+1 yWell, it depends on what you think white privilege is. I see it as more about what we DON’T experience, so you don’t necessarily feel it. It can also manifest itself in many ways, and doesn’t necessarily happen universally, so we can all point to instances where something did or didn’t happen to say it doesn’t exist or didn’t apply. Lord knows we all have hardships and struggles. I think it’s very easy for our psyches to immediately reject any idea that someone might have it worse, or to misinterpret white privilege to mean “the absence of hardship.” The people who facilitate events where some kind of “white privilege-y” thing happens (or doesn’t happen for a non-white person) might not even be malicious or even conscious of what they’re doing.
Honestly, “white privilege” is just an empathetic concept that should live in your mind, an understanding that your experiences, especially ones that DO come relatively easy, are not necessarily the same or equal to others who don’t look like you or me. It would be pretty sweet, albeit unfair, to get a check in the mail for being white, or have some special driving lane where we never sit in traffic, lmao, but that’s just not what it is. A cop was following me tonight on my way home, and I wasn’t pulled over. I can’t say for sure of course, but I’m sure they ran my plate and saw a white guy owned the car, and that might have been the difference between them stopping me or not to “check me out.” My current neighborhood is fairly affluent and almost entirely white, so I wouldn’t have been surprised if they stopped someone else who wasn’t white. Maybe yes, maybe no, but you just can’t rule it out, and that’s really what white privilege is about to me.00 Reply

+1 yThat seems to be a very American view of the world.
it’s black and white, whereas in reality it’s a great mix and melting pot of ethnicity.
i am pretty sure letting a Roma Gypsy in England know that they have white privilege compared to say an Indian living in the UK.
Or maybe a Kosovan, Romanian even Spanish, Italian etc living in The UK.
The get targeted by those in the UK (no matter the colour of the UK resident).
Social background, language, ability to speak the language of the country you are living in, education, social background and importantly the actual real chances you have in life play a bigger part than just skin colour.
I come from a poor part of the UK and was pretty much raised in poverty, there is a known bias in the UK with accents, you have less chance of getting a job down south if you have certain accents.
It’s definitely deeper than just black and white, this is not saying racism does not go on, however it’s not purely limited to the colour of a persons skin.00 Reply
No White privilege doesn’t exist for every white person. White privilege exists because people of another race don’t have what they have and call it that. If you wanted what they have you have to earn it or get it yourself. Just because someone grew up differently than another doesn’t mean they are privileged it just means their parents worked hard to raise them in that kind of environment. You make of yourself what you want. Their are white drs, black drs, Asian, drs, Hispanic drs etc etc… none of them are privileged they just chose a different path to live and worked hard for it. Anybody can get anything a white person has if they work for and earn it. Yeah I will agree that there are some people who think they are privileged, but to me it’s mostly spoiled white, black, and even other races of people! Because they think they are better than you. But NO not all people think or are that way. It is also in the eyes of the accuser. Because you think they have it better but you could have the same. It’s not harder because you are black or any other race, it’s harder because YOU think it is harder because of that reason. Now days I feel it is easier for a black person or any other race to get something easier than a white person because of racial injustice in society that has been blasted through the media. I feel that if two people one black and one white went for a job interview and they both had the same qualifications that the black person would get hired for fear of a lawsuit, and a scream of racial injustice. It goes both ways these days. You have all black colleges, all black schools, NAACP etc…. If white people had that we would automatically be racist.

I’m not saying they shot the nose of the Sphinx but yeah hella black people DO believe that
+1 yWhen people think white privilege, I think that some just simply think of jobs, housing, etc.
It is a privilege in general to be white in this country period. You all have the privilege to step out of your house and not experience racism right off the bat for absolutely no reason. You have the privilege to look at someone or talk to someone or even just to simply walk by someone without them clutching onto their children or their purses. You have the privilege of the media not portraying you as a threat the way that they do us. You all have the privilege to wear your hair however you please in an establishment or a place of business without someone calling you "ghetto" or "ratchet". You all have the privilege to commit certain crimes and not be sentenced to prison for a certain amount of time versus the way we would
White women have the privilege of being the standard of beauty, even in other cultures.
You all have the privilege to drive in your car without worrying about a police pulling you over and NOT accusing you of "having a weapon" or "resisting arrest" just to flat out murder you
You all have the privilege of expressing yourselves without being labeled as "angry" or "crazy"...
So yes, your skin color is a privilege and at this point, it's so clear as day, you can't possibly deny it.20 Reply

