Its already legal here and has been for something like 13 or 15 years. No deaths from it yet... but its only concealed carry, not open carry.
If you show it, you get in trouble.
The idea though is not to confront a shooter, let police do that but go on lockdown first.
Keep in mind they've been remodeling elementary schools for the last two decades to have one entrance, one exit not so much for gun safety but to keep kids from being kidnapped, especially by non custodial parents.
The lockdown idea is trained first, lock doors, take cover only use it if your a teacher or staff member if the attacker is trying to break into your room or shooting and you can do something. This is all optional for staff members and state law prevents administrators from asking who is carrying or not. No way to know if a janitor is, a teacher or a principal.
Yeah that on-duty cop in Florida did such a great job of stopping that shooting in Florida back in 2017. Just stood by and did nothing.
How long before you shoot a mouthy kid who pisses you off.
You ever seen teachers? I went to school back in the fistfight era, and they’d all lose their minds just over a 1 on 1 fight. Absolutely the last people I would expect to take a stand against a shooter. And moreover, I don’t even like seeing guns on cops’ hips. Just creates such an unfriendly vibe, just not the way I’m trying to live my life. Honestly, I’d rather just live carefree and get caught slippin’ that one day, and the ride’s over, rather than live every day looking over my shoulder and being ready to draw.
There are a few teachers I would trust a gun with
Gonna take a lot more than a few, lmao
Sorry sir but what is your solution then because we can’t just have school shooters being able to do this and for the teachers to be totally helpless and not able to defend themselves
Well, that’s the sad news I have to deliver…. there is no answer. The problem is the nature of the human being. We are an absolutely deplorable and despicable animal. I have very little respect for our species. We aren’t worth saving to begin with.
@WhiteSteve. It only takes one armed teacher to defend his/her classroom from assault.
@Lliam to potentially do so, yes. I just think everyone isn’t the Clint Eastwood in reality that they fancy themselves in their daydreams, plus not everyone has the heart to shoot in the first place. Teachers are already leaving the profession at a pretty decent clip, know they have to be range-certified to do the job? It’s like 75% women, bro, I think you’re assuming a lot of people. Not saying women are incapable, but I think it’s fair to say that stuff isn’t up the alley of most ladies I’ve known. (Pretty sure Sister McGuirk, my high school chemistry teacher, would’ve put a bullet in me, though, if not for the whole “being a nun” thing😂)
The other thing is, during Covid I heard some “what about the children?” talk regarding masks in schools, and people were saying it was bad for the kids to not see moving lips or facial expressions, I forget exactly, but something like that. I’m of the mind that every teacher having a hip holster or having a shotgun on the wall of the classroom isn’t so great for their developing minds either. Call me crazy. It’s not the guns, it’s not mental health, not anywhere near as much as this INSANE mentality where the stakes are “death”, whether you’re right or wrong, whether you’re on the offensive or on the defensive. This is absolutely CRAZY in a supposedly civilized society.
Israel does it, and for them, it does work. I believe Russia after the Beslan school massacre (STILL the largest school massacre in history), has pondered the idea.

Yes. There is no reason why teachers of all people wouldn't be capable of learning how to safely handle and operate a handgun. The tactics aren't rocket science, either.
It should absolutely not be mandatory to be armed, but carrying concealed should be allowed.
So picture this. A teacher is in class and hears gunshots outside. The students have been trained what to do if that happens. They all move against the wall behind the door, get in a duck and cover position, and remain silent.
The teacher takes cover behind his/her desk and aims his firearm at the door. If an assailant tries to enter, the teacher fires at him. I guarantee that the assailant will get the hell out of there and look for an easier target.
Whether or not your average school teacher is even capable of defending himself from an active shooter is debatable. It takes more than a firearm to neutralize a deadly threat. It takes training, and the school isn't going to pay for that. They can't even be bothered to pay for basic security measures now, which is why schools are easy targets for psychopaths. Without training, your odds of winning a gun fight are 20/80, and you're the 20. The guy on a rampage has already resolved himself to killing human beings. Have you? Will you hesitate to do so? The bad gets to choose where and when the confrontation happens. Will you be ready always and everywhere? Will you even recognize the danger in time? That kind of training takes time and money, and the only force in the city that can reliably provide that is the police. You need armed police at schools. People's whose only job is to stop bad guys. That is not a teacher's job.
The shooters don't have training. They just have access to shooting fish in a barrel in gun-free zones.
There is no reason in the world why "average" citizens (non police) can't be perfectly competent in defending a classroom against some fucking kid who tries to enter the door to murder people.
And training isn't that expensive. Most people who conceal carry pay for their own training. It's not a big deal.
@Lliam The shooters don't have training, but they do have stealth and surprise on their side, which already puts them at huge advantage. People don't show up to school and expect to be shot at, and people don't watch every other person who enters the school to look for hidden weapons or a mind set to kill. You probably won't see the bad guy coming, that's why YOU need training. You are fighting from a deficit right out of the gate. And claiming "training isn't that expensive" just tells me you've never paid for training. It's very expensive, and even if it wasn't expensive the school is gonna be to cheap to foot the bill anyways. Everyone who carries a gun should get training, but it's gonna have to be on your own dime. For the kids who can't be armed, we need armed police.
I've had plenty of training, dude. Many people who own guns get training. And they do it of their own accord. They don't need someone else to foot the bill. It's not THAT expensive.
Why would a school pay for training if it wasn't requiring teachers to be armed? The question was, "Should teachers be 'allowed' to carry guns on campus?"
