I dont think any person on GAG can give you a correct answer as this matter concerns the Geneva Convention and whether these two men were belonging to a recognized and legal party of the war, if they were part of a organized armed forces, resistance, militia, and NOT a saboteur or spy, and if these men were in clear uniforms displaying their rank, names and affiliations. If conditions are men then hey are PoWs and accorded all rights associated with the same including eventual repatriation to first Ukraine and then USA.

@Fuentes It doesn't matter that the Russian ruble is undervalued because Russia has quite much a self-sufficient economy, an industrial park that meets a good part of their national needs and what they need they can get from the best ally a country can have: its neighbor China, which is not going to abandon them anytime soon and their commerce is based on both the Renminbi and the Russian ruble, it's not reliant on the US dollar.
Germany is not going to surpass Russia in military strength anytime soon, for the reason that Germany will get impoverished without cheap Russian energy, which will be redirected to Asia and strengthen the biggest competitors Europe have.

Prevent soldiers from fighting in the Ukraine. Both of them will probably be executed because Russia sees them as militia and not as legal soldiers. The Russians won´t care much about any conventions made in the past so I think chances that they come back to the US is pretty low. History repeats itself just as the Germans killed anyone that fought against them in WW2 Russia is now doing the same.

I'm sorry no offense and with all do respect, I'm from a military family and, they voluntarily went there! Nobody asked or deployed them to do that. It pissed me off when I heard that some of the brothers in uniform, went there. My veteran family members are proudly retired. Common sense will tell you, don't go there unless it's an absolute threat to the United States!
We don't negotiate with terrorists and they knew what they signed up for. The US could always get off our asses and actually fight this war instead of just sending aid.
