Why does the GOP reject the healthcare bill for veterans?

Every bill includes all sorts of things in it. These bills are not black & white. Democrats could be trying to sneak in something problematic or unnecessary into it. The major reason is not totally clear yet. Here is some info for now:

Like most bills, it doesn't strictly do what the title implies. The title issue even doesn't actually do anything other than instruct the VA secretary to carry out a pilot program with 4 VISN networks. An easy criticism just from that alone is that the pilot program isn't actually necessary and only wastes valuable time and money when they could just immediately implement it in full.

The next section uses a lot of fluffy language, but it sounds like this is being set up as a Trojan horse to eventually get direct government control over the healthcare system as a whole. The bill calls for direct government oversight of any healthcare provider that participates in the program, and that's definitely not something popular with Republicans.

In regards to specialty care, the bill adds at least one needless layer of government bureaucracy in order for veterans to get approval on an individual basis. That alone pretty much negates the value of the bill, as one of the major criticisms of the VA healthcare system itself is how time-consuming it is just to get even simple things done. All of this also includes mental health, and knowing how the US approaches mental health, this means that ultimately the only "acceptable" mental health treatment is going to be "pump them full of drugs," which is not only a patchwork solution that doesn't work beyond what's similar to a placebo effect, it's basically a kickback relationship between big pharma and the federal government.

Now the officials who oppose this bill may have completely different reasons for doing so, but all of the above is what I found just by looking it up myself.

You’ll have to ask them. If you’ve never read a bill that’s gone to vote, you must. I highly recommend you read at least one draft that doesn’t go to vote as well. The title means almost nothing. Every special interest on the hill will try to jam things into a bill that gets money for themselves or their interests, and they don’t have to have anything to do with the issue in the name. It’s effing ridiculous. I could give you some examples, but you’d probably never believe me. So, read the bill. Or find a news source you trust to read them and report on them honestly. Or contact your reps and senators to find out what’s in the bill. But don’t jump to conclusions based on little to no information.

Because those fuckers chose to kill for pay and the pension package was fair at the time. They think they deserve more, they can join the new war effort for pay like anyone else.

Being a soldier is just a job like any other. All that parade and respect nonsense was just to give the lower classes who make up it's numbers feel they were fighting for more than just a pay check. They were the fools for falling for the advertising.

If I had to hazard a guess it was because the Democrats try to sneak something unrelated or worthy of rejecting into it like they typically do when there’s some thing that is almost a guaranteed GOP vote.

majority of bills that get voted on by congress are full of unrelated bloat that has almost nothing to do with the topic. so both sides can line their own pockets and the pockets of investors who helped get them into office.

They either didn't think it would be effective or they're just committed to shooting themselves in the foot a lot. Veteran related bills lately haven't been a partisan issue at all, votes were unanimous with this being an exception
