser of two evils. At least then you took a stand. Doing nothing is the same as permitting evil to act.
Reminds me of this: Winston Churchill once said that: “democracy is the worst form of government – except for all the others that have been tried.”Yes voting systems can fail, and they will. But the alternative is not having any influence at all. I vote what is closest to my opinion, because finding something that is my opinion would only work if I do politics myself. I have to life with their errors, but at least I can vote different when they change to the worse. A direct democracy would work best in my opinionlbut that doesn't mean it has no errors either.
Winston Churchhill is a fucking moron he was talking out of his ass on a topic he was not educated in and does not know what he was talking about and people keep repeating what he said as if its gospel 🤦🤦🤦
@vald9inches how so?
Our founding fathers hated the thought of a Democracy and did everything that they could do to prevent one form happening in the United States. Thank God they gave us a Constitutional Republic.
Here it's you vote for either one of the major parties and if you don't like either, you vote for a smaller party, at least that way they could get a seat and potentially influence the decisions being made. Not voting is fine, just don't complain about the government.
sounds excellent. wish we had that here lol

I choose C, none of the above, because it's pointless. Right now, we're stuck with two camps of people, voting for two candidates from two parties that are less than optimal because we keep asking "what is the least terrible outcome?" This appeal to negation does not answer the fundamental question, "what is the ideal candidate trying to accomplish, what does the result of their policy look like, and how practical is it to implement?" Then you need to ask "what conditions would bring this about?"
You cannot get "good politicians" (whatever your idea of "good" is) into positions of authority until you have a clear roadmap, rather than vague promises, or even a desire to spite-vote for a politician simply because they aren't someone else.
Never voted, never gonna so. So already have not do so and will carry on not doing so. Since a lot of my morals line up with south parks points, there is a clear message in one of them where stan don't want to vote. And overall agreed with stan and the point of the episode.
do you care about the fate of your country? if you don't i respect it.
I care about it. But a giant douche and a turd sandwich overall impact the fate of the country more or less the same, apart from extreme examples but that's a dictator which honestly with how much information is in a 1st word country I am not sure one could be a dictator. Since that highly involves cutting off outside information and making it seem great. But I feel like a lot of people would be pissed off at just one sight of them trying to restrict us going on wifi lol.
But who knows that's a whole other topic tbf but I just don't feel like i need to worry about what current leaders are doing in my country because there just turd sandwiches and giant douches, not highly functioning hitler's.
Also if it was a hitler type I wouldn't be able to vote ageist him anyway at that point. Because he would do things to make sure he wins no matter what so at that point it becomes mute to vote against him. And becomes more time to start a full on Anti-fascist group to start a war upon him. So I still wouldn't have to vote lol.
I did learn about all this stuff when I was six to seven years old... and by the time I was 8 years old I decided that I would never vote in politics' elections... and I never ever have, since
my main reasoning was more simple though... you are supposed to vote for the party or the system that represents you... and none of them has ever done that for me, so I just don't vote... lol
I choose to vote for the lesser of the two evils, hoping that the next go around there will be somebody I can support. By voting for the lesser evil, I believe "my candidate" would then have less of a mess to clean up.
When you're only choice is to vote for the "lesser of two evils" , I don't really consider that much of a choice... Some people don't want to choose evil at all... And I find it funny, that now people that voted for Biden are complaining about him as a president, but you voted him in, so🤷🏼♀️ and that's what's wrong with voting for the lesser of two evils
Voting for the lesser of two evils. I haven't really been FOR the candidate I voted for since Obama.
And Obama was incredibly evil!!!
@fireforeffect Bush and trump too
Neither as bad as Obama.
@fireforeffect no they are bad... worse even.
@fireforeffect lmao I want whatever you're smoking if you think Obama was worse than Bush
I got rid of him. he's likely a conserva-troll lol
Lol good
I will vote the option which I like. Let's be logical, we are supposed to raise out our opinions not help the weak to win.
if you don't like either option would you refuse to vote?
so yeah i can't agree with that. unless you have a voting system that is not "first past the post" (see video to understand) then not voting risks letting the bigger of two evils taking power. not sure how your elections work in India.
while it might feel nice to vote be principled in who you vote for or not, in this type of voting system it can be potentially devastating.
well do you have 'first past the post' voting there?
what that is basically is voters cast their vote for a candidate of their choice, and the candidate who receives the most votes wins (even if the top candidate gets less than 50%, which can happen when there are more than two popular candidates).
there are other types that are a bit different
At the current state of politics, both major parties are equally evil, plus the last presidential election DNC didn't want my vote during the primaries, so I'm either a no vote for 3rd party vote next election.
