What do you expect when the country was built on conquest, revolution, and defense from foreign invaders?
Gun ownership is sacrosanct in America. You don’t have to understand it. As a European I’m not sure you can.
The problem is with mental issues in USA where they have bigger problem with than in Europe. Normal people don't make shootouts, only these who are mentally ill.
Mentally ill people who can't get guns don't, either. (And, of course, mentally ill people are far more likely to be victims of crimes than perpetrators.)
The second amendment was more so citizens could keep the government from taking over the lives of people more than self-defense are forefathers didn't think it would come to this
Here's the thing. If hundreds of millions of citizens are opposed to the government, they only need pitchforks to overturn it. If you need guns, you're probably a small minority that should not be dictating to the country.
So 2/5th the number of people who turned out for BLM. (I'm pretty sure the 3% thing is a myth. Yup: "Three percent would be 75,000. Even a cursory look at wikipedia's entry on the Revolutionary War, mentions that over 250,000 men fought as regulars or militiamen at some point during the conflict, although the standing size of the Continental Army never exceeded 90,000." findanyanswer.com/what-percentage-of-americans-fought-the-revolution )
The same reason why I stay fit and practiced martial arts for years. To increase my safety.

Because when seconds matter; the police are only minutes away. Also we threw off the tyranny of the most powerful military of the time. So we know the value of private ownership of arms.

Well as the police are under no obligation to protect the general public, individuals have to take that into their own hands
if you actually adjust per capita mass shootings are more common in Europe than america, norway is #1 in the world for mass shootings
also... your graphic is BS
A 18 year old went into an elementary school today and shot 14 kids and a teacher from what I heard earlier.
If I carry a gun it is to hunt food for the table.
As a Eurotrash, you see what happens to people who don't. Answered your own question there!

@goaded the American revolution had 3% of the population helping. Today that'd be 10 mil about.

Americans have the fear of being victimized instilled in them from a young age.
Victimization? And here I thought we were all white supremacist colonizers! 😆
@Agagagagaga
You can be a white supremacist colonizer and still be afraid of being a victim.
bahahahahaha. Not white supremacist colonizer!!!
As an American, the opinion of Europeans is irrelevant.
Especially the UK. I fcking hate those faqs
The shootings tend to happen more where gun control restrictions are the strictest.
Guns = freedom, because bad people will always find a way to get em, so us good guys need em to or we will be slaves
Anyone with an issue should just not stay here. There are plenty of gun free zones in the US to live in.
We'd need it here in France. For now, the criminals have the guns, and we don't. People are getting stab and killed almost daily.
Guns don't scare me. Having a president with the IQ of dryer lint, terrifies me.
They need protection because they courts have ruled they police are not obligated to protect them.

I don't know but I love my guns and I won't give them up. It's better to have them and not need them then to need them and not have them