From my standpoint, teachers don't need to learn how to be quick draws. All a teacher has to do is defend their own classroom against intrusion by an armed assailant. And that's no different than defending your home from an armed assailant. You take cover and aim at the point of entry.
I would not want my child to be in a school with armed teachers. The chances of a school shooter are. Much lower than having an accident with that gun that harms children in another way. Teacher responds in an untrained way. Teacher responds inappropriately to child at the school. Child takes teacher’s gun and does harm to other students and/or other students. Teacher uses gun otherwise against other teachers/parents. I have seen the most ardent gun owners be the same people who end up in violent road rage in idents or conflicts. Having the gun raises their readiness for conflict, even if the other party is unarmed.
No, you don’t want that because students could take it away from the teacher, it would be distracting to secure it, lots of teachers aren’t trained to handle firearms, and there are issues with legal and financial liability.
And I’m someone who supports responsible firearm ownership by private citizens.
Absolutely... allow teachers to carry. Only don't bother with that "Notice" sign! Someone shows up with a gun intending harm to kids, just nail them and avoid the court costs, the police time, lawyers, etc...
I know a few teachers and from having been to school I wouldn't trust most teachers to handle a stappler let alone a firearm.
If teachers were allowed to carry firearms school shootings would go through the roof usually through accidental discharge of their firearm and occasionally a teacher losing his or her shit at a pupil.
No. It's ridiculous. Teachers should be focused on teaching only, not being armed in a classroom potentially being bodyguards.
America just needs to strictly enforce gun laws nationwide.
Assault rifles can only be sold to 30 year olds and older, ban abortion nationwide and promote family vaules, and heavily invest into local and nationwide healthcare where people struggling with mental illness can get access to doctors for free.
Yeah, sounds good in theory, but are you going to pay those teachers to be practicing regularly at the shooting range?
Also, lets be honest, the average person does not have what it takes to kill another human being, and no they won't be "shooting to wound" - you aim for the centre of mass to kill. Most people won't' be able to aim under pressure as it is.
What America needs is some decent mental health care, and much stricter gun laws.
It will not change what happen he had body armor stopping people to get guns if they want to do crap like this, they will buy a stolen gun of the back streets all you can do is make it harder to get them and if they want assault rifle, they need go through mental health counselling and they have to pay for it
No guns on campus. And no guns in society unless your out hunting. That how you stop shootings and why you rarely have them in other countries than usa. A country full of people who are afraid and ignorant. A very dangerous combination.
Fate is tricky. you hold a gun for your own safety but whoever puts their hand on it, could be for their own safety or their own plans of everyone's demise around them :)
I was thinking each teacher could have a gun safe with their own individual codes. I am actually applying for principal soon and will be putting this on my resume.
No. Too many teachers are irresponsible and them having a gun on campus would only cause some kids to get their hands on it and cause more injuries and death much more often than from school shootings.
I think it would be better if they were armed policemen who made rounds in the school rather than arms teacher...
In France we have policemen that made round in the school and around it. They usually not armed though.
you know there is no right answer to this, one side wants to keep guns and use them to defend rights the other wants to get rid of them.
either way, we are in trouble. any crazy person is gonna find a way to kill others no matter what we may or may not be carrying with us too.
maybe getting guns off the streets may help part of the problem. but while the politicians are yelling at each other of what is right and wrong our kids are dying in front of us.
It should be voluntary, the teacher should be covered by insurance and there should be a stipend for doing it.
Don't be daft.
Teachers should instead be better trained to spot the signs of kids being bullied and on mental edge.
Teachers are teachers and not trained psychiatrists or psychologists. They can’t diagnose mentally Ill students. As a matter of fact even prorfessionals struggle to give proper diagnosis sometimes.
I think that perhaps it's time that it become a requirement, along with training.
I'd also suggest that schools implement a wall and a gate with an armed guard. Maybe some exit only emergency doors.
That boy who shot up the school is some weird tranny fag. Anytime a grown ass man wants to dress up as a woman that's a sign of mental illness. And yes teachers should carry guns
Facts America is trying to normalize these weirdos
Yeah schools should allow teachers and staff members to open carry. I'm not sure who is the genius that thought schools should be a gun free zone
What do you think they would have been able to do that the three police officers that encountered him before he got into the school couldn't?
Some teachers who are comfortable with firearms and trained, not all. And they need to be concealed carrying.
All Americans should carry firearms. Children should be taught how to use them with classes.
Damn that’s Call of duty Pro Lobby stuff ryt there😂 I mean yeah this is a tragedy but bro was catching bodies goddamn Pooh shiesty ain’t got shit on Salvador sliming spree
Stupid idea. What is to stop a kid from getting ahold of it? Nothing like making guns MORE available to unstable kids.
So then we run the risk of any teacher getting angry and shooting up the school.
It wouldn't solve any problems and they're not paid enough to do so any way
Only if they have proper training and make it to the range on a regular basis.
If the NRA conventions won't allow guns why should schools?
Yes, and schools need to start allowing armed security guards.
Welcome on board son.
If they can prove they’re trained to use and store them properly, sure
Maybe if so-called Christians became ACTUAL Christians, our nation wouldn't BE in this mess. But since we ARE, teachers and admins SHOULD be carrying
Now I know where you got your user name... lol
No. Too many abusive teachers.
Not "allowed" - REQUIRED.
Shouldn’t be the case
new Laws should be made
of course.
Absolutely
Yes they should
Hell no.
yes why not
