Do you think this police shooting was justified (Patrick Lyoya)?

If you try to take away a cop's weapon, they're going to use force - very likely lethal force - to stop you, and that's as it should be.
A tazer is a "less lethal" weapon - meaning it's LESS likely to kill than a conventional gun - but it doesn't mean it isn't lethal. Plus, if a suspect is able to taze a cop, he could then take his real gun and kill the cop and other innocents. Cops are, by policy, required to do everything in their power to prevent this from happening.
As ANY lawyer will tell you, the CORRECT response is to let the cops detain or arrest you as they will, and let your lawyer (even if that's a public defender) argue your position afterwards. If the police did things wrong, the evidence will get tossed, and that usually invalidates the entire case against you. And if you really didn't do anything wrong, usually the worst that's going to happen to you is a couple of nights in a holding cell.
The whole idea that you can fight your way out of an arrest, and not put your life at risk, is ridiculous. If you play deadly games, you're going to win deadly prizes.
I'm not saying that all cops are perfect, but when cops have to face people like this during their day-to-day jobs (and they do, far too often), then you can't be surprised when it occasionally goes very badly. It should be EXPECTED, and the blame should, by default, be placed on the suspect. Very, very few problems occur when a suspect is cooperating - it almost ALWAYS occurs when the suspect has been extremely uncooperative.
A taser is most DEFINITELY a lethal weapon if being used against a guy who's carrying an actual gun (which a cop is) so yeah--he needs to stop you immediately.
For fuck's sake people--it ain't that hard: if a cop tells you to stop, you stop. Get down on the ground and put your hands out. You can bitch and moan about how you're being mistreated when you speak to your lawyer and sue someone's ass off then if it's warranted. Your goal in the encounter with the cop should be the same as your goal in ANY encounter with a guy WITH A FUCKING GUN--try not to die.
Jesus!
thanks for most helpful.
To be honest, cops don't need a justification to kill you, they just will and they're friends will cover their asses.
The cop was fired and was charged
Well the thing is in this certain case, if you’re the cop, do you let him taser you? Walk away?
To be honest, no. As a former cop. Cops thought each other under the bus plenty to save their own skins.
You’re ACAB?
Are you an ACAB person
That's because you don't see what happens behind the scenes. Or you fail to want to see the truth.
It's how I got fired. Two other cops pulled guns, no shots ever fired. but yet somehow I was thrown under the bus and fired. Happens a lot.
And because of the jo s cops do. And people they deal with. Taking any weapon from a cop is considered an assualt witch then can be met with deadly force.
Or, don't be a criminal and you won't get shot.
if you take an officers weapon then your already far beyond the justified range of lethal violence

I reserve the right to defend myself against law enforcement. If you try to taser me, or even trying to arrest me in the first place, you clearly do not have my best interests and well-being in mind, and at that point, you have put me in a life or death conflict with you. I’m not going to treat you any different because you’re a cop. You are now an enemy of my freedom, and will be treated as such.
You can take it to court and cash in a paycheck if they discriminated against you for being white.
Nah, fuck anything that’s a “process” or organized. Step up and get laid down, or else you’d better lay me down first. I’m not looking to talk this out. One of us is gonna go, either you or me.
Why the hell would a cop have your personal safety in mind when you are resisting arrest? Why do people think that police should hit people in the head with a sponge, wrap them in bubble wrap, hug them and give them a cup of cocoa?
You’re a fucking criminal. The cops stopped you for a reason. Fuck around and find out. They’ll crack your fucking head open like an egg. You’re not winning that fight.
You can think you’re some righteous force for good all you want. That guy with a badge can shoot your goddamn head off and get an award for it. Who cares who is right. There are more of them than you. A lot more. And they are better armed. You either shut the fuck up and comply, or you end up a grease spot on the ground.
But go on and think you can fight back and win. 😂
@Agagagagaga I choose the righteous death against the tyrrany of imposed laws, bud. This is my life, nobody makes my rules. I do what I want or you can kill me, simple as that. Fuck your pussy ass cops who need weaponry to win. Square up like a fucking man. Otherwise, I choose “grease spot” over living life under that.
@Agagagagaga I can promise you one thing: I don’t do ANYTHING under the premise of “shut the fuck up and comply.” Give your balls a tug if you believe in that.
You’re ACAB?
Nah, I wouldn’t say that. Leave me alone and I leave you alone. I’d say I more just think it’s audacious of anyone to believe we should be forcefully controlling people’s behavior, and particularly audacious to think that you yourself should be personally involved in imposing this, whether you’re the police, the DA, the judge, the probation officer, or the prison warden. I guess the root of it is that I’m not at all married to “society as we know it”, in fact I’d say most of the existing societies on earth are “doing it wrong”, other than the few remaining small tribes living as nature intended us to. Anything outside of that is folly, to me. I understand the idea is comfort and security and prosperity and positive outcomes in our lives, but the hard truth is that we have absolutely zero entitlement to any of those things, and I don’t believe they were ever meant to be pursued in anything beyond the individual.
*in any way beyond the individual
Let's get your facts straight. The taser is NOT a lethal weapon. As Wikipedia explains "
The TASER device is a less-lethal, not non-lethal, weapon, since the possibility of serious injury or death exists whenever the weapon is deployed."
Based on that knowledge, it is not appropriate for a police officer to use deadly force when the man had a taser.
The last thing a cop wants is to have his weapon taken away from him. If he was attacked with the taser it would have made it easy to disarm him and possible kill him with his own weapon.
I know of a local cop who was hit with a rock and knocked unconscious. The attacker took his sidearm and killed him with it. A woman was watching from her front door and the attacker killed her too.
First of all, that goes against protocol.
Why didn't he call for backup?
Why not let the guy run away and catch him later? It's completely possible.
He could've backed up and see if the guy would attack him.
Also, why am I not affected from seeing someone shot anymore?
You reach for a tazer, you are asking for it. The only thing you should reach for in such a situation... is a lawyer.
Yes. That’s crazy. You don’t try to kill a police officer…
Less trash on the street
The officer was justified. He's only being prosecuted because he's in that shifty blue state called Mishitgan. I mean Michigan
i think you'd have to be mentally ill to defend that cop.
If your fighting with a cop I say he can shoot you and its 100% your fault
That is for the courts to decide.
I have been called in for jury
Sorry to hear that, that's a kick in the teeth.
