Would you install an alarm system in your home?

We have three layers of alarms that must be on from a certain hour to another, and the system is linked to a private security company, so they call us if the system is not on. Since we live in a fairly isolated area, we also have cameras and three patrol rounds per night - the patrol car comes up, drives around the property, checks the gate and leaves.

Not sure about the laws in Turkmenistan but in the United States, we enjoy the right to own almost any kind of gun we like. We take great pleasure in killing anyone who breaks into our home. It's a source of great pride here to have a few dead bodies in your living room when the police arrive. Sometimes, we pose for a picture over the dead perpetrators who took the asphalt temperature challenge. We enjoy videos watching homeowners shoot a-holes who break in. So , an alarm system would take away the joys of defending our homes with guns and killing the mo fo who break in.

Wow, that is a substantial amout of security. Do you feel safer with all of that in place?

I do feel safe, although sometimes it can be an hassle to remember the procedures, especially when I want to take a walk in the garden at night and get called by the operator.
My wife often forgets to turn off the perimetral alarm when she drives in and out, so she often sets it off.

Maybe, it's good to be safe, even if your neighborhood is already "safe enough". Sometimes it can definitely be unnecessary and over the top though so I guess it just depends on your situation and how comfortable you feel.

If needed, yes. But right now, no need. I have one neighbor on a back ass part of my state. My dogs are plenty an alarm for me.

I live in a flat apartment at 4th floor, in a quiet neighbourhood of a little city of northern Italy, far from big criminal groups or big crimes. Here usually thieves don’t go into flat apartments, they go robbing into factories, stations and the few detached houses that are here. They have alarms and cctv cameras, I don’t have anything of them, I only lock well my home door and be sure to not leave the key inserted.

I don't waste my money on all that, I don't have enough wealth to be robbed by the security companies bill every month. I could have a burglary quite often and get away cheaper than that. I have an alarm system in the house but I will have to call the cops if it goes off. I rather make it hard to get in unnoticed. So passive protection. If I invest the security firm cost each month, I would soon be living in a fortress.

Is there a lot of crime in your area? I understand why you are so concerned with security if that is the case.

No, but we live in an isolated area, and between me being a local politician, and both me and my wife belonging to industrial families of a certain weight, we do risk being targeted. Some three years ago criminals held a local entrepeneur's wife and children hostages in their own home, and that's when we decided to not run any risk.

If I someday, somehow „smarthomed“ my house, then maybe I would add that function, too. But it’s really not needed here. I live in a major city and hear police sirens maybe two or three times a year.

Maybe.. But that is more because it interests me as a hobby rather than any actual fears that someone will break into my home. It is great to live without being afraid that the world is against you.

If you don't have either a panic room or weapons to defend yourself alarm systems are pretty much pointless aside from summoning a clean up crew.

My security system is Glock and Browning. They take care of anything and everything that's in the wrong place in the wrong time. They're there before the police can get there. And they're more accurate in isolated areas.

The guards don't stay on my property though, it's a security firm that makes rounds for several clients I guess. My father had actual guards and a checkpoint on his property.
