Do Americans believe their “leaders” are telling them the truth?

I am a U. S. citizen and recently found myself with an opportunity to here an honest opinion about what people from outside of our country think of us. The general opinion is that we know that our government is corrupt and does horrible things, but we would rather ignore those things and are okay with them as long as we are unable to see any of it. Out of sight, out of mind I suppose.

Some people were shocked at this idea that we would be do something like that, but I’m not entirely sure that they didn’t hit the nail right on the head. On the other hand, an organized and wealthy community of corrupt people would have invested a significant amount of resources into researching how to maintain their authoritative position in this world.

I can say first hand that these people are brilliant in their ability to control what the masses believe about the world through the media and the extreme censorship that takes place. They have created a nation of easily distracted and frightened people who actually believe that their abuser is actually their protector.

The vast majority of time I don't. Because the simple truth is that money and power are corrupting influences. Due to that corruption in any form of government is going to something that will occur and it's the citizens of any government job to seek it out and remove it from their government. Because of how divisive and focused on infighting our government has been for generations the American government has become a breeding ground for corruption.

Simply because the majority of people have been kept divided, distracted and too busy fighting each other to do their job as citizens of their government. So at this point our elected officials might as well be required to wear Nascar style jackets with logo's for every corporate and financial interest that are funding their campaigns. That way it's easy to see who they are speaking for and who really is in control.

We live in a country where our elected officials retire from office and then take jobs at investment firms. Where elected officials are heavily financially invested in the some industries they are supposed to regulate. Where a career politicians are able to amass several million dollar fortunes while not paying paid enough to amass the amount of wealth the end up with while in office. So the only nice way to say it is that they get rich via blatant conflicts of interests. But you want to be honest via the misuse of our joke of campaign finance laws and insider trading using the information they gather while in office.

No. Why do you think Trump was elected? Everyone knows Trump lies everytime he opens his mouth. Especially his supporters. It's the result of decades disenfranchisement and anger of feeling voiceless. Trump is the embodiment of, "well if I can't fix it I'm going to turn the whole corrupt system on it's head". Trump voters don't like him they like the fact that he has no real conscience and therefore can't be muzzled or contained. Because you can't shame a person with no real conscience. Look at the hearings right now. Look at the last election. The Repulican politicians don't even like him. But he's like flame. A controlled flame can heat your entire house or it can burn your entire house down. The Republicans have to support him (until Republican voter sentiment changes) or lose a majority of their voter support and ultimately their elected seat. They know there will be a reckoning. Which is why they don't want to get to close to Trump but still support him.

Based on poll data about how many people refused to buy into USG positions on the pandemic and Ukraine, at least 13% of Americans don’t trust the government whether it is Democrats or Republicans holding office. There are probably more than this, too. Perhaps a quarter.
