I bet most Americans don't know about the The Unborn Victims of Violence Act of 2004. that recognizes an embryo or fetus in utero as a legal victim?

was a federal act put in place back in 2004. which can be used to charge those who do harm to a pregnant women that results in the death of her child as a federal crime. however it does not directly touch on the subject of abortion it does cover many other outcomes.

You realise that it simply assumes that the fetus is desired by the woman, which is a reasonable default position, 85% of abortions being before anything shows.

If I'm unsure if I want to keep my car, that doesn't mean some get can come and damage it without consequence.

I feel like the law shouldn’t be harder on people just because they aren’t the mother of the child. I don’t get why she can decide to end that life but no one else can.

from what I understand the "The Unborn Victims of Violence Act" was meant as a stepping stone to consider making abortion legal or illegal down the road. while also looking into ways to regulate it so it wasn't used as a common place birth control method. considering more then half of abortions are likely from girls who engage in hookup culture and/or low income areas.

I feel that ending a fetus’s life is wrong for everyone, except in an emergency that would endanger the mother.
