Teachers will never be armed, but as to the "not choosing books", well, in most places teachers are told not only what they will teach and when but also how. As for choosing additional material the amount of leeway depends on the administration.
But classrooms should not be politicized by teachers or administrators, and the material should be age- and subject-appropriate. Unfortunately, some leftists have attempted to force their extreme beliefs on young, impressionable minds. Discussions about sexuality aren't in the curriculum mandated by the state and have no business in the classroom. Nor should politics.01 Reply- +1 y

Leave education to professional educators, not to parents and politicians who want to hide children from the world they live in. That does our children no favors. As for guns, is that so far fetched? The government can’t keep shooters out of schools. They’re sitting ducks. Let school staff with concealed carry licenses carry on grounds if they choose….. and train them to respond to an active shooter situation. It just might save a child’s life one of these days.

Censorship never works out in the end, especially in the digital age. Try to hide information from kids and they’ll just seek it out. You aren’t stopping anything. I find it hilarious that parents suddenly are angered by books exploring sexuality and LGBTQ issues in an educational setting yet hand their kids a smart phone where pornography is available for free online, including gay and transgender porn and they don’t bat an eye. So what exactly are you hiding your kids from?

Ask any transgender person if they were “taught” their internal struggle with gender identity. Seriously, maybe you need to read some of these books and learn a little bit yourself. At best, education might make someone who already has these feelings feel more comfortable revealing it. Society has changed enough that people no longer want to hide how they feel or live by someone else’s rules. Covering your eyes and plugging your ears and refusing to grow intellectually won’t make it go away. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Where did you get your degree in psychology to diagnose that? Just curious because transgenderism isn’t classified as a mental illness by any credible professional that I know of. Also, a delusion is a belief in an altered reality. Transgender people are well aware of what their biological sex is. They just identify and choose to live as the opposite gender…or no gender at all. Why is it necessary to force people into a box of your choosing?

If it didn’t, we’d still be drilling holes in peoples heads to let the demons out. Homosexuality was once labeled a mental illness also but study and enlightenment has led us to correct that. What’s wrong with teaching that kind of respect and tolerance? I don’t know if California has a higher rate of transgenderism or not. If it does, it really wouldn’t surprise me. @joeldalton The Ukraine war has had some effect on oil markets but what we’re seeing now is a result of the rapid economic growth coming out of the pandemic coupled with the supply chain backlog, worker shortages and rising wages. Government regulations probably play a small part as well…. as are foreign tariffs. You also have many major US industries that have been consolidated into the hands of just a few entities and they wield a great deal of power on pricing. There isn’t just one cause.

What power does the presidency have to cause significantly higher or even lower global prices? I’m struggling to see a fact based argument from you. Domestic and foreign production is less than it was in 2019. Until that scenario changes or demand free falls again, we’re going to have high gas prices. There’s probably some gouging going on as well on top of that and government should be investigating it.

@joeldalton I did not say gouging was causing the high prices. I said it may be contributing to it. When you see oil drop on the market but the price is never adjusted at the pump, it makes you go hmmmmm. It’s a production issue mainly. OPEC definitely has a hand in it by limiting production. On the domestic side, you had over 100 smaller gas and oil companies go bankrupt during the pandemic. The rest of the industry has not picked up the slack and production still lags. Why that is the case is matter of speculation but there is heavy pressure from wall st to keep investor profits up. Worker shortages and supply chain issues are plaguing the industry still. I also suspect some of it is greed. Oil producers lost billions in 2020. I’m sure they aren’t chomping at the bit to diminish the profits they’re taking in now.

Presidents have regulatory control over the small portion of the industry that is on federal land and they have control over how aggressively they enforce environmental regulations, which can add some cost. By and large though, they have very limited influence over private markets. You have not made a convincing argument otherwise.

I actually did not vote for him. I voted for Jo Jorgensen. He is right about fossil fuels though. We need to reduce greenhouse gasses. Known oil reserves are going to be depleted in 50 years. Plus, it’s in our best interest as consumers. The price of electricity is far less volatile than the price of oil and isn’t influenced by foreign market factors that we can’t control. There really isn’t a single good reason to stick with oil. People are just resistant to change, even when it’s in their best interest to do so (Like you). The presidency does not have powers attached to it to so dramatically affect the global price of oil. His regulatory authority is modest at best. You blame him but you haven’t made any kind of rational argument how that would even be possible. Your comments are nonsensical and often outright dishonest. Since you think you're clearly smarter than me, and that electricity is the solution to our energy needs. how do you feel we'll generate all this electricity? We don't like nuclear plants, wind power and solar are only as good as their sources (sun and wind) being available. The minerals needed to produce solar panels and batteries have to be sourced from countries that routinely use slave labor and are in countries that we don't have the best relationships with, they create a lot of toxic waste that no one has a plan to deal with.
I stated simply that biden influences oil prices by his words and actions. Commodities like oil are just like stocks... they don't just work on hard facts and data. There's emotion and speculation as well. So projecting an image that we're going to restrict oil supplies from the US drives up prices.

One of your debating tactics is to falsely attribute something to me that I didn’t say, or even imply, just so you can make your own political statement in response. It’s a dishonest strategy and I’ll call you on it every time, whether you admit that you do it or not. You clearly do. Transitioning to EV’s is not without logistical and technological hurdles. Wind and solar is unlikely to provide enough electricity to power every car in America. Nuclear power may very well have to supplement it. It’s not perfect but it’s a far better option than burning coal. The nations aging electrical grid won’t handle it either. Last years infrastructure bill will begin that upgrade but it’s a major question. Batteries will be the biggest issue as China is discovering right now. Not only is disposal and recycling crucial but lithium mining is not the answer. The environmental impact is too great. Battery technology is moving pretty fast now and there are alternatives in development, such as sodium batteries, that could very well be a much greener option. We’re years away from this being a reality and critical questions are completely valid. I have questions and concerns too. However, your sides plan is no plan at all. You want to keep filling the atmosphere with greenhouse gasses, despite warnings from scientists, and keep us dependent on a fuel source thats price is heavily influenced by global market factors we can’t control. Why? It doesn’t serve us well. Then when it blows up in your face and you’re paying between $4-$5 a gallon and lining the pockets of oil executives, you want to blame a president for taking modest regulatory action or saying mean things about fossil fuels on TV. It’s completely ludicrous. I’ll take a plan with potential over no plan at all any day if the week. If someone has a better idea, I’m all ears.
