No alarm but my door is armored
And the floors squeak so much that I would hear if someone walked in during the night
Of course if I’m not home there’s not much safety
But also no valuables worth taking10 Reply

4 moI don’t think we even lock the doors when we leave, lmfao. We’ll be fine. I don’t live in fear of crime happening to me

4 moNo lol we don't ever even lock the doors when we leave. I live in a place around people that have no reason to take from me. The things I really have to offer are within me and if asked I'd give without wanting anytbing in return. I like to think they would do the same for me. People see me as poor not having much but I feel like I have more happiness and wealth with my life then anyone judging me has. I never found happiness in outcomes. i found happiness in doing. An alarm system might warn you but to really feel safe you have to trust those around you. That's almost impossible in today's world i know cause how I live. That being said... an alarm system is probably the next best thing. Lol thanks for listening to the rant I need to go to sleep!

No problem. It was an interesting rant. Sleep well!
412 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. We don't even lock the doors here. If you live somewhere you need an alarm, you should probably just move.
And no, they're probably not effective. Thieves will try to reach your car keys if they're near the door, but they can also remotely clone them, and more opportunistic thieves will steal garden tools and furniture that's left out - but noboby is breaking into houses any more. Professional thieves breaking into commercial premises, will also have the equipment to defeat alarm systems - stuff like wifi jammers etc.10 Reply- 492 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
4 moNO alarm system. The sole problem with such systems is the cost for installation and having some sort of monthly monitoring fee. Neither of those are cheap.
And what's the point of having the monitoring system go off when you are not at home. Police can never get to a burglary in time. Very low on their priority list.
If you have a monitoring system so you can see who is around your house at no cost to you but the installation of the system, that could be helpful. Means you don't have to answer the door unless you know who's there. And it could mimic that you're at home when you aren't.
But the monthly charge systems?: You gotta have bucks for them.10 Reply - 1.8K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
4 moI have one, I’ve set it off more than any burglars or the like, but I will say there’s a real comfort in having it and knowing it’s so efficient and effective. It’s also a fire detection system, and one day my roommate accidentally set it off while cooking (as one does) and I missed the security call from the alarm company. With no callbacks telling them everything was fine and the smoke detectors going off, they sent out the call to the fire department. In the time it took me to realize what happened and call them back to tell them we’re fine, the fire department showed up, got told by my roommate that everything was fine, and they left around the same time I hung up the phone. A mild inconvenience all around, but it’s reassuring to know help will come quick when we need it and can’t answer the phone.
10 Reply 350 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I bought a couple of very inexpensive surveillance cameras on Amazon. I made the mistake of putting them in my kitchen window with a view of my door from the outside. I could be anywhere in the world and my phone would blow up constantly from notifications of cats, dogs, bugs and mostly pigeons.
I now have the cameras pointing at the door from the inside. I've never gotten a notification cuz nobody has ever broken in. If someone did break in, I would get an instant notification of my phone, an alarm would go off, and a 30 second video would be recorded. Having a subscription to a cloud service that stores videos is optional. But I find that rather ridiculous. The video function is activated by motion, so a cheap memory card would record about 10,000 years of break-ins.10 Reply- 2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
4 moPain in the ass with maintenance / sensors on every potential entry point, false alarms (neighbors love that), monitoring fees, remembering to set it, disarming it when you enter. A safe room with a weapons cache and hardened communications is a better solution. Trigger a CO2 fire suppression system to displace all the oxygen in the house temporarily. Asphyxiate the intruders. No residue to clean up.
10 Reply 11K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Pro, they can deter some people.
Cons, criminals can look up what securities systems you have and how to shut em off, they don't stop the actual crime, they're expensive etc.
I have 2 guard dogs, and live with 3 people that have ptsd and access to firearms. I don't need an alarm, I need a few hours and a shovel to dispose of the intruder.

4 moNo active alarm works unless it's obnoxiously loud or supernova bright. Cars, houses, whatever. We're desensitized to it.
Cons: Everything
Pros: None
What works? PLANNING for prevention cuz they're GONNA get in if they're motivated.
Sensor lights & cameras are best with a deadbolt. Those WORK.
NO YOU DONT NEED A GUN!!
10 Reply I worked in the alarm industry, from my experience, I find the stickers from the alarm company are more of a deterrent, a alarm system with an audible device, deters thieves as they enter, but now with the availability of cameras and motion on cameras, it is a more viable way of operating to keep thieves at large or dispatch police. I myself have an alarm system that goes to my phone.

u 4 moNope. Honestly I don’t really care if someone breaks in to steal things, I don’t have a lot thats worth stealing. As long as they don’t harm me or my kids. I have an axe handle under my bed for intruders.

4 moI don't have one and I don't know anyone who does. During nice weather I leave my doors open at night. The back door to my house hasn't even been closed for a few months. Sometimes I'll leave the front doors open when I go somewhere.

4 moMy alarm system is my two dog buddies.
It's extremely reliable - my front door rarely is closed or even locked :D
Electronic systems are useless - unless they are linked to an AI controlled machine gun.

4 moIf I was a burglar, I would choose a house with no alarm if the potential gain was equal to the house with an alarm. It's good to be the hard target, as opposed to the easy one.
10 Reply1.5K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I prefer good watchdogs. They hear everything and let me know if someone is around before they even get near the house. Dogs and guns work great.

Anonymous(45 Plus)4 moNot even cameras matter if your city is trying to keep crime numbers down by not making a big deal of crime caught on security cameras.
