Why are inner city schools so behind?

It’s a global thing not specific to a single country.
in general you shove a school in an inner city location and it’s free (avoiding Public and private lol).
those who are very low income tend to have not done as well at school, their kids then get into the same cycle.
It is very hard breaking out of that cycle.
Inner city schools are also usually maxed out with class sizes, have far more disruptive kids, more vandalism, truancy, more fighting and violence. None of this is really ideal for a learning environment.
Then you have the home environment, poor accommodation, usually rented and in poor condition.
not all have a working PC or similar, or internet.
At the start of lock down in the UK, the idea was to have online lessons, however most poor kids did not have a Pc or laptop or table, did not have internet.
To make changes there needs to be a change to the cycle, to enable those less well off to get out of the hole they are in.
if the parents aren't emphasizing education at home then the school environment will be fucked no matter what any decent teacher will avoid that environment, this feeding the cycle of failure. All the money in the world pumped into schools can't fix things if mom AND dad are not requiring that the homework gets turned in on time. So now we lower the standards to accommodate this where needed which will further guarantee failure

It's a cultural problem. Their parents don't teach them how to behave responsibly or promote education in their homes. When their kids act up at school, the parents don't discipline them at home. Their culture does not value education. As a result, their schools are filled with chaos. Kids do not succeed in school, if their parents don't hold their children's feet to the fire. It's as simple as that... As a result those schools do not perform well and become hostile environments. People with an education, don't want to spend their days in shitty schools trying to teach kids that do not want to learn. So the least educated, least effective teachers end up riding it out as baby sitters in the bad schools to grind out a paycheck. The more talented teachers end up at the good schools where the majority of kids still want to learn, but they still have to deal with a handful of knuckle heads with crackhead parents that do not value education every single year.
And yet, what I still don’t understand is why black inner city people insist it discrimination that’s keeping them less advanced
“Rich kid”, there’s your answer. I went to Westerville and Pickerington myself. Also rich kid schools at the time. But Ohio has diversified a LOT since I left.
Why can’t Democrats do anything about it? Because they perpetuate their own impoverished constituents and use their stories to justify raising taxes on the rich.
right on.
If you have the time, just watch Lebron's I Promise Documentary. It kind of shows the problems Lebron's staff had in building a successful school and provides a blueprint for how to address issues for now just inner city schools, but ones in rural communities as well.
https://www.youtube.com/embed/yuzDfEEzhfoIt is a combination of poor management, powerful teachers unions and most of all, in most inner cities there are large numbers of single parent households and the parents either don't care or they don't have an education themselves and put no value on it.
My thoughts are that the teachers either don’t have the proper tools to teach or the backings from the parents. Or they just don’t care.
As for or politicians. All but a few even know or care about the average or inner city schools because they went to high priced private schools.
Watch George Carlin talking about the US education system and you'll see why.
Democrats in control of American Educational System...
it was the teacher's unions, they fire good teachers to keep the bad ones who are in the union
get rid of the unions first and then you can fix it
That not true my school was one of the top schools in New York and I went to school in the inner city
Look at the demographics and ask the question to yourself again.
God. I love black people
The kids and parents in those low income communities typically don't prioritize education.
All states should allow vouchers to families who actually want their kids to get a good education.
The problem is not the schools. No school can make up for lack of good parenting.
Poor funding, different cultural environment and they usually get the bottom of the barrel teachers
Because racist white liberals don’t want to fund black communities.
Good students make good schools.
@exitseven Smart parents breed smart students and smart students tend to be good students.