and i think thats a fools errand in itself to
a no vote is still a 'vote' in my eyes
Might be so, but the last 2 democratic primaries caused me to lose all faith in the Democratic party, and this past presidential primary gave me the push I needed to leave a party I didn't feel welcomed in. In the 2020 primary participated in 3 DNC sanctioned polls that were debate qualifying polls,, and all three were rigged. All three pollsters had a list of candidates they read from, and all three list were missing candidates. When I questioned the one pollster about candidates missing from the list, they claimed they were all listed, then when I pushed them on the subject, they gave the excuse those candidates were no longer in the race even tho they were. The other 2 pollsters, the one hung up the second I mentioned my candidate and the other was very stern I wasn't allowed to choose my candidate and had to choose one from the list, and when I refused to choose one from the list, they basically told me to F off they didn't want my vote.
yes i understand the frustration at this point
but elections now aren't about doing what you feel is right but now about what is necessary for your deomocracy to survive and not completely devolve into fascism which is what the republicans seem to be pushing in ful l force with people like marjorie taylor green or madison cawthrorne. a no vote only helps their cause and can destroy us.
so i say for now vote blue no matter who to save the democracy and later we can sort them all out.
I voted to keep the bigger evil from being elected in past elections, only because the candidates I liked weren't the front runners and I just felt one cockbag was more twisted and corrupt than the other.
False premise. You can vote without choosing an evil. Write in the person you think would do the best job.
Thats kinda throwing your vote away im our voting system. The equivalent of voting third party
Nope cause at that point its not about integrity its about survival. Go with the one that keeps you alive at least.
Voting third party in a “first past the post” voting system just splits up what the majority wants
If the majority is stupid enough to to choose the lesser of two evils when there's another option, then we're all screwed anyway. I don't care about what the majority wants, I want a President who'll actually be good for us, and that's how I'll vote. If everybody else would do the same, we wouldn't be stuck voting for the smaller sack of shit
ok well you will still suffer the consequences anyways even if you don't vote.
it is on you, its on all of us who live in that society because you failed to vote for the lesser sack of shit.
but you still suffer the consequences dude lol. you don't get it
im sure the ones who didn't vote in1933 in the Weimar Republic for Hitler also felt just as 'principled' as you do.. especially later on when people started being forced into camps and such...
You fail at logic so hard lol 😂
Your version of "logic" has produced the failure that our government has become. You're all just lemmings choosing which cliff to jump off of, and then you're gonna tell me that because you're gonna push me off anyway, I'm a fool for not choosing to jump?
If we were to all choose who we thought would be GOOD for the nation instead of voting for who we're told, we'd have a chance. As it stands, because of your "logic", the U. S. is going to continue to fail. And yet you stand proud and defend it
You still suffer the consequences in that society whether you vote or not… you get that right?
Absolutely! Because of the idiocy of the general populous, we're all going to fail. It's always been that way. And there's always been above-and-beyond idiots who think that anyone who doesn't voluntarily join in to that idiocy is at fault, rather than demanding that the idiots wise up.
No one is worth my vote. I keep it to my self, just like i keep my political opinion too. I do my job and pay my taxes ans the politics will fuck everything up no matter what
There are always the third party candidates like the Green Party and the libertarian party to consider as well so this doesn’t apply very well to politics.
I definitely vote for the lesser of the two evils because the bigger one will destroy us all. Unless both sides are equally villainous. Like in the case of Hillary vs. Trump.
Not voting is voting as well - the way I see it.
I just won't support anyone who's not the way I'd want it.
In case that the wrong guys ''win'' - well: there's still civil disobedience, isn't it.
I would vote 3rd party candidate or not vote at all. I find it difficult to vote for someone I don't believe in.
But not voting risks allowing the greater evil being elected and destroying your country even worse.
Isn't that a personal perspective?
Who I believe to be more evil may not be the same for someone else because we vote on issues that affects us personally and we all face different issues . What happens if we underestimate the 'lesser of two evils' and he/she turns out to be more evil when voted into office? There isn't any guarantees. We vote on hope most of the time.
My view is that we hold all elected officials to a high standard when they get into office, whether we voted for them or not. No one should get a free pass even if you voted for that person.
Sure thats where you decide who the lesser evil is. But not voting risks the one YOU think is the greater evil taking. So why not do your part on making sure that doesn’t happen?
If we had a better voting system it would be more effective having a principled take in who to vote for or not. But in a country with ‘first past the post’ voting it just isn't a good idea to not vote.
I dont participate in that illusion until i see a person in poverty or your average person become president then i will participate
Big fan of CGP Grey nice pick
but then not voting may mean the bigger evil wins who may destroy your country or state or city even moreso. what do you say to that?
Its an illusion there is no choice and no matter who wins the country will always get worse it doesn't matter who you vote for but you do give the system more recognition and authority by participating so i would rather not participate than to recognize such a rigged and faulty system. The more you participate in their system the more power you give them to ruin your country and the rest of the world infact.
