It's a stupid idea for about 50 different reasons. First of all, it provides any student fairly easy access to a firearm, because you can guarantee not everyone is going to lock it up properly. Second, you think a teacher is going to take aim and murder a child? Shooting someone, even in self-defense, has serious long-term psychological consequences. Third, people behave in unpredictable ways when put in a terrifying situation. Panic is very dangerous. You absolutely cannot count on untrained people to behave rationally and logically in an emergency. Fourth, if you don't also train everyone, you're probably going to make the problem worse. Arming and training every teacher around the country is an expensive logistical nightmare. Shall we go on?

I do think school staff who can legally carry a firearm and complete training in defensive shooting ought to be allowed to carry on school grounds if they choose. The reality is that kids are sitting ducks in our schools. It’s been proven over and over. Security cameras and locked doors won’t do a whole lot to thwart a mass shooter. Wackos choose these targets because they inflict maximum horror and they know they will not face any kind of armed resistance. They can inflict carnage with impunity until police tactical units can be assembled. Arming school staff may not always stop a shooter but it does create the possibility. Until someone has a better idea that can realistically be achieved, I say let school staff arm themselves.

I know that some teachers are afraid and never would want to touch a gun. Some students would have nightmares if their gun qualified teachers would open carry or even have one in their possession. Concealed or otherwise.
But in the ideal world. School employees carrying a gun would definitely cut down on the response time to stop a gun threat. But then school shooters are cowards. Why else do they do their deed in a gun free zone? Maybe if a few school employees. Whether it would be the principal or even a janitor. The shootings wouldn’t be happening.
Just my thoughts on the subject! What would stop the teacher becoming the shooter? What happens when a kid steals the gun off him?
What happens if an armed teacher fails to take out a shooter? The reality is "thou shalt not kill" is so ingrained in most people you can't rely on them to shoot back. Plus no one really knows how they'd react, fight or piss pants? I suspect teachers wouldn't want that responsibility.I think everything would die down if the media stopped making these shooters famous advertising who they were and all that. The only time they hide it is when they're black... so much in fact the average normie would think that doesn't even happen.
Don't be daft.
Teachers should be issued guns so they can sell them for something more useful - like school supplies.
That will prevent deaths in school and make less active shooters.
Kids are so bored in school they want to make a GTA out of it to make it more exciting.
Anyone who thinks that 'gun free' zones are doing their job is a spineless troglodyte. Actually, they might actually have a point. Scarily, maybe the zones really are working as intended. Leaving innocent people helpless and giving politicians more bullshit moralizing talking point about saving kids, by leaving even more people defenseless and completely dependent on the government. Anyway, yeah, an armed teacher would save more lives than dozens of idiot cops.
I'll never understand, why, a normal citizen, like me and you, should need a gun, especially an assault style weapon. Soldiers, sure, since they have to endure the perils of war with one but, people like me and you, I will never understand
I have no interest in joining the armed forces. SORRY REPUBLICUCKSI think that would be an obvious yes. The fact that the vitamin manufacturing building up the road for me protects their vitamins incomparably better than most schools protect their children is absolutely laughable.
I really can't get on board there. Many of the looniest blueanon whackjobs out there are teachers. How do we know armed teachers wouldn't be 1000x the danger an isolated reject kid here and there represent?
Teachers need to focus on teaching. Why on earth would you give them guns and expect them to defend students, when grown cops and security officers are scared or run from the danger?
In Olathe Kansas there was a teacher that was armed and a special student aid police officer prevented a mass shooting from a young high School student. There were three people injured. The police officer and an administrative official of the school district. Along with the juvenile the thought he was wronged.
I support everyone's right to bear arms so yes. Although I understand that people would be very uneasy about it because a lot of those teachers are not mentally fit to have such a weapon and would often use it to threaten or outright kill their own students.
Yeah, you do realise we're all laughing at you, across the pond, right?
They should not. However, if a teacher happens to be trained to shoot and desires to carry his/her gun on campus they should be allowed to. And there should be prominent signs that some teachers may be armed and authorized to use deadly force.
A better solution is just have a small number of armed cops/security. I'd be willing to take the small tax hit to pay for this tbh.
Why is this even a discussion? What lunatic thinks it’s a good idea to give every single teacher at a school a gun
Yes, they should be paid a stipend, pass a fire arms competency test and have insurance.
God no. They can barely teach. Cops can't even be trusted with guns.
That would be sheer insanity.
Nope.