10 Reply The term White Privilege is nothing more as a way to shame and offend Whites for having a difference in cultural difference than those who are jealous of them
The real privileged people here in America are the one that have the ability to use the color of their skin to exclude others for theirs and have their own portions within the government that use black skin color as a prerequisite to be a leading member or have the ability to accuse others of racism and have people believe them when there never was any
The real privileged people are the ones that have more government funding and a platform from which to be heard from while complaining and pointing the finger at others about things that can only be fixed within their own sub culture
Look at America society and try and think of one thing that has not been accused of being "Too White" that needs to be forcefully broken apart by diversity as if there are not different kinds of White people that are also a form of diversity
The term "White Privilege" is meant to incorrectly accuse all White people of something that all other people have an abundance of in their own communities and it's only intention it to make White people feel guilty for having a higher standard of living and better methods of teaching their children to do the same in order to achieve more than their parents
it's an offensive and sweeping label that incorrectly describes all Whites when in reality the term only applies to a very minuscule few
For example it term does apply to
Hunter Biden
it does not apply to lower and middle class White Americans that have to work for everything they have just like the rest of America's people20 Reply
+1 yTo be fair to those that peddle "white privilege" They are referring to the *social,* everyday aspects of being white... at least mostly, when it's convenient.
The problem I have with the concept is the assumption that white people all think alike and all look the same and treat each other the same, as if to say they don't have to deal with some kind of prejudice... including from other white people, including from those of the opposite sex. It is human nature to find something "otherly" (is that a word?) about other people... whether it be their behavior, hair color, fashion sense, favorite food, favorite sports team, or political leaning.
It also doesn't help that white people are increasingly being targeted for political gain these days, and this can only happen when you change the definition of racism and then repeatedly tell people that they are not racist if they're "punching up."
Also, the grass is always greener from the other side.00 Reply1.2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. So my understanding of what white privilege is, goes as follow. White privilege seems to have come from ancestral wealth, police over looking or just not being as dangerous towards them than colored people, in the eyes of the law, seen as innocent till proven guilty and above all usually not guilty even with evidence saying otherwise. That's what everyone else has told. While I do admit I have seen instances where a lot of these things do happen for certain white people, I do not believe all white people have this privilege. I don't believe anyone treats a homeless white person any better than a homeless black person
21 Reply- +1 y
Exactly it's all about socio economic status too
Not really. However the "beauty privilege" does exist and it even subconsciously influences judges (but it could indirectly translate into "white privilege" if the one deciding had personal orefences for "whites", however the same would apply to any other ethnicity as all humans have tribal mentality of "good us against bad them").
And before commenting, be honest with yourself. If you saw two genderless people and knew one of them did a crime, would you suspect the "beautiful/innocent looking" one or the one looks worse? See, we even commonly say that someone is "innocent looking" as if looks somehow reflect who we are.01 Reply897 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Let´s say that I think that "white privilege" is something that happens in situations like the police controlling your driver´s license. Therefore at least in my experience there are situations where some white people experience "white privilege" that are not privileged in other situations.
Like I regularly experience "white privilege" situation when it comes to confrontations with the police, when I´m checked by police either in traffic or at the airport or stations they are always calm and sometimes also for a fun chat.
At the same time a friend of mine who´s looks a Paelastinian being a strong guy with quite a beard he´s also controlled by a gang of police men and he´s often times seen as some kind of islamic terrorist although he´s Christian.
That guy he can gets nearly any club, when he buys alcohol or any "adult" stuff people never ask him for ID but I always get asked though both a beard.00 Reply- 6.6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
m +1 ysome of those "privileges" yes... but not all of them, no
for example, at your workplace.. let's say "someone" is inside your workplace and starts shooting someone else in an altercation, and police is already on the street near enough and they do hear the commotion and the gunfire
in this situation you can be 99% sure that cops will storm into your workplace and they will be way more wary of people of color than they will be wary of you
but this is just one example01 Reply White privilege is more than what you think. It’s being born in the west in the richest countries who built most of their wealth by stealing from others. It’s NOT experiencing racism in education work housing or banking, it’s being able to keep your own culture and language, it’s having police protect you instead of view you as the “other team”. Europe is cold small and there aren’t much natural resources, white people are on top for sure in Argentina and S Africa and Canada Scandinavia and Russia and everyone in the world must recognize that fact, white privilege is a status, a birth right
10 ReplyDo white people living in trailer parks have privledge?
Basically a lot of people do well because they were raised right and their parents worked hard to advance their children. It's a generational thing with each generation doing a little but better. Asian immigrants often demonstrate this with say the grandparents arring in the US with nothing but the shirt on his back working all his life to advance his kids, then the 2nd generation does a little bit better and maybe goes to college to say become an office worker, then the third generation maybe becomes a doctor10 ReplyWhite privilege is an American thing. While living in south America, it was light brown privilege. Black, darker brown and white people were sneered at. It’s all just racism, and it’s all bad. But you can’t control your _____ privilege because it’s how others act toward you, not vice versa. It’s about being different than the majority. But if you’re a white kid that eats lunch with the black kids at lunch, you’re the one disadvantage socially in that moment. It’s extremely fluid. It’s better to be called “Situation Majority Privilege”

