Do people really not know that the Republican party was founded for the express purpose of abolishing slavery, and that the very first Republican president kept the party’s promise to abolish race based slavery? Do people not know that the first class of black congressional representatives were all Republicans? Do people not know that Republicans sponsored and passed multiple civil rights acts before future Democrat presidents Kennedy and Johnson shut Eisenhower’s attempt down in the 50s because they wanted the glory for themselves in the 60s? I think Democrats are so hyper racialized in the modern era because they are simultaneously embarrassed at the racism of their slaveholding ancestors as well as mad that they can’t own slaves today because Republicans won’t let them.

The republican party to which you refer is the Democratic-Republicans founded by Thomas Jefferson. In short, they were referred to as the "Republicans". Abraham Lincoln was the last of them before the party fractured. Democrats became southern conservatives and Republicans were the northern liberals. In the mid 20th century, the parties were so similar that people were concerned that our democracy was in crisis with effectively one political party.

That 150 year old "history" has little connection to today's political parties.

Absolutely. Their party affiliation and their hatred of black people is what brings them together. Try, just try to step outside your propaganda fueled biases for just a moment. I know that is difficult for people on the left, but all the same, you might learn something that starts to unravel other “facts” or “truths” you hold dear.

More along the lines of dismay that there are so many people who don’t know their history and are gullible enough to fall for the propaganda attacks. I’m not so sure there was a core switch, just a propaganda switch. Huge Democrat cities still hate minorities just like they always have, Biden still hero worships an avowed senior Klansman (Robert Byrd), and even a biracial Democrat couldn’t get prison reform done like the very next president (a Republican) did. Trump even got an anti-racism award from Al Sharpton because he’s such a racist. President Johnson is on record making racist statements as a sitting President. The common theme here is their party affiliation and true colors showing through.
