Is it really wrong for race to be a variable with black people?

“We” enslaved them?
What do you mean?
I didn’t.
If you mean the American people, then that’s wrong in my opinion. There were people that were complicit in this act, but not an entire country and certainly not the majority of people today.
To me, this doesn’t make sense in any respect, but to each his/her own
Race is a way to label people for a variety of purposes, not necessarily bad.
It’s like black hair, blue eyes, etc.
These are phenotype characteristics or noticeable/physical ones that we can notice in people.
300 years ago yet myself as a young Nigerian can come here with no education and little money and succeed.
Iono my dad is as light as me and his teachers called him the N word in school, when my grandfather married my grandmother from England in Seattle, their marriage would have been illegal in the South. You’re W African still, but doesn’t mean there is love there both ways automatically as you can see
@Justerino I'm darker than night. I escaped real poverty, real persecution. My country was occupied by European colonialists for a few hundred years. African American's problem is not whitey its African Americans...
Yeah exactly, it’s different bloodlines, a different history, I know nothing about Nigeria tbh. If they would have said Black Businesses , Black Education, and Black Families matter it would’ve sounded legit. If this isn’t too personal can I ask how you came to America, what city you ended up in and the demographics of your neighborhood?
@Justerino in Newburgh in New York state at first.
America is split into the wealthy, upper middle class, middle class and working class. There's a lot of white people living in poverty in trailers. You should try to raise the lower levels of society up based on poverty rather than race
That would be racist to exclude poor white people who basically get no help.
The only way to do it is raise the standard of living and create opportunities for all.
What I noticed was a lot of help African Americans were getting from for instance college scholarships well honestly they shouldn't have been getting them because they were coming from very affluent families anyway.

This took place over 160 years ago. There is no reason for a person's race to really come up for any reason. It should play zero role in almost any decision. A person's skill and competency, experience... etc. is all that should matter. If you are using their race as a factor in accepting or declining students... hiring a judge, executive, coach, sales rep, supervisor, art director... etc. then you are somewhat racist. I believe the photo is of the new Supreme Court nominee. There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with the nominee being a woman. There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with the candidate being black. If they were selected based on their skill and merit... GREAT! When you have the president saying well, I don't know who I'm going to pick yet... I just know I'll be picking a black woman, then you have utter racism and madness. Race shouldn't even come up.
To some... you will NEVER see minorities as anything other than victims, eternally oppressed and always needing some special assistance. Color and race is all you will ever see and to you a persons race is the most important thing. You don't see people, you don't see individuals... all you see is a person's race group and either "oppressor" or "oppressed".
You forget about the chinese that worked on the railroads, they were virtually enslaved.
Racism will never end so long as people like you keep it alive. Your continued poling at the wound only causes it to fester and divide the Nation. The end of Racism begins with you!
@fireforeffect they don't want it to end. too much special treatment and someone else to blame for everything
No special treatment should not be done.
poverty? crime?
Why don't you study the topic a bit. Those things you talk about seem to play out in Philly, Detroit, Chicago, New Orleans, St. Louis, Los Angeles, Baltimore... etc. Big urban cities. Research the structure of those cities, who has been in charge there for the last 30-40 years, What areas of town do they all live in... homes and suburbs or government housing, 2 parents or single parent homes.
Do some research. You can't just say "black" people... as if every person born black is some handicapped individual and all the conditions are the same. What goes into this poverty stat. What is going on in these inner city communities.
Special treatment. I can't believe anyone thinks that way. If you are born of a particular race... we'll give you special treatment. Wow.
Anyone black reading that comment... doesn't that sound condescending and doesn't it piss you off? These "racial do-gooders" think you are like children and aren't capable of living your life without someone holding your hand... because you know you are black so they don't think you can do anything yourself. Are you not annoyed by this mindset?
We never enslaved anyone. That was a different bunch of dickheads.
My issue is the way the world tries to make me feel guilty for people who were never my relations in anyway. I'm a Yorkshire lad whose entire family history can be traced back to just being local people with local jobs and who never owned any slave of any culture. Black history has nothing to do with me.
I have no problem with countries governement from acknowledging the past and making reparations, but stop blaming white people. I didn't make anyone poor. I'm rather poor myself.
All to often yes.
