Well, I mean, the most obvious reason is because it makes their side, and particularly their guy, look bad.

Look, I try the best I can to be understanding of people and give them grace. And I think it’s fair to say there are differing degrees between “Trump voters”, ”Trump supporters”, and “Trump fanatics.” Trump fanatics are really who I’m referring to, I don’t want to unfairly broad-brush all Republicans. I think it was those fanatics who showed up at the Capitol that day. Even if those people, I’m sure many came only with the intent of rattling the cage a bit. I bet many got inside the building and were kind of like “OK, so…now what?”

All that said, some people DID violently engage with the Capitol police and supporting officers, and many people DID come all strapped up and ready for conflict, helmets and goggles and even American flags with the point of the pole sharpened. An FBI informant from the Proud Boys said they were going to kill Pence and Pelosi if they got to them.

The investigation committee is BEAUTIFULLY laying out everything that happened with regard to the election fraud claims, all of these things are just getting debunked through under oath testimony from people who actually know, not some idiot from TV or the Internet just perpetuating baseless claims, in the 2020s, where information travels at astronomical speed throughout the people of the country and the world, and rumors or outright lies can become perceived fact within minutes. And people seem dumber than ever, lmao, like they were actually believing some Italian guy’s software was altering votes via satellite…. I mean, you can’t make this stuff up😂😂😂

Anyway, point is, Trump seems to have apparently pushed this whole misinformation campaign to cast doubt over the election. But now the actual facts of the investigations are coming out, not just some goofy ass propaganda documentary, and everything is getting debunked. Suitcase of ballots in Georgia? Nope, just the case they hold the ballots in. So says Republican, Trump-appointed US attorney Pak of Georgia, again, under oath and penalty of perjury. Truck full of shredded ballots? Investigated, didn’t happen. Michigan voting machine with 68% miscalculation rate? Nope. Investigated, literally ONE miscalculation, .00638% rate of something. Some state, I forget which one, but they claimed 40,000 ballots were cast by dead people. Investigated, nope, actual number of legitimately fraudulent votes was FOUR. Single digits. And there’s even more I don’t even care to type out. The moral of the story is that it’s become BLATANTLY obvious that Trump is full of shit, knew the election wasn’t stolen, attempted to flood the zone with misinformation to drive a narrative and whip up his supporters. His supporters got duped and used. No one should be more mad about any of this than them. He knowingly lied and made tens of millions of Americans think they were defrauded out of their votes. It’s not crazy that some people responded in a dramatic way. Do I think these people are gullible and blinded by their own bias? Sure. Any reasonable Republican should be firmly out on Trump now, though. He’s a bad look for the party, if nothing else. But he’s very clearly a fraud. A good deal of us realized that in like 2015, lmao, but whatever, some people take longer to catch on. But if you’re still riding the Trump train, I don’t know how you do it. There are many possible different reasons. At best it is the "head in the sand" trope. They don't see any connection between their simple desire to make sure it's okay to hit gay/brown people and a violent coup, and they don't want to see the connection. So they just ignore the problem. They can't imagine themselves trying to overturn democracy and so it must just be a coincidence that so many people who otherwise completely agree with them politically ended up on that path at the same time and place.

Another reason is disillusionment, but not the useful kind. These tend to be the sort that were definitely caught up the fantasy of political violence but, like women who engage in rape fantasies, obviously never had any intention of going through with it. And to hear of the realities of those who made such a mess of going through with it, that fantasy has suffered a setback in its satisfaction to contemplate. But they don't to suffer that setback, so they perhaps take a hiatus on the fantasies of political violencr while ignoring the J6 situation until the whole thing goes away and they can go back to dreaming of hitting people who point out they are wrong.

Another, similar to the prior, is disappointment. Some wanted it to succeed are are just irritated fewer showed up than what was needed - this of course doesn't mean they wish they had showed up: they seriously bought in to the misinformation that they are the silent majority and so don't see why there weren't millions of people (again, not including themselves) invading the capitol. They see it as the only redeeming quality of allowing low class trump supporters into the party: there was a tacit agreement that, because they are failure class, they will be the "muscle" in charge of of securing the power and tax cuts of upper class conservatives with violence. And they failed even that. These people of course aren't interested in how they failed.

Then there are those who just aren't aware that it happened. Jordan Klepper has a new piece where he showed J6 footage to trump supporters. Kinda fun but obviously a skewed sample for comedy.

If you were planning to overthrow the government, would you have purchased a bus ticket back home , after your trip? Only a very small number of people at this protest actually entered the capital building. They went up to the doors and the capital police opened the doors and actually held them open for everyone. 1. Videos were faked after the event and released later to make it look like there were a bunch of violent people attacking cops which did NOT happen. I watched the live streaming videos at the time from multiple people streaming it. They were having conversations with the police and the police moved the barriers and waved the people in. Those have since been deleted from YouTube and other platforms and the users blocked. I had many saved in my playlists and they are all gone.

Then the government put up barricades to block the view and a couple months after the event, suddenly there are videos of lots of violence that did NOT happen.

The only bad part I saw that actually did happen was when they tried breaking down a door and an UNARMED WHITE Air Force veteran woman was shot dead by police for trying to get in the door. That is often ignored by media because she was White.

There was no leader of the pack saying this government must go in favor of another. This was a protest against a bogus election. The entrance into the capital building was a stupid mistake by a bunch of people following the lead of a planted FBI informant. The entrance into the building was planned by the left and the Trump supporters were dumb enough to participate after it started. There was no violence against any elected officials. There were no guns that entered the capitol. One protestor died because she was shot while unarmed and posing no direct threat to the person who shot her. The capitol police officer that died had a heart attack. So no direct violence on him.

Compare that to the riots in the summer of 2020. That's right, there is no comparison. The riots destroyed property in the billions of dollars, killed and injuries people at a ridiculous level. These riots were pure evil, while the capitol invasion was like a teenage prank in comparison.

A vast majority of those people were let in by police. These people weren't trying to make a coup, they were protesting.

And BLM has done worse things before, many times. As one example, BLM barricaded a federal courthouse, trapping federal officers inside and then tried to light the building on fire.

To repeat, this is a federal building, not a state building. So this is very much so the FBI's problem, but did the FBI do anything about it? Or were they "shot dead"? No. Nothing happened. But with January 6 they put people into cosnolitary confinement.

Saint George Floyd's death spurred a 2 billion dollar multiple week long riot that ended up burning and costing all major cities in America around 2 billion dollar in damages. Mostly black owned business's, in cities ran by black elected officials, policed by black police chiefs. Whereas the Jan 6 looked a lot more like a guided tour than an insurrection. The main figurehead being a shirtless man wearing an animal head and an American flag for a cape. Not quite a similar comparison or a genuine one.

I think they see it as a big deal. But, why did it have to happen? The democrats refused to have proper security there. Why? Trump authorized 20,000 national guards. Pelosi turned it down. Why? It wasn't a coup no matter how much the media claims it was. If it were a coup you would know, they would have brought guns and they would have used them. It was a protest, and many of the police literally opened the gates for them to walk in. When inside they all basically just took a tour, they didn't destroy anything.
