There was a person that I thought was a friend then he believed everything everyone was saying about me which is not true and then he wished death on my family. Years later we met again through someone at an event. Not a blind date or anything. I pretended like I didn't know him and now I'm the bad guy. How am I wrong

You are not wrong, he is mentally unstable, it sounds like both back then and still now. They're just going to treat you like you're the bad guy that way they don't have to admit that they have a problem. You just have to brush it off and stay away from those unstable people
