My uncle is far left and has very immaturely isolated himself from most of his family JUST over politics. He will insult family and former friends without provocation if they voted for Trump or are open about their conservative views. He’s still holding on to this grudge despite Trump being out of office for 1.5 years now.

I also have an ex girlfriend who used to be a moderate liberal who moved to LA and became radically liberal. Despite ending our relationship on sad but understandable circumstances (attraction was fading on both sides) we did have a very close personal connection. But she saw me as scum of the earth for no valid reason other then being a moderate conservative. She didn’t start that way when we first dated.

One of my oldest friends married a moderate feminist, who started slowly pushing him in that direction. As with many of them, however, she wwas the type who couldn't stand ANY form of criticism of her political ideals, taking it as a personal attack. Onge she figured out I couldn't be browbeaten into silence, she just stopped bringing up politics, and in one-on-one interactions, I could steul him back with "Come on, man, think it through" and simple discussions.

But her health took a turn for the worse, and she couldn't handle Chicago winters anymore. So they moved, for some reason, to Texas, where, surrounded by crazy Republicans and reasonable conservative folks wdo didn't object to crazy Republican ideas, he was pushed further and further into the "Right=bad, Left=good" mentality, and Covid basically broke his connection with reality.

My uncle lives in a very conservative state too and is surrounded by conservatives. I told him he should try living in a shithole Democrat city like south Chicago, San Francisco, Los Ángeles and even many parts Denver is turning into a shit hole thanks to liberals.
