Do you think the government would be honest about torture’s effectiveness in war? How do we know the government doesn’t torture frequently for intel?

The effectiveness of torture doesn’t seem relevant as opposed to whether or not the appropriate authorities are honest about it.

Imagine if all the intel we get in regards to terrorism is retrieved from torturing.

Would the government be honest in this?

If torture was 100% effective, why would the government ever be honest about this? They have every single reason to be tactical and downplay the effectiveness of torture or fabricate facts about it.

They are doing it now without the need for intel.

The January 6 visitors to the Capital that were invited in with open arms by the Capital Police are still in prison, a year and one half later, without the 48 hour hearing required, not allowed to see an attorney or make phone calls/visits from family and the required within 6 months trial conducted, violating all constitutional rights of US Citizens.

TORTURE 1 (in addition to the above): Some who have serious Claustrophobia are being purposely put into so solitary confinement in a 8' x 10' cell with toilets overflowing sewage onto the floor without repair.

TORTURE 2: One male prisoner was beaten so badly by guards that he has lost one eye

TORTURE 3: One male prisoner was raped

What everyone has been asking and what no one knows is that all this is being done totally legally.

In the US Constitution - Article1, Section 8, Clause 17, it allows for Congress to be a "Plenary Government", which means it does not have to abide by the US Constitution within the "Washington DC" borders... nice, isn't it.

So the answer to your question is, yes, if you want to torture anyone, including US Citizens, just bring them to Washington DC to do it.

I think "real" torture is probably fairly effective. I also think most governments in the world will be willing to do it in some circumstances. The politicians might get squeamish about it, but I think in most countries there are people within the intel and military communities who will approve it, and maybe carry it out themselves.

I've always had the impression that prisoners under serious torture eventually break down. Of course like all intel, it has to be coupled with other information and evaluated for accuracy. It's often about tiny bits and pieces of a puzzle that collectively form a fuzzy picture.

The other side of the coin is the same way. Thing A is not secure. Thing B is not secure. But Thing A and Thing B together becomes secure. The trick is putting it all together.

If someone is tortured and begins to talk, they might try to hold back on something important. But what they do say can have value when combined with other information.

Abu Ghraib would not have been discovered if the government had it's way. Even then the US wiggled it's way out of admitting full responsibility.

Even civil police interrogation gives too many false positives to be effective. Torture anyone they will tell you whatever you want to hear and bad/incorrect information is astronomically worse then no information at all.

Again, we don’t know what torture methods the government (SOF—Classified military/CIA) would use against their enemies because it would never be released to be studied, documented, etc.

Again, we do not know.

Torture could be 100% effective, but since actual real-life documentation and study is not abundant (for obvious reasons) we will not and may not ever know.
