Gender-based statistics aren't something on which I'd want to base my own personal philosophy. That said, when I take a good long look at even the small part of the world in which my life happens, having the wrong politics is just the start of the problem.
I think that men treat each other worse than they treat women, and that none of their behavior involves much forethought with regard to consequences. The might is right behavior has led us to more conflict than ever in human history, and it is obviously pointless to lay blame but they persist in doing that, instead of looking for solutions.
Women tend to share, to be more compassionate and empathetic, and young boys seem to have that trait, as well, but something in puberty, whether it's testerone or peer pressure of both, seems to discourage traits that are probably dismissed as feminine, rather than masculine. Their sporting activities tend to involve damaging and destroying the opposition, which, to me, seems to inspire a much more virulent sense of difference that is used to justify harsh behavior, where people often suffer very real and long-lasting serious injury.
Men seem to have trained themselves to believe that compassion, especially in the form of social programs that offer an even only slightly more level playing field for all, is a weakness to be supressed, so the results of your survey in no way contradict my general impression of our behavior in the world.
The Democrat party is run by women (Pelosi as kingmaker) and markets itself in terms and ideas attractive to women. The Republican Party is run by men (Trump as kingmaker) and takes on issues that tended historically to be more attractive to men. At some point in the 20th century, the parties reinvented themselves by switching sides almost simultaneously. The historically racist Democrats (founders of KKK, Jim Crow was a Democrat, etc) were able to paint the Republican Party as not only racist but Red, which historically was the color of Marxism, and fused the National Socialist German Workers Party, universally hated by everyone on Earth, with Republicans, despite Democrats being the National Socialist party in the US. This tradition continues to this day, with internet trolls accusing conservatives they dislike or cannot defeat argumentatively of being a Nazi. It displays a stunning ignorance of history when a Democrat calls a Republican a Nazi, or a Klan member.
To put it simply, women feel bad, more often, and in greater numbers, for the less materially fortunate. The appeal to emotion is frequently used in marketing of Democrat ideas which do not have any substance or connection to reality, such as welfare or other “free” money for the poor. Only the most hard hearted villain would perpetrate welfare on unsuspecting poor people, but it has been a party plank on the left for over a century because it is sold as helping them get back on their feet, which resonates with women because it seems to have a moral basis. Over generations, the victims of the welfare state, through atrophy, forget where their feet are, but this doesn’t matter because it still feels good be the savior for people whose problems your representatives manufactured in the first place.
Well, there's an explanation to that. Most women are liberals because of the feminist movement. Most men are traditionalists (difference between that and "conservative"), because they want to keep the status quo.
However, there are other factors that can affect the outcome, like race, age, sexual orientation and so on. This is called "identity politics". An example of exceptions is when white women put race first before gender and vote Republican, and when minority men vote Democrat.
I can only speak for my community. I'm a Black man, and I don't identity as either, because I see the flaws in both ideologies. I know most Black people men and women vote for Democrats, because they think it's the party of less evil, not because they necessarily agree with everything that is being said by the democrats.
I have seen damage and destruction come from both parties. Nixon's war on crime, Reagan's war on drugs and crack cocaine policies and Clinton's 94 crime bill. The welfare policies that made sure single mothers could rely on the government, and highways that broke right through Black neighborhoods designed by Republicans. I cannot and will not vote for either, but I know most people don't see it the same way, so they will elect whatever fits their agenda, even if it directly impacts my community.
Not sure, but I'm center right, also known as independent. I suspect though it has to do with where you live. I live rural and in rural Democrats are a endangered species. Those that admit they are, are afraid to admit it.
People tend to have one or two big topics they care about and not the rest. They also have perceptions on which side supports that the best.
That's true, people in urban areas tend to vote democrat while people in rural areas tend to vote republican. Makes sense because why would someone that lives in the country want to pay higher taxes and support large government? It at least makes more sense to have big government in a big city, although oddly enough they now support defunding police and allowing crime to run rampant in democratic cities. That's why I can't support democrats, it's just one too many nuts over there.

I was always told growing up I was sheltered and didn’t understand how things work by living outside of the city… but it seems to have been the opposite. I’m always surprised by the lack of basic knowledge, such as how goods and services make it to the shelf.

Women are unable to as a whole be as independent as men. They rely heavily on the ability to get welfare safety nets, the police to protect them because most can't, basically they need society a whole lot more than men in general terms. That's not to say that plenty of men rely on the same thing, but as a whole that's totally women. Women aren't able to deal with the same level of responsibilities as men because they just aren't as responsible
A good example of this is they require planned Parenthood because they lack the discipline to not spread their legs till they are financially ready and they don't choose good mates but lot for "bad boys". Then they need the tax dollars from good men to pay to murder their offspring or feed them since they can't do it themselves. They also don't like having equal representation. Most women don't want to get drafted to war or for men to hit them back if they hit first. But they want all the benefits men had to earn through hardships they will never endure
White women are the worst offenders in this regard, being the most privileged class, especially blonde ones
I'm one of the outliers that happens to be a guy but supporting the left on most things. It's interesting to read some of the comments though about the right caring more about logic and long term issues, when a lot of right wing policies focus on short term gains for the few leaving long term problems for the many (see oil, pharmaceutical patents and general environmental protections).
It's true that a lot of policies on the left appeal to the feel good factor, but that's generally because the left don't focus on the individual but society as a whole and how to make things better for everyone. (everyone profits vs one person profits)
Women usually think emotionally/with their feelings. Leftwing ideology is pretty much entirely based on how issues make you feel and react in the moment, and the go-to marketing tactic is immediate reaction outrage mobbery.
Men usually think with logic or cost-benefit approach. Rightwing ideology is mainly based on historical precedence and past results, while marketing for the right also tends to focus on long term consequences.
All things being equal, men and women going into political issues with a blank slate in terms of knowledge will generally sway in these directions. When I was in college though (circa 2013), the national trend was more like 55:45 rather than about 70:30 split like you found in your poll.

