Why is it so common for Americans to lie about their political views?

And most especially Christian Americans? My Armenian family are "centrist, apolitical" but they're all hurrah for far-right figures like Andrew Tate. And weirdly enough, I'm a traditional conservative

like my family is Armenian but they are American citizens so they keep up with American news and politics, and they claim to me they don't watch the news.

Like exitseven said, conservatives / republicans are frequently targeted by corporations and other people for who knows why. Maybe they believe in all the false claims the media spreads about conservatives. I don't know. Because of that, people who are right of center hide their political affiliation until it's time to vote. My parents told me to always select "No Party" at the DMV or when filling out any legal document that asks for my political affiliation. Liberals don't have this problem. They can spread their hatred as much as they want with no consequences.

A lot of people that are conservatives are afraid to let anyone know because they might lose their jobs or denied service at a restaurant,. I worked in higher education and am a Trump supporter. I felt like I had a target on my back.

I have a Trump bumper sticker and I had a Lawn sign that said Trump 2020 on it. I have no problem letting people know.

Because they don’t want to be targeted for their beliefs. I work with a lot of leftists who go on day after day about how evil right wing people are. I know if they found out about my beliefs they would try to get me fired. So I just smile and nod along.

In Australia it's becoming so hostile to be white or conservative. You can easily lose your job and become unemployable based on your political views. We are adopting a "there are consequences for saying the wrong things" type of attitude towards excusing violence or threats of even though most of us are secretly conservative. You need to be careful and not reveal your hand to the wrong people these days.

I don't think they lie but rather American politics is too diverse which causes people to a little bit confused on how to approach their politics.

One party is almost always against what the other political party wants.

There's no balance to American politics, it's either this or that and it makes people look like they don't know what they want politically.
