+1 yThis is what they sound like. You don’t want to sound like casual American.
POV: The World
“Hurting people’s feelings is not okay, even if they take perversion to the most of extreme levels. Not only do we support the creation of a new society where everyone slowly becomes a Faggot F*ck which eventually leads to the Human Mass Extinction only due to the fact that these people wish to “be themselves”. We now also will be officially removing all organic edibles from your local stores which exclusively originate from animals and instead you can now deapthroat 15 whole kilograms of jizz. That’s right, f*cking gay men cum, in your cereal bowls, in your cookie dough, in f*cking everything. But NOOOOO NOOOO NOOOO, we’re gonna go LOWER. Your local Zoo has now passed a new Amendment which allows you to fuck, OH YEAH you heard me, FUCK our very most innocent and soon sexually trafficked animals. That also includes the predatory ones, AND the infants ranging from Zebras to literally snakes. It doesn’t matter if they experience Death By Snu Snu AKA dying while having sex, because it didn't happen if NOBODY cares, we can always just buy some more from the Black Market. They even have dinosaurs now, which are actually just Avian and Reptile hybrids. And yes, you will one day get to fuck them as well. Just fuck everything, literally! Oh but we can’t stop there, we need to go EVEN LOOOWER. Not only do the most horrendous of crimes such as r*pe get ignored by Government Officials, but they will now even be encouraged. Oh yeah baby, animals aren’t enough because we can’t tell that they too have souls and emotions, so a fellow Human being is your best option if you’re looking to corrupt someone who somehow already isn’t. Follow us on our Twitter. com and we look forward to normalizing other utterly blasphemous things”. The End. That’s what all of you sound like, actually. Thank you for listening if you’ve made it this far, and I hope you all reconsider you’re despicable ways

Anonymous(36-45)+1 yYour pronunciation and accent can be more American-like if you learn the specific points to focus on what it means to be an American:
1) We're the best country in the world - this is reflect in how you pronounce words. Make sure every word has one stressed syllable: such as, A-MER-ican. The syllables that are not stressed are pronounced as if you were getting punched in the gut by our superior military 2) We're blended - connect your words in a way that transforms the whole word. Example, the letter "T" between two vowels becomes a "D". We blend and link sounds together, just like our people are blended. The words "social life" sound like "socialife" (assimilation is huge in our language) 3) We're unique - the letter R doesn't sound like any other language. Think like a pirate and go 'eeerrrr'. Don't roll the R. 4) We're loud and proud -- raise your voice, be happy as hell, and use American phrases like "That's awesome!" and "What's Up?" 5) We're Creative - make up your own words by turning nouns into verbs, for example: "I'm going to Johnny Depp you" 6) Make sure you don't copy the British on ANYTHING -- hugely important. It's "soccer" not "football." It's "apratment" not "flat" (oh for God's sake do not sound like the British). I hope this helps.00 Reply

+1 yAs someone who has a more American-sounding accent despite never living in America (still not fully though, I'm from South Asia so it has an Indo-American vibe) the reason why I speak like this is simply because of my higher exposure to American accent since I was young. Spending too much time on the internet watching American YouTubers and talking to American gamers on phone call did the trick for me, lmao.

+1 yWatch American TV and movies, LOTS of them from ALL AROUND America.
America is so big that there is no such thing as a single American accent. There's the New England accent, the Downstate New York accent (which even within itself is as diverse as the London accents to the point where a native can pin down the very street you grew up on by your accent), the Midwestern accent, the Southern accent (which is also quite diverse within itself), the Pacific Northwest accent, the Northern California accent, the Southern California accent, the Northern Plain accent..
You get the picture.
What most non-Americans hear is what I call the "Newsman" accent. This is a learned style of speaking that is deliberately designed not to be easily recognized as coming from any specific region of the country. For that, any good acting or voice coach is the person to see... or just watch a lot of American TV and movies, especially those where British (or other foreign) actors play Americans.11 Reply- +1 y
Prior to call centra going to India, many were in Nebraska and Iowa, where people were considered to have neutral accents. With mass communication and a mobile population, regional accents are definitely softening.
1.7K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I'd find someone on youtube who has a known genuine American accent of the type you want (there's many different American accents, you know).. then watch 100 of their videos and try pronouncing everything the way they do over and over again. Eventually you will do it without having to think about it. The problem for you is there's going to be obscure words you never heard pronounced before and you'll have no clue how they should sound because everything doesn't follow rules you can find in a book.

+1 yFirst of all, there is no single American accent. There are different dialects and accents in different parts of the country.
If you want to try to speak like an American news reporter, watch American news channels like CNN, MSNBC and FOX, and practice saying things the same way that yhe on-air people do.
10 Reply Actors work with speech coaches to learn accents for movies. Find a good coach and then do a lot of practice. You'll find it easier to practice with Americans who already have the accent you prefer than foreigners, though there are many American accents, so make sure you choose the one you want.

+1 yThe US actually has several accents. They tend to not be as strongly pronounced (no pun intended) as those in, say, the UK, but there ARE noticeable differences. If you're looking for the central Midwestern one you hear in movies and TV (which would be a good choice; it's slow and clear, and pretty much any English speaker will be able to understand you), then I'd think the best way would be to watch and listen to a lot of movies and TV, and imitate what you hear.

I understand the appeal of speaking with an American accent. Perhaps, speaking clearly and enunciating the words correctly could be a good start.
00 ReplyThere isn't just one American accent. It's a big place with many different accents. There are probably at least 30 major English accents in the USA, and a lot more minor ones.

I once met a funny guy. He talk like a radio host. They didn’t have to growing up and he didn’t want to have an accent. So he listened to the radio and mimicking the way the host speaks…it’s really funny to hear him speak in person like someone from the radio.
You usaully need to be born somehwere or to have lived in that area for a sustained period of time in order to pick up an native "accent".