"Its an illusion there is no choice "
but not voting is also a choice and lets the bigger evil wins.
now if you don't care thats fair enough but if you do care i would call your strategy quite ill advised
Yes its choice not to participate its a choice not to recognize someone's authority or a system. But saying you have to and force yourself to choose between the lesser of two evils i say fuck that i will not give credence to such a system or thinking and will give a giant finger to them all! If told you had to choose a lesser poison to drink between the two options would you really choose and participate?
You want to talk to me about ill advised? Lmfao 😂🤣🤣🤣
thats not an adequate analogy its more like drink a potion that will kill you instantly that has a timer on it that will go off if you don't choose or drink one that won't kill you but may injure you. you can choose not to drink either of them but the more lethal one will still kill you in the end
No its more like the drinks are there with a timer but there are no chains and no one there to force you to drink it just someone there with authority to tell you that you have to choose one to drink and you will repeat this situation every 4 years or whatever until you die a slow and painful death or you could simply not recognize that persons authority and make your own system where you actually make an elixir of youth and everlasting good health!
Im sure not voting helped the folks in the weimar republic when Hitler came to power huh?
Oh i am sure he said he will make the country great again and make Germany independent and self sufficient and so many more promises lmfao
Also if nobody participated in the voting he never would have been elected right? The only reason he had power is because all the people agreed he had power and is the leader
I am sure they said it was a close presidential run 49% to 51%! Lmfao 😂🤦🤦
I mean you watched that CGP Grey video right? How can you still support such a system?
My overall point which it looks like you missed was that even thoygh there were folks in the Weimar Republic who didn’t vote tgey still had to contend with Hitler and his reign anyways.
To make an even bigger point even if you think yiu aren't participating in society you still are anyways. You must still pay taxes, you must still obey the laws created or enforced by whatever administration you didn't vote for. So not voting then risks goving leeway to the bigger evil and you will still have to contend with that evil within that society.
Now thats why i say if you dont care I respect that more because its more honest position to take here. George Carlin was a ‘watch the world burn’ type after all and is highly respected.
Or maybe if you find a way to live in the middle of the woods off grid you might avoid having to contend with your society lol.
My society off grid? What do you mean? And just because i participate in society via work and trade and all doesn't mean i have to participate in its politics until they make it law and maybe not even then. I did not miss your point about Hitler but it seemed you missed my point unless you honestly believe that most of the citizens of Germany were immoral and delusional like Hitler was? RIP George Carlin he definitely was a no bs kind of sou.
Let me ask you this. Are you familiar with the trolly problem? If so how would you behave in that situation?
Wow you seem to really not understand what im saying….
Ok lets say you dont vote in the next election. They decide to push forth a bill that will make it illegal to buy or eat your favorite food whatever it is. This bill actually passes and now you must obey this law.
Will you still obey this law despite the fact that you didn't vote for them? If you dont you get jailed. Would you go to jail over this?
It doesn't seem like i am answering any of your questions and neither are you answering any of mine so lets just agree to disagree...
It makes no difference. I live in one of the 99% of constituencies where a single vote will never change the overall result.
I've never voted but if I had two evils as an option, I would vote so I could increase the chances of the lesser evil to win.
With being female it was something that was a fight to get. I vote whenever I can.
I would vote for the lesser of two evils to prevent the bigger evil from getting elected
Unfortunately that is often the situation. But I feel voting for the lesser, may not be the best option. But is better than not voting.
My view on politicians is it is always the lesser of two evils. Professional politicians are corrupt.
If you don’t vote you have no right to complain.
Also, every decision is a vote for the lesser evil. If you’re depressed enough.
I voted for the lesser of two evils but Bidden still won... lol Had someone else been running I would have voted for them...
Both are evil if you go by those who use the word terrorism, chances are they'll cover their butt in the next election by putting up a republican to run against Joe that's just like them!
I don't vote. my faith teaches neutrality. , ore often than not--a candidate only makes empty promises and platitudes... as we see with Biden.
''more tan often'.
''more than often'. keyboard is being a bitch.
Voting for evil, is still voting for evil.
But not voting at all mean you still have to deal with evil too
If all the people not voting or voting for the lesser of two evils would vote third party, might get a valid third party started.
Perhaps but our current voting system doesn’t work for third parties unfortunately. The video i linked demonstrates a better way
Voting for the less evil is still evil
While thats true, not voting means you still have to contend with one of the evils anyways within that society. So why not make sure you do your part in making sure the bigger evil doesn't get elected and really destroys your country?
Always try to lesson the evil in the world.
*lessen (i blame chocolate fingers and audio text)
Lesser evil lmfao same thing I did last year
No voting is still voting tacitly in my opinion.
Hillary Clinton was evil incarnate.
Trump
Yeah and?
Which mess?
How does this answer the question I originally asked?
