I have mixed feelings about gated communities. If you find one with HOA (Home Owner Association) rules that you like and agree with, then maybe it's worth knowing your neighbors will live up to your same standards.
Otherwise, I see it as living under more bureaucracy, an additional financial cost, and at the very least having an us vs them mentality.

It's only worth it if you live in the city or you like having someone micromanage you. As someone who lives in the country, I'll pass.
Considering how much chaos there is nowadays, certain gated communities definitely offer extra security and peace of mind.
However gated communities means that all the neighbors will be extra close to each other when compared to a regular neighborhood. There might even be more rules you’d have to follow.
Why.. Why would you. You want sets of rules? What you can plant, how many lights you can put on your house during Christmas, how many nails and pictures you can have. You really want that?
