Actually, I could not use any of your choices because, in a sense, the question is itself a false dichotomy. After all, you are dealing with human beings and human beings are imperfect creatures. So in that sense, it is ALWAYS the lesser of two evils. Yet, that does not mean that you are dealing in evils.

For example, I was born at the end of the Kennedy Administration and regard President Reagan as, by far, the best President in my lifetime. He defeated President Carter, whom I regard as the worst - well, the jury is still out on Mr. Biden, but maybe the second worst - President in my lifetime.

Yet Carter was hardly evil. His intentions were good. He had a vision of the nation that was deeply moral. It was just that the vision was too abstract, and his governing skills were weak and his grasp of policy was not what it should have been and was, in fact, mistaken in a number of aspects.

The point is, with some exceptions to be sure, you are not dealing in evil so much as imperfection and error. Indeed, the funny thing is that the last President and the current one, for all the epithets hurled back and forth between them, are pretty much the same beats.

Both subscribe to no real consistent philosophy. Both are populists, which is not so much a philosophy as an appeal to envy and resentment. The actual differences between them could be measured with a micrometer. Yet each side would have the other believe that its' opponent is evil.

Not so. Rather, they are two sides of the same coin. To which might be added that when looking to evils, the public would do well to point the finger right back at itself. The polls show that 70% of the public don't want a Biden/Trump rematch and yet no candidate on either side can gain any traction on the two incumbents. This notwithstanding primary elections and the like in which the public gets to express their views.

"The fault, dear Brutus, is not with our stars, but within ourselves." The public will blame everyone and everything for their discontents, but will not consent to the idea that their own thinking may be flawed. Thus, "two evils," and yet those evils are freely chosen by a public that then runs about, hair on fire, shouting about evils.

It's a funny old world.
