The ukraine hated crimeans and wanted the land but not the people on it. The people wanted to leave and return home to russian. However It hosts a gigantic Russian naval base, natural resources and pyramids that NATO wants.

Most of the pro-russians in Crimea were Kremlin agents, mercenaries and military posing as Ukrainians.
The entire conflict was manufactured by Putin to start off what's happening in Ukraine right now.

I am aware that in moldova in the seperatist region knows as transnistria. pridnistrovia. The people are foreigners and not moldovans and russia makes them hate the moldovan government to form a separatist state.

However russia gave crimea to ukraine and I dont know why? now they want it back. I can't give you something and steal it back thats illegal.

Because Ukraine was a victim of genocide under Stalin for decades, so Khrushchev decided to give Ukraine Crimea as kind of a token of appeasement.
Except in order to keep their control over the region, the USSR pretty much expelled all of the indigenous populace and replaced it with ethnic Russians by the 1950s.
It was, essentially, an empty political gesture since the USSR considered itself as the de facto ruler of all of Ukraine anyway.

That of course changed by 1991 when the Soviet Union collapsed, and Ukraine became an independent nation.
Now the Crimea that was artificially repopulated by Russia under Stalin/Khrushchev was suddenly not Russia anymore.

I'm from Slovakia, I have some family in Western Ukraine and some friends from the Eastern parts as well as other post-USSR countries.

thanks for the info. The ukraine has been slowly headed towards a civil war since 1991. I cannot understand how anyone could like Stalin after the Holodomor famine.

Always remember Moldova is next and they are terrified. On day one of the invasion the 74 military bases were bombed and the noise was so loud that moldova woke up at 5 in the morning.

Ukraine has been against ethnic russians living there and russian language and discrimination against it since 1991. Just like the irish and English but far far worse. We get along and dont care abut our history.

Because they are Russians.
Some 40% of Donbass is Russian population, and after the civil uprising of 2013~2014 (the Euromaidan) in which the pro-Russian puppet dictator Yanukovych was expelled from Ukraine, some of those Russians rebelled against Ukraine and decided to seize Donbass by force.
Since then they have been de facto openly supported by Russia with military and weapons.

Basically the same situation as in Transnistria, Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

oh ok thanks. I think Putin regrets invading ukraine. They should have never given crimea away and if they did taken it back decades ago. If he never invaded anyone the country would be thriving economically.

Recognizing Crimea as part of Russia would set a dangerous precedent.
Heck the mellow response is part of the reason for the current war in Ukraine as Russia has judicially equal claim to any other part of Ukraine or any other foreign country for that matter.