+1 yYes, but that doesn't mean what most people (apparently including you, Asker) wrongfully think it means. The main misconception here is that "white privilege" equals not having any major hardships in life, which of course is beyond absurd. Fact is, most PEOPLE (regardless of skin color) suffer from major hardships in life. What it does mean is that being white is beneficial in comparison to not being white.
A piss poor white person suffers just like a piss poor black person. But there are a lot of aspects in our society, where the piss poor black person will be fucked EVEN more than the piss poor black person. Racial profiling and police brutality are prime examples of that. But there are countless.
So, the fact that people of all races can and do have it hard in life has nothing to do with what white privilege refers to. This is a misconception that is starting to get really tiresome.00 ReplyEVERYONE can tell what sort of privileged class exists within a given country by the race of the people represented on its fiat currency. That demographic is who that country was made for. Ergo, these specific people will experience special privileges within that country. It's not rocket science or the big, unknowable mystery that some white people claim it to be.
24 Reply- +1 y
I am not saying that every white person has it easy in the United States. Many suffer due to class issues. Certainly. However, if you are being intellectually honest, you can examine this country's timeline and perceive that black Americans, specifically, have been victimized by institutionalized racism.
America's timelines betray a history of racist laws, a biased criminal justice system, segregatonist business practices, scientific atrocities (including targeting black communities with a plethora of Planned Parenthood clinics, genocidal experiments, and with educational and social deficits. - +1 y
Are blacks to blame for many of their problems? Yes. However, if you set up a people to fail (regardless of their race or creed) at an institutional level (spanning several generations back), of course there are bound to be negative residual effects and outcomes for those people that are less than stellar. Look at what white America has done to Native American Indians. Conversely, if you set up a people to win (spanning back several generations), then of course their kind will occupy the majority of the seats of our governments and control the legislative powers over all of the people within this country. Legislation that will give their kind wins when it comes to educational, real estate, employment, legal, financial, and other endowments, should their kind choose to access them. Their kind will never have to petition to renew their natural born citizenship rights unlike many black Americans in certain parts of this country. - +1 y
My little screed here is by no means an all encompassing discussion of racism or of class struggles in America. I just wanted to gloss over your comment about whites having it just as tough or being "as oppressed" as blacks. That is simply is not true, collectively speaking. Regardless of whether you are a struggling white person who is currently residing in a swamp shanty, a trailer park, or a slum, your golden ticket out of that situation is to apply yourself and to overcome your adversities. Your kind does not have institutional barriers in your way when you resolve to rise up. That being said, being born white still has considerable value within white America.
If white privilege is real... I have not experienced it.. I have however experienced racism for the colour of my skin. An Asian man would not take me in a Uber that my friends we're taking because I was white.. He would take my Asian friends but not me. My friend had to translate it for me but he said I'll take all of you except the white girl. So we ended up not taking his uner and taking another one. I thought it was really rude. Clearly I'm not racist at all.
20 Reply2.5K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Absolutely. A lot of people have preconceived notions for people of color so when they automatically have an opinion of them based on their skin color that means they get overlooked for the job, treated differently , etc. where as white people are obviously seen as pleasant, unproblematic , more professional, etc automatically.

In theory, yes...
After all the concept of "white privilege" isn't just about socio economic background, but about the treatment from people generally as well.
If applying for a job, people will make judgments (even without thinking it) or financial loans or even whether someone is helped on the street can all be affected by people's beliefs and it is less of a problem for people with paler skin

Its quite the opposite, no affirmative action, no million or so exclusive scholarships for whites only, no government special funding for historically white colleges, no extra favorable media coverage. No race card for whites, no BS discrimination lawsuits for whites. The real privilege is for people who grow up with two parents. Growing up with only 1 parent increases your chance of poverty by 80%. Black people who graduate engineering school are doing great, every bit as good as whites.

it appears I’m filling your brain with too much information at one time so I’ll allow you to explain yourself, what do you mean “white privilege” is racist? You mean the idea or (false) concept of white privilege is actually prejudice antagonistic or oppresses white people in some way?
- +1 y
You need a pick up a dictionary bro you’re not quite understanding… see when black say “black lives matter” they mean I deserve dignity as a human being, when white people say’ “white lives matter” they mean RACE WAR NOW! Just like that New Zealand shooter y’all kind ain’t nothing but punks can’t believe he said, “wow now that was a firefight” dog is shooting at people hunched over praying no one in there had a gun and when y’all see the Dallas sniper y’all poop your pants and blow him up with a robot

@lrina what is “white lives matter” a reaction to? Even “blue lives matter” don’t sound right might as well say “back to Africa” “stop Asian hate” is its own thing and if y’all think you look white 👻 you ain’t scaring nobody you look pink 🐖 🍣 I don’t think you’ll ever understand and that’s exactly why Malcolm X met with the KKK
- +1 y
@JustiReno your random tangents make absolutely no sense.

