I would like to call it "a good idea of the Australian government", but honesty compels me to admit that it's "THE good idea of the Australian government"- they automatically enroll people in the voter registry when they're born, and require them to vote; they get fined if they don't. Consequently, there's quite a bit more political engagement there- that it tends so strongly towards the authoritarian is scary, but Parliament members can't simply ignore their voters the way Congress (wo) men can here (they also call their Parliament a "Senate", which annoys me, but that's another issue).

When you feel little to no need to placate your electoral base, but quite a lot to placate your corporate and governmental sponsors, you get what we have here.

This was another good thing that Trump did. He cut out a lot of foreign aid, especially to countries that hate us. The ones he gave money to he made sure to get something in return.

2) no one made anyone go to college and they agreed to the terms

bonus , gov't should not be in business of "giving " anything. Their purpose is for a military to protect people and make laws. They are not a grocery store. Charities and churches are for helping people. Even though Gov't is trying to destroy churches and religion.