Does that mean I can ask the Scandinavians for extra funding as the Vikings enslaved my people. How far back is the cut off. Sorry to say but I don't think there should be any type of settlement anymore. I am not guilty of my fathers sins as they say, so why should my taxes go to pay settlements for people who lived more than 5 generations ago?
If black people really want to walk the talk, they will preach the color blind shit and drop the race topic.
The fact is that American blacks have a unique victim mentality while blacks from let's say Africa are not going to be so hung up on white people oppressing them at every turn supposedly.
If you are black just don't live in the Bible belt and you should be fine. I grew up with black people and they were treated just like everybody else except when the topic of rap culture came up and then they were venerated.
I won’t say all blacks…but yes humans being victimized have victim mentality. Some more than others. But double the poverty rates could do that to a community.
Again, I’m not saying current whites should feel guilty, nor current blacks be freed from guilt over any issues they have. I’m saying there’s an insurance claim that was never paid out.
And it incidentally would help our economy immensely.
You will also get discriminated against for facial tattoos or being too short. Some professions will discriminate against you if you are old or young, or if you are a male or a female.
People who can be proven to discriminate based on immutable characteristics during the hiring process should be prosecuted but ultimately it should have nothing to do with me.
really not sure how being enslaved 100+ years ago makes you poor today. You are literally generations removed. Of all the kids I went to HS with, the smart ones with high intellect who had to work hard to get ahead have done the best in life 30 years later. The spoiled kids don't seem to have worked as hard. Mostly the engineers I work with who grew up poor have become "the boss" while the ones who never had to struggle growing up... not so much. Immigrants of all races, including blacks come here with nothing but climb the socioeconomic ladder faster than whites on average. The slavery theory is a head fake. 600,000 northerners died to free the slaves, should their descendants who grew up missing a father so slaves could be freed be owed something?
Who are you a black Muslim? It was Black Muslims in Africa that took these people from their families and sold them into slavery.
The United States shed the blood of over 600,000 people in order to set them free. how high a price do you expect should be paid?
Explain that to me. How are Blacks stilled owed?
@fireforeffect Maybe explain to me how blacks were ever paid back for the free work they did. Let’s take the white noise for example. It was built by slaves. Could we find their ancestors and repay the labor exuded?
You need to answer my question first.
No, WE didn't enslave THEM. No one alive today was enslaved, and no one alive today has enslaved anyone. No one alive today is owed anything and no one alive today should pay for what others did a very long time ago.
Some of the most successful people I know are immigrants from Africa who came here with literally nothing. They faced the same challenges here that any other black Americans face, but they had a strong work ethic and a desire to make something of themselves. They took advantage of all of the financial aid and education opportunities available to black Americans, earned degrees and made successful careers for themselves. Statistics show my friends are typical of black immigrants in America, who tend to be far more successful than American born blacks. So what's the difference? Culture and attitude.
Ho do you suggest accomplishing that economic recovery?
Giving someone an important job based on their gender and color is wrong. As it happens, this woman is also qualified as far as we know - or it was all done based on favors given under the guise of affirmative action. Cannot tell really.
never made it right? They’re still slaves? And I don’t know about you but I’ve never owned a slave.
Am I a taxpayer? Or do you still think money just appears from nowhere?
So then consider the debt paid. We can stop welfare now.
You just said they did in the previous reply, dipshit.
Lol, pay churches taxes. So god damned stupid. You lefties.
Losing? Jesus Christ. Keep digging.
Yup, it is wrong.
Are any of the black in the US that are around today former slaves?
Influenced partially, sure. To let it define who you are, and to let history define what you think you should achieve? Shouldn't. If many people who have come from around the world, often times where they had nothing but the clothes on their backs, can come to the USA and achieve what they want on their own merit, then so too can black people.
Funny how people are trying to come to America and we closed the door on them.
But who said letting us define people and all that crap? I’m saying there’s a claim that needs to be paid. America benefited from free labor and we never repaid it.
And I’m not saying “Reijen has to foot the bill.” It’s actual economic benefits to decrease black poverty. So whites will still benefit.
I'm not familiar with these variable race people. Did you mean mixed race?
Sleepy Uncle Joe is a racist. It's not about justice, it's about politics.
I need to correct myself. Biden isn't a racist per se. Rather he is a politician who, like Trump, uses the race issue to motivate his perceived base. And his Supreme Court pick may be perfectly satisfactory (unlike, say, Amy Coney Barrett) but it's clearly discriminatory that he limited his pick to black females.