Why mostly men, though? One thing I’ve seen happen in many places online is that right-wing men actively look for new places to colonize. When there is weak moderation, even a minority of intolerant people will discourage other people to participate in the conversation. Intolerance and right-wing are usually linked.
So, if that’s the case, why a majority of women are left-leaning? I suppose women are less interested in occupying online spaces. In general more women support left-wing politics in the US, especially younger women, so the sample might just be representative of the general female population. Also less women voted in the survey so it’s hard to draw a conclusion.
Yes, it's a fact. But I also am more left leaning but moderate about it. But I can explain it: left wing identitifies with personal freedom, independence, and wanting people to have opportunities. That would of course resonate most with women who would like to have personal freedom and opportunity in life, which there's nothing wrong with that. Groups who have been held back/oppressed in recent decades and centuries typically agree with left-leaning sentiments.
Caucasian men are largely right-wing because right-wing identifies with their culture and its norms, corporate and financial might (which has always been in the hands of caucasian men), military matters, and preserving an America that they feel is too free. Not all of these things are entirely bad either, but more often than not right-wing ideology is more about staying behind in the times and giving opportunity and freedom to one group of people.
Left appeals to women's rights more and always has done so. Along with left typically not having MGTOW mentality.
A lot of women are also pro-choice which again comes with the women's rights more, where as guys can easier be pro-life because they don't actually have to experience a pregnancy in the same way.
Rights for women again produced by the left side is just the fact and ability to work, if we kept in the right minded way of thinking women would still be home bound wife's who don't do much other than cook and clean without much option.

I'm liberal (I don't use left and right because they have loaded connotations). Political alignments can be related to what the party has to offer, alignments based on shared ideals, protections, the norm of a persons social spheres. Viability, etc.
Let's say that more women are liberal because conservative policies or ideals often are poor at protecting women. To conserve/preserve is to keep things the same or to allow very little change, while to be liberal is to "free", to free from unhelpful constraints. This doesn't mean that conservative parties dont have aspects of freedom nor that liberal parties don't want to conserve/preserve anything, they are names more than strict definitions.
I think in this survey of under 100 people here is not a good enough sample to definitely say this is true to your percentages. However here are stats from a 2018 study done with a bigger sample. I don't see a more current one than this but you could investigate to see if there is one if you'd like.

Regarding left and right men seem to lead women in being a little more than 10% likely to be republican which are mainly conservative and Christian. Remember there are also more women than men in the country and world for that matter. So it's prob a little closer to split down the middle by gender.

Right wing promotes free speech, religious freedoms and firearms, which guys tend to innately favor, where as left wing tends to favor good social policy, reproductive rights and environmental ethics, which is something we tend to favor. In an extremely generalized description, its because women are feelers and men are not. The left-wing specifically market to the heart strings and not so much on cold, hurtful facts. Its not an indictment on either gender. Its simply different tactics used by different parties. The left-wing rely on highly emotive but flimsy topics that crack under the slightest weight of facts against them. This has happened since Woodrow Wilson, who was a monster, LBJ, and even Clinton, who has skeletons in his massive closet. It's not that people *are* more independent if the government is smaller, it's the other way around.
If people are more independence minded they don't see the point of a big goverment.
In either case different people see different reasons for what government services are the most needed.
What people *can't* do themselves.
Another factor is that women usually *need* more medical services then we men do.
And they often enjoy exactly the kind of jobs that tends to end up being goverment jobs.
They enjoy social jobs, so they become teachers etc.
They enjoy helping others, do they become nurses etc.
And so one and so forth.
They often see the lack of goverment spending first hand.
Men, er work more in the private sector, and what we see is the tax bill.
We *don't* like seeking out help and often wait till the last moment to do so, or even longer, when it's to late.
So we get a totally different perspective.

I would say because women are more interested in people than men are. Hence why women tend to make up most SJW than men. Men are more business minded so they seek things that would help them in a business perspective as for women are more worried that everyone gets their fairshare

Women are expected to be caretakers, more liberal, while men are expected to be free to do whatever's necessary, more conservative. Those norms make it harder for conservative women and liberal men to respond to your survey.

Likely voted for Trump because they were out of viable candidates (2016 conservative candidates were essentially bottom of the barrel options). A GAG poll is not an accurate way to gage the gender gap in political views. Women do tend to be more liberal and men do tend to be more conservative, but the gap is not that big.

The idea of succeeding now a days due to personal achievement is a myth. Even the successful rich celebrity’s you see that had “humble up bringings” more often than not came from upper middle class well off families that could support them in their career and interests.
