Why does society say that girls are strong and independent?

We are told that girls are “strong and independent” but any time they should be expected to take responsibility for poor choices... we are told that they are “objectionable” and “naive” and that it’s men’s responsibility to protect them.

Because it doesn't want them to be strong and independent. The rules society (in the US, at least) pushes on women aren't nearly as far-reaching as those it pushes on men, but Heaven help her if she breaks them- it's pretty much expected that he'll break a few.

The best way they've found to this is tell womes that they already ARE strong and brave, and thus even fewer will seek the struggles that grant strength and prove bravery. A person, male or female, who has memories of moments of real strength they showed, is a person who knows they're capable of great things that others simply assume to be impossible. Such is a person is bound to be an upsetting force; better, social architects figure, to strangle the hero in her cradle and leave another normal woman in her place.

This is why our daughters grow up seeking to emulate Cinderella and not Antigone.

Society tells women they are strong and independent for the same reason it tells children they are such big girls or big boys.

At what age do we consider girls women?

We let 8 year old boys decide if they want to become “girls”, but we don’t think a 16 year old female is capable of making proper choices.

A black out drunk 18 year old male is held responsible for his choices and actions while completely inebriated, but any female at any age who has even the slightest amount of alcohol in her is considered unable to make proper decisions.

20+ year old female teachers are raping 13-15 year old boys at epidemic numbers but very few get any real consequences, while a male teacher having sex with a 16 year old student will get jailed for sex crimes against a person incapable of making proper choices.

I think you have a hard time understanding language because it no point did I say I was bothered by strong and independent women my whole point is there is no strong and independent women there is a bunch of children who are called strong and independent but when the crunch time happens they can’t take responsibility for themselves.
