Do some American citizens not understand that the current welfare system is meant to help single mothers and struggling families in times of need?

sure the current welfare system has many flaws and loopholes. which can cause issues for people trying to seek help at times.

but the general idea is to help those in need with basic living expenses like housing, energy bills, health care, day care, cell phones, public transportation, even abortions in some places, etc.

at little or no cost to them because it's primarily funded by federal and state collected tax dollars. but people on the services are typically required to still have some kind of job on the books to continue getting help.

mostly meant this as a post for those who are now saying that because of Roe v Wade getting overturned. who's going to help all those new mothers that can't abort their mistakes (babies) from their poor choice making with hookup culture. even though most abortion clinics also give out low cost or free birth control for those who can't afford it.

but I know the system if faulted since some people will abuse it to collect from it most of their lives and making it harder for others.

It's also an incredibly female oriented system. I brok my arm and wrist in a very bad accident, I needed multiple surgeries and had to have screws and plates put in my arm.. I could not work. I tried to see if I could get some temporary support for the 6 months my arm would be useless, and was told that if I don't have a vagina I was not permitted any help.

ya welfare typically won't help single guys if they don't have children to care for or at least they get put on the bottom of the list of names.

Sad to say but, I know people that their goal in life was to get a welfare check each month so they could enjoy life without a job getting in the way

They may understand it but they're opposed to it. What really is hypocritical is that many so-called pro-lifers are against welfare. They're selfish people who only care about themselves and want to take away people's bodily autonomy.

They are also meant to be short term. But the issue is that people do not use them as short term programs. So it's time to put strict time limits on them. So people can no longer stay on welfare programs indefinitely.

ya sadly one of the worst loopholes is if they have at least 1 child under age 10 they can remain on benefits. so many will continue to pop out a new child from different fathers every few years to collect benefits and child support payments.

I was raised by a single mother who has had cancer and a lot of complications with it since she was in her teens. My mother, younger bother and I where never on any kind of welfare while my bother and I where growing up. The only reason that my mother is even on social security disability now is due to her breast cancer coming back, spread to other areas and has been diagnosed as terminal. So I'll 100% honest, I look down on those that are on welfare long term and don't have a legitimate disability that keeps them from working.
