We always had problems. About a century ago, the entire world was at war with each other... twice.

However as our technology changes, so become our problems. World affecting viruses, climate change, mass pollution will become the norm because of it. And then we aren't even talking about the social drama because of the internet ('fake' news, social media addiction). Heck, even basic health is a serious concern nowadays, with the obesity problem.
All of these are due to the growing globalism, a problem that has truly arisen since the 20th century.

So in short: we are facing some new difficulties nowadays. But there were always problems to deal with.
