I do not think they are mentally ready to and should go through required therapy to do it. Our bodies are still changing up to a certain age. They could do more damage then good, depending on when they start

if a child is even thinking "changing" their gender or going by certain pronouns, their parents have failed at raising them properly.

Can someone that young really understand enough about life to make a decision that will affect them for the rest if their life? I wonder if transitioning youth is more the parents' idea than the child's.

They are to young and have not fully developed as a individual to truly know if they need such a life changing operation. They are not capable of making these decisions till there an adult. For anyone to encourage a child to do this is in fact child abuse in my book.
They should have to wait till there 21.

When I was a kid I wanted a penis really bad, being 23 now I am so glad I don’t have a penis. Kids change their mind all the time!! When they’re an adult THEN they can transition. Our brains aren’t even developed until age 25. As a society we should protect those who are underaged and not encourage rushed thinking! If my mom actually let me get surgery to get a penis when I was like 11, I would be so fking upset right now

This is such a complex discussion because kids develop at different ages. So to have an age that that assumes they could make a decision that's best for them based on understanding the risk involved is not exactly fair either.

They should send them to therapy.

it hurts all of us. it takes female scholarships for sports. it gets women raped in prison, and it damages our culture by having everyone put pronouns on their profile creating a societal division that leads to conflict

it hurts so much it should be illegal

@007kingifrit Youd think the trans people would be the ones getting r---d as a result of them being in prison with horny women who have never seen a peen in forever. At least the ones who may not have transitioned fully down there which I shudder to even think about.

Pronouns is nothing new and has something that has been presented since before the 2000s. Well at least the notion that we as human should be referred to in a binary way ( he or she ) solely.

After doing a bit more research I do believe that one should be able to transition once they are of legal age and even then. Once they turn 21 so that they can truly feel confident that they want to transition as I still consider 18 and 19 ( I'm from the US ) as a kid when it comes to certain things.

That's all I got for this topic. y'all have at it as I'm honestly not that passionate about this topic to go further. I just want trans people to stop being targeted maliciously and killed without anyone batting an eye at it.

Seriously? That’s so insanely far off.

I can tell you right now if I was offered to serve a prison term in a women’s prison vs a men’s prison I know what I would choose. Without a doubt lock me up with the women. Sure the conniving and psychological behavior would be punishment. However the chances of getting beaten up and/or for real raped would be zero to nil. Also even though I might have to lower my standards (most female inmates aren’t exactly models) I would mind having a steady supply of vagina in jail. 99.99% of other guys would feel the exact same way.

transitioning only makes people sadder. because they are living a lie. it doesn't reduce the suicide rate of trans Even 20 years after gender reassignemtn surgery the suicide rate of a trans person is 20 times that of a normal non trans person; and this research was done in highly accepting environments journals.plos.org/.../journal.pone.0016885

@007kingifrit it’s funny how the trans movement literals defies feminism. Both movements can’t co-exist.

It’s some people are so obsessed about being “woke” that they will embrace something that’s completely counter to their own existence.

Because politics in democracy is run by sensational media narratives, which is why a few people spend so much money trying to control said narratives in culture and news.

If you think things are bad now, you should have seen what it was like before the internet. Nobody knew anything and most people believed what little they told because there was no way to know any better.

We don't let kids get tattoos for the same reason. This is doing permanent things to their bodies while they aren't old enough to make these choices. Puberty blockers and hormones during puberty are permanent treatments.

Depends what you mean by that. Do you mean they should be allowed to take hormones. Then the answer is "NO"! I don't even think parents should encourage the child's uhm..."situation". Love the child of course. That is a given. If the child reaches 18 and still feels they're a different gender, or species, or whatever. Then fine! Now they can do whatever they like.

We don't even let kids get tattoos, so why in the fuck would we let kids begin chemical and physical body modification, especially when its 80% of young supposedly trans-people turn out to just be gay and confused? Setting the age to 18 just like everything else makes perfect sense.

Transgender is a sign on a mental Illness. If your DNA says that you are a guy but you think that you are a girl you obviously have mental Problems. You need mental help not hormones or Surgery which is Permanent, which ends up causing more suicides.

So if your gonna complain about not being able to transition, you also need to complain about the 18 plus tattoo age limitKids can't make choices for themselves

No, it's Child Abuse, kids are confused at that age and can easily be due to Peer Pressure. Any parent (s) who gives their kid permission to cut their genitals off simply because they feel like it isn't qualified to be a parent. These are the crazy times we live in.

I don't care if they can't either though because being boy or girl won't change our friendship, men aren't the only ones who wear pants. Only reason I would is because free drinks as a girl

@SahmDhude The difficulty involves "responsibility" being a loaded term. To a father in a cult, it may be his "responsibility" to ensure that he physically examines his daughter's virginity. The idea that parents should be able to impart their values to their children comes from the idea that their kids are "theirs", and it's unreasonable for anyone to tell anyone else how to raise their kids.

Treating your child as someone different by default allows for a healthier and less controlling outlook.