@JustiReno But there were also white people who fought to free slaves, white Germans who provided refuge to Jews, many white immigrants in the US who came during the 19th century and onward who had nothing to do with slavery or the treatment of Native Americans like Irish immigrants who emigrated from Ireland during the Great Famine (and they're still an overall poor subclass in the US), etc.
Attributing the atrocities of certain members of a broad group and holding the entire broad group responsible is usually what fuels things like racism and sexism. For example, here in Japan, we have a problem with racism towards the Chinese because a lot of Chinese immigrants and poor and many turn to the underground economy through the Triad. But that's overlooking all the honest and hard-working Chinese people here. The racists only see the bad and attribute the bad qualities to all Chinese. - +1 y
@HighlyVolatile iono I don’t think Japanese people have the equivalent status at all they may think they are the master race of Asia but this must of been pumped into their heads in the Meiji period. Whiteness is something the whole world recognizes correct? White privilege is not about being personally responsible for slavery because you have profited from it regardless. Your position in life is due to your genealogy. That’s all
I’m saying and that’s the “white privilege” that is spoken of, I guess it is hard to understand, it definitely is not for an Apache Navajo or Creek - +1 y
@JustiReno Obviously there are certain privileges and opportunities opened up through the nature of history. That applies just as much to "male privilege" for which we are in the same boat. But the feminist types who accuse us of having that don't see the complete picture, and I also don't think they're aiding much in building a better world. It's a very divisive approach.

It’s ridiculous. They thought they were getting pulsed by the Cubans remember? You remember they drugged someone up on LSD and pushed him out the window? Just like the Russians are trying to hack us each and every day to gain a back door on us so to is a United Front behind a pure white banner attacking the black people day in and day out in many different levels, all around the globe. Black people have to fight to survive and they have endured and even some have managed to prosper. Wealthy whites are fearful no doubt the first successful slave rebellion in the world happened in the americas, a remarkable state and story. They drum this into the heads of poor whites who have less knowledge and experience about the world and create the situation we’re in. Black people are not your enemy. Nor do black people have control of this.. what if they wished they would’ve fought to the death instead of being captured if they knew their fate? Some of them did but they group together who cannot speak the same language and add in their women and children? This is White “privilege”, it is the difference between Dominican Republic 🇩🇴 and Haiti 🇭🇹 . It is your birth right as a white person whether you accept this fact or not. What would happen if they were cultivating sugar cane in the Southern States instead of cotton? You realize you cut sugarcane at the stalk with a machete? Just look what happened in Haiti if you didn’t know and no they didn’t make a pact with the devil they just hate your guts

@JustiReno you're talking about stuff from like 50+ years ago

@lrina Fallujah in Iraq was in 2003 they have the MOST CONCENTRATED RATE OF BIRTH DEFECTS OF ANY POPULATION EVER STUDIED. What we did to them is so fucked up, we did not give a fuck about civilians there or long term health affects of those people because they did not want USA in their country

@JustiReno ok

@JustiReno Colin Powell, the head of the military during the Iraq war, was black. Most white people had no say in how the US fights its wars. So why are you ascribing blame to white people as a class?
- +1 y
@RealMarek anti-war has been the traditional black stance since the Vietnam war Obama Condi and Collin can suck a 🍆
50 years ago, sure. nowadays though? no, it's quite dumb.

+1 yWhite privilege is just a word used by blacks to justify why they never amounted to anything in society. Meanwhile Asians move to America and run shit.

+1 yNo because I'm white and got treated like a black person, when I got caught stealing from a store... They sent me to jail like I was black, they're even racist to white people too
10 Reply11.4K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Not all white people, but overall, in the US, it's easier to be white than it is any other color, all things being equal relative to socioeconomic status and money.

+1 yDefinitely not, most southern or Eastern white Europeans are sometimes treated worse in west/north Europe.
00 Reply I think everyone has some form of privilege, it's kind of inevitable. Your looks, your height, how you cope with stress, how likable you are, how much money you make. People are very complex.
00 Replynot for everyone. its really up to people in power and their own prejudices
