Why do people use or waste their money on drugs?

I wish to know why

Are we referring to pharmaceutical medications which are prescribed by a licensed physician or illegal substances? You have to look into the idea of the psychological situation of the individual and their environments. People turn to drugs , alcohol or any other vice to either escape reality, relieve stress or many other factors. The type of drug determines the desire for it.

For example: Weed has multiple reasons why people reach for it but especially used like a sedative ton either relax or help one find an easier way to boost hunger especially for cancer patients who received chemotherapy and the treatment’s side effect is nausea or loss of appetite.

So it depends on the drug and the individual who use it and their lifestyle/ environment

They feel good momentarily…because there’s a hollowness that we all know about…that most can relate too…an internal incompletion. In the beginning, elicit substances and activities fill that thing…but ultimately make that hole 🕳 twice as wide and deep.

They turn to drugs to relieve themselves for some time. It's also an addiction so the brain can barely function without it.

Joking aside, you're talking narcotics, not "drugs" in general.

People don't waste anything. They want something for the money they are giving. Usually to get over the problems judgmental people like you are causing.

Illegal drugs? They think it's easier to forget their problems (which won't go away), and then they are stuck with both the original problem AND several more that the drug addiction creates!

Legal drugs? If we ate better and cleaner foods, and got more exercise, we could probably eliminate or at least drastically reduce our legit Rx use too.

Escapism. They aren't happy in their sober lives, so they use the drugs as a way to escape that feeling.

Is anything recreational a waste of money to you?  It is a waste to you. If someone enjoys the cost to benefit ratio of drug use then it isn't a waste to them.