According to law, age of majority is 18, and many legal choices cannot be made by minors, to include VOLUNTARY COSMETIC surgery. No, no one under age of majority is capable of making voluntary surgery choices.

Oh, De Santis made transgender kids illegal? God bless this man. It's a good start. He needs to make ALL trannies illegal outright, no matter their age.

you need to have some maturity before you can do things like own a gun, drive a car or cut off your pecker. makes sense to me. 21 would be even better as you still don't have any sense at 18.

I think it's damn right logical. YOU THINK at 16 year old's brain in OKAY? First of all if you are trans then you are mentally ill and should go to the doctor so he can give you a special pill.

At 16 the kid brain and body are in a state of flux, The body will largely finish around 18-20 depending on sex, the brain won't finish until about 25.

90% of kids who think their gay end up straight both, their bodies just needed a little more time to finish. It is child abuse akin to letting your kid play in the busy street to let a doctor do this to them at that age.

I support the bill, kids should only transition before 18 with the consent of both parents and only after puberty.

And I'm being nice there, because I'm usually against cosmetic procedures in kids.

nobody can decide basic facts about themselves. besides gender reassignment surgery doesn't make them happier or lower their suicide rates. it's a false promise of happiness. it should be banned for all ages

Even 20 years after gender reassignemtn surgery the suicide rate of a trans person is 20 times that of a normal non trans person; and this research was done in highly accepting environments journals.plos.org/.../journal.pone.0016885

Sorry, no, children are not mentally equipped enough to make that choice. I support the bill. Children whose parents push transitioning on them should be locked up if not given the death penalty for child abuse.

right because every 14 year old who wanted a tatoo is totally certain they wanted the same thing at 17

most genderists don't reverse their decision until it is too late. but 95% of people who claim to be trans do grow out of it

Parents don't need to be giving their kids hormones and that kind of bullshit, and don't need to encourage or inspire their child's body dysmorphic disorder.

Trans kids usually only take puberty blockers, the actual transition happens when they become grown ups. This is nothing but yet more virtue signalling from the Right.

Absolutely not. I'll take the downvotes for being "transphobic" on this. Adults regret their transition. Children are definitely not grown enough to make that decision.

You should only have a sex change after you're 21 and you meet other medical requirements. Sex changes also shouldn't be on the NHS either.

@RagnarRedbeard there's not much research on it for cross sex HRT but from what I've read the risks are only slightly elevated and not very different to cis people who require HRT. As for the effects of what happens because of the HRT I don't think majority of trans people care. The tiny % that do are people who detransition and that was a self evaluated risk they took when deciding to go on HRT.

There's plenty of research, people have been using and studying the effects of steroids for decades and the negative long-term side effects are well-known. The long-term side effects are stronger for children who are still developing and are going through puberty. Those who claim that it's reversible are lying. It might not be as permanent as surgery or as severe or whatever, but the effects will still be long-lasting, and these are children we're talking about.

@RagnarRedbeard research on steroids? Or testosterone specifically? If you're reading research on steroids then that isn't valuable information... It's a rather broad topic. What about estrogen? I'd love to read what you are referring to.

I could go digging for links but when you have basic knowledge of how the hormonal system works it's pretty simple to explain and hopefully understand.

All anabolic steroids are testosterone-based, they're designed to mimic the effects of testosterone. Bodybuilders and athletes will often use different ones depending on their goals, each has a slightly different effect and different side effects. Many will just use straight testosterone anyway.

The way all of them cause damage is by disrupting the hormonal system, otherwise known as the HPA axis. The hormonal system works in a feedback loop, mainly between the hypothalamus, the pineal gland, the adrenal gland and the reproductive organs. Each of those glands releases a certain amount of a hormone which influences each of the other glands in order to maintain balance.

Once you introduce synthetic hormones the whole system goes haywire as the body attempts to rebalance the hormones. Some will go into overdrive while others shut down. With steroids or just synthetic testosterone for example the HPA axis senses a rise in testosterone which shuts down the testicles, while also increasing the rate of aromatisation which is the conversion of testosterone into estrogen. That's where the myth that steroids shrink penises comes from, but they actually shrink balls.

This can cause damage to any one of those glands, which then has a knock-on effect on the others long-term. The longer this goes on the more damage is caused, and the damage is irreversible. This also causes all kinds of other negative health effects.

@RagnarRedbeard that's showing the effects of excessive testosterone in biological males. Which is irrelevant to this discussion. If you're not going to provide links to studies then stop talking.

Yeah, I'm not gonna spend time digging. Like I said this is about the way the entire hormonal system works, so it's not irrelevant at all. Of course, more damage is caused by higher doses but this happens even with a mild dose, so it's not only about excessive testosterone.

@007kingifrit The effects of them are 100% reversible. All they do is prevent the body from going through puberty , as soon as you are off them puberty starts up as normal, they are recommended to only be taken for a year or two (to prevent long term side effects) then the person can start puberty as their biological sex or decide to go onto hormones.

Puberty blockers aren't only used for trans youth. They're used for precocious puberty, IVF patients, treatment of prostate cancer, endometriosis and fibroids.
