Has the NRA run its course and gone over its usefulness?

I was an NRA member for over 20 years, but I haven't kept up with them for the last 10-15 years.

Even though I haven't kept up, I think most people don't understand what the NRA is. The NRA is NOT a lobbying group. For most of it's history it did not even have a lobbying branch. It only created a lobbying branch to counter lobbyists from the other side.

The NRA since it's inception has been an association for people who use guns. This includes both professionals and hobbyists. A very high percentage of NRA members are police and military.

The NRA is about shooting sports. The NRA is about gun safety. The NRA is about collecting. The NRA is about education. Most of all, the NRA is an association of people who use firearms or have an interest in them.

An organization like that is still useful. So it has not gone over it's usefulness.

Do I agree with everything the NRA does? Nope. Do I like the leadership of the NRA? Nope. Wayne LaPierre has been the head of the NRA for over 30 years and I have never liked him. However I do think the NRA has a purpose. I do think it's still relevant.

Most people know nothing about the NRA because they get their information from extremely biased sources.

The NRA has been infiltrated and compromised and as a result has lost much of their usefulness. Therefore, people should drop their NRA membership and join the Gun Owners of America.
